1 Chapter 1

"I'm so fucking excited!" My best friend, Maya screamed as we walked to school on our first day.

"It's high school, relax," I said as we walked around a puddle.

"I WON'T RELAX! THERE'S SO MUCH TO PREPARE FOR! PROM, BOYS, CHEERLEADING, FOOTBALL BOYS!" She exclaimed.

"The dog poop your about to step on," I mumbled as she stepped on it.

"I hate you," She said making a weird face. "Why aren't you excited? You might get a boyfriend this year!"

"I don't need a man to make me happy. Especially a jock. You know I hate jocks." I said as we walked through the parking lot of Jamie Edwardson High School.

"Jocks are everything though!" She screamed again.

"Shut up," I said as we entered the school. We walked towards our lockers still talking. I put my backpack into my locker and pulled out a few books.

"CLEAR THE HALLS FOR THE BEAVERS!" Someone screamed. All of a sudden, a dozen football players started running down the halls. Everyone in the hall was cheering for some reason. I rolled my eyes and continued putting my books away.

The bell rang and Maya and I started walking to class. We had chemistry first. I sat at my assigned seat and waited for my partner to show up. Maya was with a cute girl and then a guy caught my eye.

Dark brown hair with green eyes that fade the blue. A perfect smile with gorgeous lips. But...

He was wearing a football jacket. Stupid jock.

I looked away and hoped he wouldn't sit with me but of course, he took the seat next to me.

"Settle down!" The teacher screamed. She explained we had to make a carbon eruption.

"Sup, I'm Jake." The boy said to me as I grabbed baking soda. I stayed silent and poured vinegar into the beaker.

"Aren't you going to res-" I cut him off.

"Raina," I said sternly. I continued pouring the things and finished the experiment.

"You could have let me do something," Jake said as I finished.

"What are you going to do? Mix in a football?" I asked sarcastically.

"You know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover." He said rolling his eyes.

"One, yes that's true but always judge a jock. Second, roll your eyes one more time and I'll pluck them out. Got it?" I responded.

"Great, I got a feisty one," He mumbled.

"I heard that," I said turning to him. He stared into my eyes and then grabbed a beaker filled with a red liquid. He spilled it onto my white shirt as I looked away from his eyes.

"WHAT THE FUCK?!" I screamed at him.

"HEY! JAKE, DETENTION!" The teacher screamed. I grabbed my books and walked out of class as Maya followed me.

"You ok?" She asked.

"And you said jocks were finally nice," I said going to my locker. I grabbed my jacket and put it over the stain.

Jake walked past me and struck me a quick wink before walking away. I rolled my eyes and walked with Maya.

*Time Skip To After School*

I grabbed my backpack out of my locker then a familiar face approached me.

"What do you want?" I said fixing my backpack.

"To apologize," Jake replied.

"Detention wasn't enough?" I asked.

"Come on, let me make it up to you. I'll drive you home!" He begged.

"How do I know your not a killer? Or a stalker?" I said with an eyebrow raised.

"Do I look like one?" He asked.

"All jocks look like stalkers!" I said to him.

"What do you have against jocks?" He asked with his eyebrows clenched.

"More than your tiny brain could understand," I said walking. He followed me and stopped me mid-way.

"Tell me," He said holding me back.

"It's in my personal life. Now, Get Your Hands Off Me!" I said sternly.

"Fine," He said letting go of me. I walked out of the school and went straight home. I entered my house and threw my backpack onto the ground.

"How was school?" My older brother, Elijah, asked me.

"Terrible. I ran into a jock and he stained my shirt." I said taking my jacket off.

"Aww, well trust me, high school gets better." His girlfriend, Isabella, responded.

My mom died a few years ago and my dad was sent to a mental health hospital because of his drinking addiction. A few days later, a cop came to me and Elijah, telling us Dad committed suicide. After that, Elijah began to raise me. Yup.

My 18-year-old brother raised 14 year old me for 2 years. Shortly after we moved in here, Elijah started dating this girl, Isabella. She moved in with us about a year ago. She's honestly the sweetest person ever and I'm so happy for her and Elijah. They deserve the world.

Elijah works at a high-class tech company as the vice president. No, we aren't rich but we're happy. Isabella works at a fashion company while I go to school. They both are like angels who came to heal me. I love them more than anything.

"Ok, come eat and then go take a shower," Isabella said handing me a plate of spaghetti.

*2 Hours Later*

I slid my jacket on and left for a walk. I usually take small walks around my street every day because why not?

I walked up to the gas station and grabbed a pack of gum, a Hershey, a Pepsi, and a pack of skittles for Elijah. I waited in line till the person in front of me looked familiar. He turned around and I noticed it was Jake. I looked down to avoid eye contact but yet he still recognized me.

His turn came and he put his stuff down.

"Put everything in the girl behind me's hands on my tab." He said getting my attention.

"No, ple-" He cut me off.

"Just do it. We're friends," He said covering my mouth. The cashier did as told and Jake paid for me things. I grabbed my bag and walked out of the gas station. Jake followed me.

"No thank you?" He asked.

"For what? I didn't ask you to pay for me." I responded.

"I was making it up to you." He said rolling his eyes.

"I didn't ask for that either and roll your eyes one more time. I dare you," I said staring into his eyes,

"See you Raini." He said making fun of me.

"ITS RAINA!" I screamed as he got into his car. I walked back home and gave Elijah his skittles. I went up to my room and changed into my pj's, skin-tight shorts with a matching top. I laid down in my bed and drifted off into the world of sleep.
