17 I Will Wait

Rachael Point Of View:

Tonight is the night before the football game, Austin is anxious and excited about the game this Friday night. Hannah and Samantha have been busy lately because they've been practicing a lot to get ready for the game tomorrow. Mason and Sophie are busy usual, they've been studying and reading a lot.

Right now, I'm Face Timing with Sarah to talk about the project for AP Physics.

"In this project, we're going to talk about volume, mass, and energy," Sarah says, flipping through her textbook and I did the same.

I flip to the page where it describes the things we need to know, "So, why are we going this again? I learn this during my freshman year..."

"Cause she said that we need a refresher, we learned this during our sophomore year," She replies. "Are you on the page yet?"

"Yup," I say.

"Alright, so the rubric said we need to make a Slide Show of it or a poster," She said reading off from the rubric on her laptop.

"I'm going to pick the theme of the slides," I speak up. "And, I'm going put a title in each slide..."

Sarah nods at my idea, but little did she know, I'm only doing it cause it's easy. I don't want to deal with AP Physics at night, I should be watching a movie or something. Samantha isn't here on Face Time because Sarah said she's busy. Bruh, she can't be practicing at night. She would be a noodle tomorrow... Unless cheerleaders are supposed to be noodles cause they are flexible.

"I'll put in the definition of each vocab," I say. "Then we can go in-dept on other slides."

"..." Sarah looks at me lip pressed together. I think she's either mad or annoyed with me.

"I'm starting to think you're taking all the easy task..." She says, looking at me in the eyes.

Quickly, I took the water bottle next to my laptop and drink the water avoiding her eyes.

"Sorry about that," I say putting down the water bottle. "And what were you saying?"

I smile at her innocently.

She just shakes her head, "If you need help, I can help you."

"I know," I say letting out a sigh. "Can we do this project later and talk about something else?"

Sarah looks at me for a moment before letting out a sigh.

"Fine, what do you want to talk about?" She asks, shutting her laptop.

"Um... I want to talk about clubs in this school," I say, scratching the back of my neck. Recently, I got yelled at for not taking any activities after school, which Dad was pissed and disappointed in me.

"You're interested in clubs?" Sarah asks, looking interested now.

I shook my head, "I'm not interested in clubs, but my Dad is interested in clubs."

"Um...so your Dad wants to go back to school?" She asks, making me chuckle.

"He could if he wants to join clubs, but he wants me to join clubs," I say, pointing at myself. "Now I come to think of it, maybe I could just sign up my Dad to join a club."

She chuckles at my idea, "Well, I'm in Speech and Model UN, but if you want to know more. You could ask Sam."

"We're not in talking terms," I murmured.

"Why not?" Sarah questioned.

"Well, you see, I enjoy our acquaintance's relationship and I don't want to ruin it by talking to her," I say sarcastic, then roll my eyes in annoyance.

She looks down and ran her finger through her red hair, then she starts to fidget her fingers around.

...

...those are the signs of being nervous right?

"Why are you nervous?" I ask looking at her.

She takes a deep breath and let out her breath, "There's something I want to tell you about Sam."

"What is it?" I ask in curiosity.

"Sam doesn't like it when people come close to her," She says.

"Oh, I'm aware of that," I say.

"You see..." She hesitates, before continuing. "There are reasons..."

I bite my inner cheek, waiting for her to continue.

Silence filled my room when she didn't continue. I give her a few more minutes and plan to break the silence.

"What's the reason?" I ask.

"Um...I don't think I should tell you..." She said, looking unsure.

I roll my eyes, "You were the one who brought it up, Sarah, and therefore, you're going to finish what you've started. Also, stop leaving me hanging, it's going to make me more curious."

She hesitates for a moment, "Fine, but don't tell anyone."

Well look at that, I told my sister to not tell anyone and now Sarah is telling me something not to tell anyone.

Secrets.

Everyone got little secrets.

S-e-c-r-e-t-s.

Secrets.

Secrets.

Alright, I'll stop.

"I won't tell anyone, what is it?" I say.

"Sam has trust-issues, and her past isn't pretty," She says. "There are so many things about Sam, I may not know it all, but you don't know her at all."

Oh geez, thank you for telling me I don't know Sam. Thank you for the clarification.

"What I'm telling you is that Sam has gone thought a lot during her childhood, but what happen last year broke her," She said softly. "She lost trust, she lost someone who she thought she could trust and tell them about her problems. Like someone, who would be there for her."

"What happened?" I question.

No one has a pretty past, to be honest, but things get better as you move forward. I mean, I used to be left home when both my parents used to work. My brother would be at school for a long time because he would be doing study groups for other students like a tutor. My parents aren't home all the time, and it makes the house scary for a little kid. Until my Mom had my sister, she quit her job and realized that leaving a kid alone at home is dangerous. Wish she thought that sooner, but I guess, in this world, we need money to survive.

But how bad is Sam's past?
