"Come with me!" Kara suddenly blurted out, her face immediately turning red in embarassmentt.

She opened her mouth to continue, stopped, tightened her jaw and then spoke. "To Metropolis. My cousin, Kal, he'll make this right. He's the good person I swear even if he can make really stupid decisions! He couldn't have known what would have happened to either of us here. We all can start over...a clean slate."

Cadmus nearly turned his head away at the hope dancing across her expression.

It was a nice notion, a fresh start, but one that could never be. The past couldn't simply stop existing just because you wished it to. He would never forget what happened, and he doubted any hero that sat on the table and read out his sentence would either. But, the idea lingered still, no matter how logic ruthlessly tore holes in its fabric.

An errant thought occurred to ask her to come with him, to where, he didn't know, to do what, he knew that even less. And if she accepted, how long would it be until her cousin and all of the Man of Steel's comrades came bursting through the door in search of her?

Neither of them deserved that, especially Kara.

She would say yes of course, and the little voice in the back of his mind extolling the benefits of having someone so loyal in his camp would not go quiet. There was only one solution he could see. They had been companions on this island, by virtue of his own necessity of escape, but it was that very real affection that he felt for her now that stopped Cadmus from asking her to go with him.

They had to go there separate ways, for now.

She to her cousin, and his protection. For all of his distaste of heroes in general, Cadmus would reluctantly admit he held Superman in higher regard especially compared to the rest of the Justice League. Kara would be safe with him, far safer than he would be with him.

And Cadmus, he had a life to rebuild, Rose to find, and he doubted she'd be all too happy with bringing back with him a blonde female Kryptonian with him from his years long sabbatical.

He met her eyes and reluctantly shook his head, doing his best to ignore the downcast look that appeared across her face. "I cannot thank you enough for what you have done for me, Kara, but this…this is where go our separate ways."

"But why?" her voice warbled.

Because your cousin and his friends would try to throw me into a deeper hole if I had said yes and then Bruce would try to remove the "brainwashing" I'd obviously put you under.

"We're finally free," Cadmus replied instead. "To do whatever we want, and no one call tell us otherwise. Build a life for yourself Kara, and one day we'll meet again."

"You promised to take me for pizza," she said.

Cadmus felt a surge up his spine at the look she gave him. Then with a surge, she was in front of him and her lips were on his, pressing forcefully and needily without care. His arms wrapped around her waist and her fingers tangled themselves in his air.

And just as quickly as it began, the kiss ended, but neither moved from their place in the other's embrace. Kara looked up at him smouldering blue eyes.

"You still owe me." She said after taking a deep breath.

Cadmus laughed, reaching to push a curl from her face. "I know. We'll meet again I promise you that."

"Don't make promises you can't keep," she said without any bite. She floated up high until he could barely make out her face. She turned once more, before with a sound-breaking roar disappeared across the horizon in a streak of yellow and white.

Cadmus waited there, watching the sky where she had just been, for seconds, maybe even minutes.

An unfamiliar tugging sensation blossomed in his heart, pulling in the direction of the horizon, almost calling him to whatever lay beyond.

"Goodbye, Kara." Cadmus gave into the sensation and weightlessness overcame him, and his body once solid turned a shimmering gold. And with a gust of wind, the shroud of sand was blown away into the horizon, leaving the island of Themiscyra.

Hello everyone,

I'm here to let you know that we'll be catching up with the quest/fanfic soon. There are only three arcs left to go. As a result, updates won't be as frequent. You might not see updates every day or even every week, it could be once a month.

Additionally, the length of updates may vary. They might range from 1k (maybe less) to 4k words. I'm not sure when the author will update.
