2 I Got You, I Won't Let You Go

'I'm finally a mother!' She firmly held her baby in her hands. 'My sweet sweet baby. Oh no! I have to place my hand under her neck so she would be comfortable.' She grinned like a little kid while watching her baby.

Tear droplets decorated the corner of her eyes as they shined brightly like pearls. She stared at everyone in the room, the midwives and the nurses were smiling, looking at her pampering the baby.

'Here is a little girl that would shape my life more than I could possibly hope to shape hers', She thought to herself as she brought the baby closer to her face. She gently rubbed her cheeks against the baby's head.

She instantly stopped when she saw the baby moving as if someone was disturbing her in her sleep. So, she simply held the baby.

The midwives and nurses were still just standing there with a smile. Amber was confused at first and realised that her hand was getting sore. She slowly tried to move, only to let out a soft groan. "Can you hold my baby? It is hard for me to hold her with one hand as my other hand is pricked with IV." She asked while offering the baby to the midwives.

The midwives, however, didn't move or speak. They just stood frozen and resembled man-made dolls. Their smile turned creepy with their lips stretched all the way back to their jaws. During this chaos of thoughts, Amber heard the voice of a man from outside the door.

"Where is my baby!?"

Fear took over Amber, her mouth opened in O shape while her eyes widened. She quickly wanted to get down to sneak away with her baby.

But as she got ready to do so, her eyes fell on the baby. What met her eyes, was a horrifying sight. The baby had no eyeballs. No skin on top, just muscles and blood. She could see the little heart pumping fast. There were no teeth or lips but the baby was giggling.

"AHHHHH, my baby!" Amber woke up from the nightmare. "Wh-where is my baby? Is she fine?" Amber asked worriedly. She scanned the room. It was empty, there were no nurses nor the baby. The crib that the baby was supposed to be laid in, was empty.

"Where is my baby?" She yelled but instantly held her stomach. The stitches gave her a lot of pain as if 20 needles pierced her suddenly. She leaned back, taking deep breaths to reduce her pain.

In the meantime, the nurse who was outside heard her screams and rushed inside to check up on Amber. "Ma'am, please restrain yourself from moving. It will be bad for you if the stitches reopened." The nurse fearfully said, seeing Amber tremble in pain.

"Let me inject you with some sedatives, the pain will ease up." The nurse reached out to the already bought sedatives wrapped in a paper bag at the side of her bed.

Amber didn't want to be injected with sedatives. She wanted to see her baby first, so she controlled her trembling by calming herself and deep breathing. "It's okay, I don't need the sedatives, but nurse, where is my baby? Is she healthy? There are no complications regarding her health, right?" She asked the nurse.

The nurse stopped in her way of finding the sedatives from the cover, she doesn't know what to tell Amber. In any case, she didn't want to be the one to tell her the news and get burnt by a mother's wrath.

"Ah! Yes, the doctor will come and tell you about her health. There is nothing to worry about. Oh, wait! Let me go bring some food for you to eat, you need your strength." After saying that, the nurse turned away from her bed and headed to the door to escape from the situation.

But she was suddenly stopped by Amber's tight grip out of nowhere and her heart jumped. She hesitatingly turned her face slowly around.

"I don't need food either. But nurse, my baby might be hungry right? She needs me, she must be crying with hunger. Let me feed her, let me see her. She must be beautiful like her mother, yes? Tell me more about my baby." It was her first time having a baby, she cannot stop her excitement, she waited nine long months patiently to see her baby's beautiful smiling face.

She felt needed by the baby, she wanted to hold her and say, "I got you, I won't let you go."

If the stitches aren't bothering her, she would have gone to the baby ward right after she gained consciousness.

The nurse did not know what to say. She gulped nervously and words did not come out of her mouth for a couple of minutes. "Uh- y-yes ma'am, why don't you go back to sleep? W-we will take care of the baby. Don't be bothered, okay? In your condition, you are supposed to sleep." The nurse said while she stuttered badly. She said everything without even making an eye contact with Amber all the while.

It did not make any sense to Amber, it's been half a day since the surgery, and she was awake now. Won't they show her baby already? Why is the nurse so tensed and nervous?

"But it doesn't make sense, I want to see my baby right now. I cannot just sit here. Please try to understand." Amber suddenly got irritated with all the stress. Why does she need to ask so many times to see her own baby?

A thought suddenly struck Amber. She lowered her gaze thinking about the nightmare. Why did a nightmare occur just now? And that too, a nightmare of her baby being shown dead.

She looked up to the nurse, darkness taking over her thoughts. The nurse seemed to wipe the sweat off. Her hands seemed to shiver. Amber knew the nurse was hiding something and the darkness grew more inside of Amber.

Amber's hand tightened up around the nurse's wrist. "Nurse! WHERE IS MY BABY?" She could not hold in her feelings anymore, she wanted to clear the doubt that was clouding her world inside her head.

"M-ma'am, p-p-please! P-please calm down, y-your baby…"

The nurse turned towards Amber and held her hands. She took a long pause and silence roared in the room, making it unbearable for Amber. Tears were already falling down her eyes.

Amber knew the words that the nurse is going to say but she hoped those were not the words she would utter.

"Y-your baby did not make it out, unfortunately. She passed away right after coming out." The words finally made it out of the nurse's mouth.

It took a moment for Amber to comprehend what the nurse said, tears rolled off her cheek without a second thought. "Huh? D-d-d-did not what? No! No! NO! I refuse to believe it, you are lying! Where is my baby? Tell me what you guys have done to her! I want to see her." She could not believe what the nurse had said, no, she refused to believe it.

More nurses and a security man came storming into the room as they heard loud voices from the room, which was right beside the nurse's desk.

At first, her cries were pleas, she pleaded everyone to tell her it was a lie. She wanted her baby back, let a miracle take place and return her baby to herself, were her thoughts. Her head spun as her heart ached more than ever.

Her nose and ears turned red as her palms turned cold. Her world collapsed like a house made of cards.

She panicked and gasped, finding it hard to breathe with the cries. Her screams resonated throughout the whole hallway. She pushed back whoever came close to her. She threw the trays, saline bottles and fruits on all of them. She pushed the table down. She didn't even know what she was doing, she was still asking for her baby all the while with tearful eyes.

In the end, the nurses with the help of the security guard pinned her down to the bed and injected her with sedatives. She was still screaming, her screams slowly turned to weak sobs, and she passed out as the drug began to affect her body.

After a while, even while still being dizzy, she slowly opened her eyes to see where she was. Within a moment she remembered everything that happened. Despair took her over as she covered her face with her hand and cried.

She suddenly remembered a crucial thing. "H-how will I console his anger this time?" She suddenly started to quiver in fear with her hands resting on her shoulders in a defensive pose. She quickly took the IV drip out of her hand, held her hand while the blood squirted out.

She got down the bed in pain, taking the support of the walls and sneaked out of the room.
