14 Unless You Change Your Mind

Samantha Point Of View:

"What about our relationship?" Rachael asks dumbfounded, averting her eyes away from me.

I give her a 'are you joking' look, she literally was all over this topic this morning and now she's acting like it's nothing big.

"I know what are we," I say feeling my heartbeat quickens when I said that because I didn't come up with a conclusion. Sarah was the one who gives me the idea to talk to Rachael, and she was the one who kicked me out of the table to Rachael's table.

"We are acquaintances," I said boldly, her eyes shot up and look at me.

"You've got to be kidding me," She snaps her fingers and points at my chest. "What did you just said?!"

I took a deep breath and repeat myself, "We are acquaintances."

Her grey eyes darken as her eyebrows furrows, "Oh please, clarified it for me."

I gulp, "Acquaintances means, you know the person slightly and do not consider them as friends. Which is you and me."

Rachael remains silent, her lips are pressed together and eyes staring at me intensely making me feel small under her gaze. My eyes widen at her, my breathing starts to get heavy and I brought my hands up to my chest. Finally, she looks away shaking her head.

"Well then," She paused. "I'll see you later, acquaintance."

She did a full one-eighty and stomp down the hallway. I didn't know short people could be scary sometimes. The bell rings, people start to pour out of the cafeteria in a rush. Loud voices explode in the hallways as more students exit the cafeteria, I try to spot Rachael in the crowd, but I guess, she's too short to spot.

I was about to drop my head, but Sarah called me from the crowd. I spotted easily because of her red hair.

"How did it went?" Sarah asks when I caught up to her.

I remain silent, playing how Rachael react to my answer in my head. Is it a good reaction? No, cause she went on flames. Typical bad temper coming from Rachael. Is it a bad reaction? Yes, cause I didn't know she would act like that.

Then again, why do I care? She's annoying, therefore, she's off my list.

"Well?" Sarah says, brushing her bangs away from her face.

"She stormed off," I say. "Because I told her, we're acquaintances."

Sarah looks at me, "Are you stupid or something? Like, hello? You guys have been talking for about two weeks, constantly mocking each other and teasing each other. How are you guys acquaintances?"

"She barely knows me, and I barely know her," I reply with a shrug. "She's annoying too."

"Well, you're stupid," Sarah snaps. "Geez, now you've made your life a lot more difficult than ever."

"How?" I ask.

We're acquaintances, therefore, no feelings involved. We are like strangers... And I guess strangers mock each other?

"We've got a project to do in our last class," Sarah says. "And all three of us are in the same group, now look at that, I guess you guys are partners."

"All three of us are partners," I point out. "Therefore...threesomes..."

She gives a shocked look, and I quickly said, "In partner wise."

"Rachael isn't annoying, she just wants to be your friend," Sarah says softly. "I know you've got trust-issues, but Rachael isn't bad."

"That's what you said about Hannah before," I murmured.

Sarah looks at me with regret shown in her eyes, "Hannah? Yes, it was my fault. Hannah did make some mistakes and she regrets it, but I swear, Rachael won't turn out like Hannah."

I clench my jaw as the memories flow back into my mind, I wish those memories don't follows me around.

"Samantha, are you ready for our date this Sunday?" My girlfriend asks, our legs are tangled together as I lay on top of her after watching a movie with her. Her fingers are brushing through my hair as she plants a kiss on a forehead.

I look up to meet those hazel eyes, those eyes whom I'm obsessed with. She's beautiful, no doubt. She smiles down at me, and I smiled back. Then suddenly a thought cross my mind, is it true? Is it all true? It can't be though, she's loyal, she wouldn't do such a thing.

My smile turns in a frown when I remember what happened during school today.

Lately, I've been hearing about rumors that a cheerleader hooked up with a football player. It's not any cheerleader, but a cheerleader name Hannah. There are no other Hannah in our team, except my girlfriend, however, I don't think it's her though. Hannah and I are dating, she can't do that... She can, but if she...cheated on me.

I felt soft fingers under my chin, they lift my head to look up at them.

"What's the matter, Samantha?" Hannah asks softly, looking at me with her hazel eyes.

She wouldn't do it, she's not those kinds of person.

I pulled her closer to me, and snuggle in her arms.

"Unless you change your mind about going on the date with me this Sunday," Hannah says sadly.

"No, I'm going," I say, pushing the negative thoughts away in my mind.

She smiles and starts to give me a back rub. Silence surrounds us, it's comfortable silence but my mind, just couldn't shake off the feeling of Hannah cheating on me.

I broke the silence and ask, "Do you love me, babe?"

"I love you," She whispers in my ear, tightens her arm around me. "Always, you're mine forever. My baby girl, my love, my moon, my sweetheart, and my lover."

I relax in her embrace and my heart flatters when I heard all of those pet names she's given to me last year.

Then a realization hit me, "Babe, our second year of the anniversary is coming up!"

She chuckles, "Yes, on Valentine's day."

Later that night, I walk home from Hannah's house, we don't live that far away from each other. Just three blocks away.

I open the door and saw my parents, who won't let me call them Father or Mother, but Brian and Mackenzie. Why? I don't know, they don't like me very much though.

"Take the leftovers in the fridge," said Brian, staring at the television.

I flip out my phone and wait for Hannah to text me. Usually, she would ask me if I'm home yet.

Nothing.

Maybe she's busy, I thought, but then, who's busy at 8 pm?

And that was the first day when I realized Hannah hasn't been the Hannah I know.
