Chapter four: a deal in motion

All I could think about is that this couldn't be real. But no matter how many times I blinked, it was still there. My words came out choked and almost strained as I stared at the now decomposing body of Dr. White as he walked into view, giving off a nasty rotting smell. "How the fuck is that even possible?! We weren't even gone twenty minutes!" Adam exclaimed as he backed up a bit, still holding the girl from earlier. At this point, she was knocked from exhaustion which was good because she didn't have to see this. I nearly gagged and covered my mouth and nose as I stared at him.

How the hell was I supposed kill something that was already dead? We slowly backed away from White as he slumped closer. I checked the gun to see how many bullets I had left in the clips. Two. That's all I need. I smiled as I aimed the gun at the walking corpse as it got closer. I decided to aim for his head before pulling the trigger. The first bullet hit the side of his head and I mentally hit myself for it. I put the other bullet in the chamber and aimed the gun at his head again before firing it. It finally hit the center of his forehead and going straight through, making blood splatter everywhere. I let out sigh of relief and ran a hand through my hair before putting the gun back in Adam's gun pouch. "Come on, I don't want to stay around that thing any longer." He nodded before we started walking away from the body, going by from where it came. I'm just glad to get away from the smell. As we made our way closer to the tunnels, I couldn't help but look behind us as we walked. I really didn't want to get caught this time. I'm hoping we actually make it to the tunnels without being chased or anything. We were half way to the entrance to them but was stopped by an announcement over the loud speakers.

'All guards please stay on high alert for an escaped patient and a betraying guard. A generous reward will be handed out to those who bring them to the lab for treatment. Thank you.

I couldn't help but scoff and grimace as I huffed in anger after hearing the announcement. All this was bullshit. I just wanted to leave and they're taking things too far. I huffed more as I got even more angry, unaware of the smoke coming from my nose and the small fangs slowly growing in my mouth. I softly let out an unnatural growl as I started walking again with horns growing from my head. At this point, I stopped caring on who caught me anymore. The lights flicked as I passed underneath them. I was tired of being treated like I was nothing. Now is the time to take back what I was never given. My freedom. And if I had to get it through force, then so be it. I felt my nails sharpen and the horns on my head grow longer as my eyes dilated to complete black as some guards came around the corner. As soon as they started firing at me, a dark shadow came from my hands and headed directly for them.

They started to back away as soon as the shadows came near but it was far too late. The shadows wrapped around them and was gone as quick as it came, taking the guards with it. I huffed angrily and turned away as I went back to normal, smoke coming out my nose in wisps. "Get inside now," I demanded to Adam as he stood there in shock. He quickly nodded and walked into the room, heading to the tunnels. I'm tired of people trying to stand in my way. It was time to do shit my way. When I got into the room, I removed the short bookcase from in front of the entrance. I looked at Adam then the girl. "You go first. I'll keep a look out in case someone tries to get in. You better hurry." He nodded quickly and ducked down to get in. He squeezed himself in the best he could with a small child in his arms. I pressed my ear to the door to make sure that no footsteps was heading this way. "I got it," I heard Adam call from the other side. I sighed and turned back to the entrance. "About time too." I quickly wiggled myself through and stood beside him. "Ready?" He nodded and held the child close while making sure she was comfortable in his arms.

"Alright. Let's go then." We started walking through the tunnels and kept along the familiar walls. I've only been through less than half these tunnels yet this was the only time I'm actually going to make it. I wonder how different the outside world will look like. What would happen if we did successfully escape? Would we part ways? No. That can't happen. Not after what just happened. What we just witnessed is between us and only us. We got to stick together, no matter what. It took us about twenty five to thirty minutes to get out the tunnels. The sun was barely hanging on to the sky when we came out showing that it was late afternoon to early evening. I squinted my eyes and covered them, acting like a vampire. "Jeez, you're acting like you never seen the sun before," Adam said as he towered over beside me. "Well, no shit. It's not like y'all would let me out on walks or anything." So this is it. My time has come. My time to be who I truly desired to be. The world's greatest leader. And whoever dared to stand in my way and mock me will know the pain that I have endured for so long. Time to make the world mine.
