One Week, What's The Worst That Could Happen... Right?

~~~~
Say… what is your greatest joy to do in this world?
Read?
Sleep?
Eat?
The list goes on but for me it would be…
Not to die.
Hey! What's the one thing you don't want a malnutritioned person to do so that they don't lose more weight?
If you said running, ding, ding, ding! You're correct!
I must be going delusional to do a game show and talk with myself in my head…
"Hah… Hah…"
I could feel my sweat stick onto my clothes as I ran, occasionally cool air would unstick them before they stuck back.
The training was like being in a haze and searching for the exit.
My mind drifted once again while the physical aspect of the training was still ongoing.
It's been seven days since I had my hands broken by the pajama guy.
And I am utterly confused on one aspect. My hands and ribs healed back in three days. Was it the pills or was it because of this supernatural body that accomplished this feat.
Who knows, maybe it's both.
There was one thing I was supremely grateful for that these kidnappers provided.
It was that they had good food.
I remember after the first day of training I ate until I couldn't and the day after that I threw up the parts my body couldn't digest fast enough.
Those were good times.
Another thing that was good was that I became skinny!
I leveled up from skin and bones to skinny…
I guess you could say that rather than training this was more of a break for me.
I don't know if I have fully accepted many things that happened so far but time doesn't wait and I can sob in my sorrows later in life.
"Hah… Hah…"
I became a sweating mess, something that I was already used to by now.
"The physical part of today's lesson is done. Go to the theoretical part now."
"Thank god."
"Phew it's finally over…"
I heard the complaints of the other children countless times now.
I looked at our instructor, a soldier wearing a full black outfit most likely made for infiltration purposes.
He had been making everyone do different tasks to highlight and develop their unique strengths.
I'm sure that everyone here had been trained in some way or another because while they complained their efficiency was scary.
So that begs the question, why am I different?
I was an orphan dying in some backwater alleyway before I woke up here. I have nothing noteworthy except for this body but… who cares. I got another chance at life that almost ended terribly due to my poor decisions but I'm going to change that.
I worked harder than the others and thanks to my body I improved the fastest. However I was still a bit weaker than the weakest of them.
If they could run for an hour I would only be able to run for forty minutes. I was around only sixty-seven percent from the weakest. That's not even including the prodigies who I'm still far behind.
"Huu…" I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself.
"Haaa~ Good morning… or is it night?" A woman with dark circles under her eyes asked.
Our 'professor' is one of the scientists working here. She's… eccentric to say the least.
To give you an example, she once forgot that she was supposed to teach us and tried to make me into her test subject… that day was the day I knew what kind of field of research she was doing.
"Ah, anyway today I'll be teaching you guys how to create biological weapons…"
To be honest I would much rather be in the physical class rather than this because of the sheer randomness of what the class would be.
Of course thanks to my body I was able to memorize the whole class's content by only focusing on the class, but as a precaution I went over it once.
But biological weapons, huh…
I don't have the materials… or do I?
I could try to steal people's research and successful (or failed) experiments and use them… That's just suicide so thats a big no.
Hah…
Class ended like always and I had everything memorized but to make sure of it I'll double check back at the dorms.
I looked around, I wondered who I would have to kill tomorrow.
At this point I no longer had any remorse for killing.
I had no time.
I looked over my notes over the past seven days for the nth time.
From the physical and theoretical.
I was stressing… really bad.
Rather than wallowing in self pity I was more concerned of who my opponent was tomorrow.
I watched the kids train in their own unique ways that helped them grow even more. Poison, sword, hand-to-hand, guns, the list goes on.
I'm hoping for a hand-to-hand combatant or a gun combatant because I didn't see a gun when I first fought and someone having no weapon is better for me.
"Hah… Too much stress isn't good for me… I'll worry about it tomorrow when the fight is actually here."
In the mi
"Hm~ Hm~"
Stab!
Inside one of the countless dorms of the project was a child with a flushed expression on their face.
With an androgynous face it was unknown if they were a man or a woman.
Stab!
The fluff from the soft pillow went flying in the air even more so than before.
"Hm~ Hm~"
An unknown tune was sung by the child.
Rather than a tune, it would be more adequate to call it a repetition of sounds rather than a 'tune'.
"Haha!"
"I wonder… who'll be my opponent tomorrow?"
A large unnatural smile was formed on their face.
"Hahaha!! I'm soo excited for tomorrow… Wait for me, okay?"
I'm here again…
The freezing cold, the white forest and… the boiling of my skin…
The pain… is still bad. But unlike before I welcomed this pain.
It was like my mind was preparing me for the fight. I knew this was a dream but I didn't wake myself up (not that I could).
Something was different this time though.
I heard and saw large wolves make their way over to me. Inside the treeline
The 'two-cycle' as I called it, stopped. Rather than fully stopping another 'part' of the cycle came into play.
They ate and tore my body limb by limb.
It hurts…
Unlike when I freeze or boil when my pain receptors eventually overload causing me to not feel any more pain, these bastards ripped my skin and bones off…
I could feel my skin being taken away, blood pouring out of every part of my body, my bones exposed and eaten by the gluttonous wolves.
When the next part played out my body had fully grown back and started to freeze in the harsh atmosphere.
However I endured, like the first time, I endured everything.
The three cycles played out until I couldn't keep track.
Compared to my training in the past week, this truly felt like a neverending fog that will lead to nowhere.
"Ha…" A short sigh came from my vocal cords.
I opened my eyes to see the hypnotizing and almost dreamworthy white ceiling again.
It just made me wonder how weapons even shot down from there.
I quickly got a good grasp of my surroundings.
Only a couple of meters away from me was my opponent.
Good… Thank god it's an easy one…
While physical training happened I never saw her (or him?) train as well as the others. Of course I was still far behind in terms of physical capabilities but this was still some leeway.
I got up and walked over to her…
Wearing an oversized black sweater with a red ribbon along with a striped skirt, her whole attire looked like something that came out of a Japanese school with their dress code.
I stood a good five feet away from her.
I waited and watched.
I could have attacked her while she was sleeping… but the question, was she actually?
Truly, I refused to believe that highly trained kids, especially the small monsters I saw, would have parents negligent enough to not teach them to wake up faster.
A minute passed and I even ignored the intercom informing us about the weapons dropping.
I just watched. I already knew she was awake but if I give my back to her I know she'll take it…
I just stared at her.
Unblinking, unwavering.
In the back of my mind I knew that I wouldn't get another chance like this where she's so vulnerable…
She was 'sleeping' on her stomach and her head facing towards me. So in the instant I heard the familiar ting! I went for a punch at herhead.
Crack!
The hard marble had an indent in the shape of a fist. The hole itself wasn't big, only around a centimeter in depth but I paid no mind to it.
With a quick roll the androgynous child had avoided the attack.
"Huuu…" I took a deep breath. I was going to need it.
I faced her, I didn't even flinch at the sight of the unnatural smile that fitted a bit too well with her red eyes.
"Hey~ Are you really a kid?"
What kind of question was that?
"Well, are you a kid?" I questioned back. She didn't seem like one with that psychopathic smile.
In response all I got was an even larger smile than before.
While I kept her in my field of view I used my peripheral vision to confirm some things. I was correct about the guns, there were none. I don't know about the next fights but for now if I get a gun specialist they'll be a sitting duck.
We were once again in a standoff.
Woosh!
I rushed at her.
I threw a couple of punches but her oversized sweater made it hard to know where her vitals were located. Constantly shifting her already small frame inside the sweater made it impossible for the current me to hit her at all.
While I knew that staying calm was key in this fight, I couldn't help but feel a bit of anger and disappointment in myself that a little girl was dodging my punches like they were nothing.
Bang!
Another indent on the floor.
By now my knuckles hurt a lot, the pain wasn't going to stop me but breaking my hands certainly will.
We passed by dozens of weapons in this cat and mouse game but she didn't even give them a glance.
Is she playing with me? Or is she looking for something specific…
The more I use my stamina the worse it gets for me…
Unlike the other kids my stamina was even lower than even the girls so I had to do my best to conserve it.
"Hu… Hu…" I felt a miniscule amount of sweat and fatigue come over me.
"Hm…?" Right next to me was a metal bat, the type you would see on a baseball match.
Tap!
Tap!
Tap!
The light steps of the girl echoed in the room.
So she wasn't playing with me…
I answered myself. I gave chase and dashed towards her with the bat in hand.
Along the way I swung it to feel its weight and it was light… a good sign. I kept a steady pace as I weaved past the countless weapons sprawled across the floor.
I spotted something… something that I could use.
I stared at the girl's movements as she was heading for a weapon. Not even a minute later she stopped.
From jogging pace, I almost skipped the space between us as I swung the bat at her head.
Ting!
The sound of metal colliding.
I stared at her for a split second before I went a couple of paces back.
"You're so ruthless~ But I won now…" She stated with a venomous stare.
Her atmosphere changed, she went from a viper to Yamata-no-orochi level of threat.
What kind of stupid anime power-up is this?
She held two army knives in her now exposed hands.
My grip on the bat's handle became tighter.
As I realized the threat more-so than before, my adrenaline spiked and my surroundings made me hyper focused.
Any of my previous fatigue seemed to disappear, and my sights narrowed until only the figure left in my vision was the army knife wielding little girl.
I ran and simultaneously swung my bat toward her, using my marginal height advantage and length of my bat to its fullest.
Ting!
"HaHAHA!!"
I felt the vibrations of the collision travel up to my shoulders.
Skkk!!!
The ear wrenching sound of metal sliding filled my overly sensitive ears.
Bang!
As if I were liquid I kicked her body like a whip.
"Cough… HAHAHA!!! God~ This is sooo fun!? BWHAHAHAHA!!!!"
Her eyes and body vibrated as if euphoria filled her very being.
"You really aren't a child… You should be playing with other children right now…" I replied absentmindedly forgetting that I also was just a child.
My hips felt a bit numb…
No doubt that after this battle I would feel quite the pain…
"HAHAHA!!! COME! COME AT ME!?!"
She yelled with a deranged voice.
"HAAA!!!"
Shouting gave me an inexplicable energy that I used to charge at the tiny girl with all my might.
Ting!
Ting!
Bang!
I dodged and swung.
I bled and kicked.
I tried everything in my power to end this fight…
Countless exchanges were met and I was left bruised and slashed in multiple places. From my arms and even my cheeks, I bleed in small but considerable amounts of blood.
She wasn't much better, one of her arms was broken and she had bruises everywhere like I did.
I stared the girl down.
"HAHAHA!!! You're the most fun I've ever had!!! Don't die okay?"
"Hah… Hah…"
The fatigue is catching up to me, I need to end this soon…
I held the bat in my only usable arm, my right and thankfully my dominant.
I walked towards her, I didn't have the energy to run anymore.
I wondered only one thing at this point.
Why didn't she just run?
The room was certainly big enough to where I would bleed out and die before I could even touch her…
But she didn't.
She did the same and walked to me also.
"Hah~ You shouldn't die… But I'm asking too much aren't I?" She made a pose where she seemed more vulnerable and cute but I wasn't going to fall for that.
"Why? Why aren't you running and getting a guaranteed victory?"
It was dumb of me, I shouldn't give my weakness and certainly not the way to win so easily but I did… out of pure curiosity I did.
"Why?" With a dumbfounded expression she continued, "Because it's not fun, I would rather die here than get a dumb victory."
My eyes widened a bit.
Are these the legendary 'battle junkies' I heard so much about in novels?
With a small smile I replied, "I see…"
"Then let's end this." I loudly proclaimed.
Giving one final menacing smirk she waited.
I rushed and so did she.
"HAAAAA!!!"
"HAAAAA!!!"
Our voices overlapped and resonated with one another.
Bang!
Skkk!
"..."
My heavy breathing awoke me from my half-sleep state.
"I guess I lost huh?"
"I guess you're right…"
While she was running towards the army knives I snuck an awl and I stabbed her with it.
She managed to cut deeply at my ribs but nothing compared to death.
She was on the floor, laying like she was resting in a coffin.
"Hahaha…"
I felt the weakness in her voice.
"I have a wish… wanna listen to it?"
She stared into my eyes.
"Hah… I have time to kill…"
"I… want you to kill the people who worked on this experiment…" Her manic smile resurfaced.
"...I was already planning on that-"
"-And also fight strong people!" She cut me off.
"Isn't that more than one wish?" I quietly said.
"Who cares…"
I saw her eyes get duller, but before she died I had to ask…
"Are you a guy or a girl?" I muttered to myself.
"Hm?"
I saw her hands point at my ear.
I leaned my ear towards her.
Quieter even than a feather dropping to the floor she said, "I'm a guy."
With a smile he died.
I stayed shockshelled for a few seconds.
"Puhahaha!!!"
My ribs and body hurt but so what?
I sat next to his body and said, "That's one hell of a way to end the day."
The last thing I remember was the white gas ventilating into the room.
My vision blurred and I slept to what felt like my first friend in this world.
*
*
She couldn't remember the last time the blue sky was in her eyes.
Her mind and emotions were numb.
Inside she felt hollow with only two goals in mind.
Either die or live to see the large blue sky with her eyes.
She was fine with either but if she could - she wanted to see the bright blue sky for a final time.
The day was like any other, countless experiments were done on her, perhaps the experiments done on her reached the third digits but today was different.
Today she was walked out by the person who caused the most harm.
Outside of the room she was too familiar with, the needles, the injections, and the heavy scent of a hospital.
She didn't even lash out. She was too tired to try.
A window had caught her eye, a fight between a skinny black haired boy and a Japanese uniform girl played out.
The battle was nearing its end when she came across the window. In a couple of seconds the battle was over.
White gas filled the room and made the black haired boy pass out.
Afterward she walked silently, not turning her head again.
This was the first interaction between the future leader of the Hinagiku and Tanpopo's Termite.
A (slightly) abnormal but uneventful start to their relationship.
A/N: How was the fight? I feel like it wasn't that great but tell me. Also fun fact, did you know that this FF was gonna be like 'I Will Live A Better Life!' and those types of FFs? The idea changed so much that it turned into this, LOL. Havn't been updating to much But I'm going to try to change that in the future also I said that this chapter was going to be out like... two days ago? Sorry about that!
