Chapter 3: Tear

It's Christian.

I stared at his face.

He's asleep.

He looks so peaceful like a baby sleeping on his mother's gentle arms.

". . .Mom. . ." He moaned.

Tears starts to fall from his eyes.

My chest starts to congest. I could feel his sorrow that I guess he endured for years, Alone.

My body moved on its own accord.

I hugged him.

H-huh?..

To my surprise, I could touch him.

How come that I could touch him?

I'm a ghost right?

My thoughts halted when he hugged me back.

"...Mom..." he cried even harder. His eyes still closed.

I caressed his hair.

A few moments later he stopped crying and his hug starts to loose.

I stood up and went to the bed and reached for the pillow and blanket.

I went back to him and lay the pillow on the floor. I laid him gently on the floor with his head on the pillow and covered him with the blanket.

I laid on the end of the bed in front of him.

I'm really tired.

*  *  *

I was awakened by the heat of the sunlight that passes through my face.

I squint my eyes to look for Christian but my vision is still blurry.

I rubbed my eyes and I saw Christian sitting in front of the glass door and intently looking at me.

"Are you okay now?" I asked

He just frowned.

"What?" I asked again.

He stood up and left the room.

What's wrong with him?

I followed him.

"Hey wait!" I yelled at him.

But he just walked like he didn't heard anything.

What's happening? Can't he see me?

I followed him and we came to a huge kitchen. It has a glass walls that views the huge garden on the outside.

He opened to the refrigerator and got some slice of chicken, potatoes , can of pineapples and other spices.

"You can cook?" though it's obvious that he can cook but just for sake of asking, I asked.

He still won't budge and he just starts to prepare to cook.

I just sat on the stool in front of the breakfast bar.

I stared at him intently, watching every move he made.

He  can't see me? But he looked at me earlier. Did I do something wrong?

* * *

He finished cooking and still not giving me a word or even a look.

He took a seat in the dining table and started eating his breakfast.

I followed him and also took a seat beside him.

"...That looks delicious... wish I can also get to eat that..." I muttered.

The dish' savory smell roam over the place that I guess whoever smells they would  go against all odds just to taste it.

"You'll be a good chef someday. That is, if you want to ," I said.

I just looked at him savor every bits of his food until he's done.

He picked up the utensils and washed it immediately.

He's a neat guy, I guess.

He walked and went upstairs.

Following him upstairs would be pointless. He can't see me.

I passed through the glass wall to the garden. I sat to the nearby bench.

So what am I gonna do now?

I felt that again, emptiness.

Having neither purpose nor identity.

Why?.. Why am I experiencing this? Did I do something wrong when I was alive?

I sighed.

I looked around the garden. It has the same flowers in the front of the house.

This house is huge for someone who lives alone. Where are his parents by the way? I haven't seen anyone aside from him.

I heard the door clicked. I went to the front of the house and saw Christian in front of the garage.

He pushed some button beside the door of the garage then it opened.

He went inside and went inside the car.

"Hey w-wait!" I yelled.

I went to the door of the driver's seat.

"You're not gonna leave me here, Are you?" I asked incredulously.

He scrabbled inside of his pocket and pulled out the car key and starts the engine.

I hurriedly went inside the open door of the back seat before he pushed a button that closes it and maneuver the car outside. The garage door automatically closes.

The gate automatically opened and he maneuvered it through the road.

I scowled at him at through the mirror.

"How dare you attempt to leave there?" I whimpered.

"Of course you can't hear me. I guess no one can..." I looked outside.

A few moments later, I reverted my gaze to the mirror.

For a second, I thought he looked at me but I guess it was just my imagination or maybe he was just looking at back of the car.

Oh wait. I'm in a car.

Aren't ghosts only passes through things? I shouldn't be able to ride here. Or maybe ghosts can?

I don't know. Do I have to worry about that?

A few minutes later we arrived at the gate of a huge campus. Beside the gate is there's a "Midgar University" elegantly embossed in a plaque.

Christian showed his I.D. to the security guard on beside the gate then it opened and the we went inside.

He parked it to the parking lot. He went outside and so am I.

Huh?

I tried to passed through the car door but I couldn't. To my surprise, I could touch the door, but how? I opened the door and went outside still confused.

I looked around and Christian is already walking towards the 6-storey building.

I followed him.

I'm still wondering how I could touch the door earlier.

What am I really? ...
