18 Until It's Time

Rachael Point Of View:

The next day in school, everyone is wearing a school spirit shirt to show they support their football players or their school. Or they are wearing because they were forced to like me.

"Why does it feel like I'm going to a funeral?" I whine, looking down at my all-black outfit.

Black T-shirt, black shoes, black pants, and black socks.

"You forgot to paint your nails black," Mason speaks up, looking up from his book. I tilt my head to see the cover of the book, it looks boring as hell? Or heaven?

"No thanks," I reject Mason's idea, looking at my own nails. I barely paint my nails, one it's too much work, two I suck at painting my own nails, and three...I believe you guys know.

"Are you going to read that boring book all day or what?" I ask.

"I could if I want to, but you're bored aren't you?" Mason says putting his book back into his backpack.

"Meh."

"Sophie is in the library, we could meet her there," Mason says. "Unless you're going to hang out with Sarah."

It's either ditch Sophie or ditch Sarah then. Or ditch both. Or ditch no one.

"I'll take Sophie and Sarah," I say, grabbing my bag. "I'll get Sarah and we will meet you in the library."

Mason just walk off to the library alone.

I haven't seen Sam and Hannah this morning because they are in the gym getting ready for tonight. As for Austin, I don't know where he is right now. Probably sleeping in, or whatever he's doing.

I walk down the hallway trying to spot Sarah in the crowds. It would be a lot easier if I'm taller, but being short as a marshmallow isn't helping.

"You look lost," says a soft voice behind me. I turn around facing Sarah, "I'm not lost, I was trying to find you."

"Oh! What is it?" She asks, surprise written all over her face.

"You're coming with me," I say, tugging her arm to come with me to the library.

"Kidnapping me?" Sarah jokes.

"In the daylight?" I ask. "Pfft, that would be the most unfortunate time to kidnap someone, so no."

We made our way to the racket hallways, bumping into people and mumbling apologizes along the way. When we enter the library and saw Sophie and Mason in the corner table with books out.

Great.

More.

Books.

Don't they ever get bored?

"Seriously guys," I slam my palm down on the table. "Do something fun for once and drop that book."

"We were doing something fun until you interrupted us," Sophie says slamming her book shut.

I roll my eyes, "Alright, let me introduce you -"

"We know each other," Sarah says.

"Oh, I knew that," I say sarcastically. "Everyone is friends here, what a coincidence."

"Rachael and I were waiting for him, but he didn't show up," Mason said. "So, we plan to meet you here with Sarah."

"Ugh, can't we just like text?" Sophie questions us. "I mean like, this book is so good so far, and now I have to stop because of you guys."

Mason and I gave her a blank stare.

Is this girl for real?

"I mean like, isn't that the purpose of texting? To communicate with others?" Sophie smiles innocently.

Now I think about it, that is the reason why texting was invented.

I pull both Sarah's and Mason's arms with me as I walk to the opposite side of the library and took out my phone. Then I created a group chat of us four.

I sent the first message in the group chat.

GROUP CHAT

Rachael: Alright peeps, let's chat.

Sarah: I didn't know you were actually going to do that.

Mason: We be the kids in the twenty-first-century.

Rachael: Eh, where is Sophie?

Rachael: Sophie!

Rachael: Sophie!!!

Rachael: Nerd girl!

Rachael: Sophie *blank* Williams!

Rachael: This is your fucking idea.

Rachael: 😡😡😡 🖕🖕🖕

Sophie: Okay okay, let's talk in person.

~~~
I look up from my phone and saw Sophie storming at us.
I smile at her, "Ooohhh I'm scared."
She rolls her eyes, "We've got 5 minutes until class is going to start, what do you wanna talk about?"
"Let's talk like friends," I say. "Any tea, or anything new?"
"Well, we've got a game today and if we win, Austin wants to throw a party in my house," Sophie says.
"Ohhh," I say happily. "So why your house in particular?"
"You will see if we win tonight," Sophie smirks.
Mason chuckles, "She loaded."
"Loaded?" I ask looking at Sophie confused then I look at Sarah who just shrugs.
The bell rings, we wave each other goodbyes and headed our separate ways to class.
I was minding my own business until someone came up behind me.
In their raspy voice, they said, "You miss me?"
I look around to see Hannah smiling, her hair is damp wet and tired.
"Nah, I saw you yesterday," I reply, continue walking to my class.
She chuckles next to me, "You look beautiful today."
I look at her before saying, "I didn't beautiful yesterday?"
"You look beautiful every day, I just want to compliment you today," Hannah says, brushing her hair back.
"You're not blind or anything, right? Cause I'm wearing all black because of school spirits and it's annoying." I say, raising a brow at her.
Hannah shook her head and smiles, "You look pretty and it doesn't matter if you're wearing clothes or not."
I could feel my eyes balls are bludging out of my skull.
She quickly said, "What I mean is that you look good in anything."
We stop at the front door of Government & Politics.
Hannah press a kiss on my cheek before walking away, "Don't forget our date this Saturday!"
"It's not a date!" I shout at her as she continues walking. "We're just hanging out!"
"Sounds like a date to me," She yells back, and her chuckles follows.
Ugh!
I enter the classroom and saw Sam sitting in the back looking down at her phone. I slide in the chair next to her.
"Hello my acquaintance," I tease her.
