What Is Wrong?

With parted lips, Kai stared back at Jinn and his piercing blue eyes. A wave of familiarity swept over him, causing Kai to quickly glance back at the coffee gripped tight in his hands. Momentarily the two sat quietly while Kai purposely stared down at his coffee in front of him, for some reason, he didn't have anything to say.

"How long have you been back?", Jinn finally spoke.

"I flew in on Sunday.", Kai responded.

"Did you enjoy Japan?"

"Mn.", Kai nodded, still not looking up.

"Kai, could you at least give me the common courtesy and look me at me?", said Jinn.

Quickly looking up, Kai furrowed his brows as the two made eye contact. "Did you really pick a fight with me earlier just because you knew I'd come here?".

"I did.", said Jinn, a smirk on his handsome face. "I didn't know how else to get in con..", Jinn continued, but Kai cut him off.

"What do you want Jinn?", he said rudely.

"What you said earlier, are you only going to be here for a little while?", Jinn asked as his smirk dissipated.

Glancing back at the coffee squeezed tight in his hands, Kai let out a sigh before speaking, "I don't know, I only said that so.."

"You could hurt me?", Jinn interrupted.

"No!", Kai raised his voice as he quickly looked back up at Jinn. "I mean…even if that was my intention, I highly doubt that I could, you've moved on, haven't you!?", his voice faltered.

Jinn brought his mouth inward for a second as he swallowed hard. "I didn't come here to argue with you Kai.", Jinn responded.

"Seriously Jinn, what are you doing here?", Kai asked, almost begging as he was growing increasingly anxious.

"To be blunt, I just wanted to see you, it's been over a damn year Kai.", said Jinn. Hearing Jinn's words, Kai's heart began to race as he let out a heavy exhale.

"Well can I ask what happened to you?", Kai asked grudgingly.

Glancing away for a moment, Jinn also let out a heavy exhale, "To be honest, talking to you regularly just felt like you were away on a business trip, I needed to…I just.", Jinn paused, unable to say what he wanted to.

"I get it.", Kai smirked for a second and the table grew quiet again, nothing but tension and old hurt brewing in the air.

"Did you find what you were looking for in Japan?", Jinn suddenly asked, an almost hopeful expression on his handsome face.

"…", Nervously, Kai looked up as his lips parted, but nothing came out of his mouth, no matter how he answered, Jinn would most likely be hurt with whatever he said. "I…", Kai finally began to say, but Jinn's phone, rang causing Kai to stop.

Pulling his phone out of his pocket, Jinn answered, "Hello? Yeah, I'm off of work, but I'm not home yet." Jinn spoke to the person on the phone, a smirk making its way onto his face. Letting out a sigh, Kai averted his gaze to the people coming in and out of the coffee shop, the person on the phone must have been the guy Jinn was with at the store the other day.

"Okay, see you in a bit.", said Jinn before hanging up. "I'm sorry about that.", Jinn smiled, his dimples present like always and Kai couldn't help, but to stare as he forced himself to look away.

"I should probably get going.", Kai suddenly blurted out.

"Oh? Well let me give you a ride at least.", Jinn offered.

"Ah no, no. It's fine.", Kai bashfully declined, but Jinn rolled his eyes and stood.

"Come on, lets go.", said Jinn, raising his brows and gesturing toward the door. Hesitant for a moment, Kai finally got up as he whined internally, why was Jinn so damn stubborn?

Quietly the two walked to the car, getting in. Jinn put the key in the ignition, starting the car and pulled off.

"So where am I taking you to, a hotel?", Jinn asked, breaking the silence.

"Uh no, I'm staying with Saya.", Kai responded.

"Ah okay, you can put the address in the GPS, you know how it works.", said Jinn and Kai glanced over for a moment before entering Saya's address, as his thoughts were running wild and getting the best of him. Kai couldn't help but to feel uneasy, it all just felt to familiar for his taste.

"So, you'll be staying there by yourself while she's traveling?", Jinn asked, again breaking the silence.

"Uh no, she'll be stationed in California permanently.", said Kai.

"Oh okay, good for her.", said Jinn as he focused on the road while following the GPS.

Letting out a sigh, Jinn glanced at Kai for a moment as he stared out the window, Kai was still the same mind bottling, fiesty guy who had left him over a year ago. "Listen, I know things are pretty awkward right now, but they don't have to be."

"So, you say.", Kai rolled his eyes.

"Kai, I know you like the back of my hand, like the fact that you're staring out of the window is something you do when you're anxious."

Quickly turning his head, Kai glared at Jinn, "I do not!", he pouted, looking away and staring at his lap.

"See? You're just as feisty, you haven't changed one bit.", Jinn giggled.

"Well neither have you, you're just as persistent!", Kai smiled, unable to help himself from giggling.

"Ah, there it is.", said Jinn with a smirk on his face.

"There what is?", Kai asked

"Ah nothing.", said Jinn as his smirk turned into a smile. "But listen, considering you were interested in reapplying at work, you're most likely going to be staying in America for a while, am I right?" said Jinn

"…", but Kai didn't respond, as he only let out a barely audible groan.

"Just take the job Kai, you're good at what you do, everyone would love to have you back.", said Jinn as he pulled over to park.

"Everyone?", Kai asked, with both brows raised.

"Everyone and believe me Jane was heartbroken when you told her you no longer wanted to apply.", Jinn chuckled.

"Ahh, I'll think about it.", Kai responded, a small smirk making its way onto his face.

"Okay then, just let me know and I'll set it up for you to make things easier.", said Jinn with a smile, his deep dimples present.

"Alright.", said Kai as he opened the door to get out of the car.

"Oh, give me your number so I can contact you, I'll text you.", said Jinn handing Kai his phone.

"Oh, okay.", said Kai, taking the phone. As he turned on the screen, it read, 'enter passcode.',

"Unlock it for me.", said Kai handing it back.

"Oh shit.", said Jinn, taking the phone, quickly unlocking it and handing it back to Kai. As Kai typed his number in the phone, he remembered that he and Jinn had agreed to never put a passcode on their phones, perhaps he had changed a bit.

"Alright, my numbers in there.", said Kai handing Jinn his phone back, as he began getting out of the car again.

"Okay, it was good to see you Kai, you look good.", said Jinn, and Kai stopped for a minute, turning around to see his smile widening.

"…", dumbfounded Kai simply nodded, getting out of the car and closing the door, making his way up the steps to Saya's house.

For a moment, Jinn sat just watching Kai as he walked away, his cute pigeon-toed feet were always just inches from tripping over each other when he walked. Letting out a smirk, Jinn plopped himself back in his seat roughly just watching as Kai had made it to the door and was unlocking it. Letting out a heavy sigh, Jinn's smirk began to fade, "Why does he still have that effect on me after all this time?", Jinn said to himself. As Kai had unlocked the door, he turned around, waving before he entered the house and Jinn waved with a smile, driving off.

When Jinn reached his apartment and got off the elevator, he strolled down the hall lost in thought.

"How the heck did I beat you here and you're the one with the car?", a familiar voice giggled. Jinn looked up to see Richard leaning against his apartment door.

"Ahh I'm sorry, I made a stop.", said Jinn walking up and kissing Richard as he puckered for a kiss.

"Where'd you stop?", Richard asked as Jinn unlocked the door and went in.

"I just went to get some gas, the morning rush is always a pain in the ass.", Jinn lied as he sat on the couch.

"Yeah that is true, I'll heat you some dinner and then we can relax for the rest of the night.", said Rich walking away.

After the two had eaten, Jinn changed into more comfortable clothes for the night and the two laid in bed watching tv with Rich cuddled up under Jinn.

"Babe, did you see that?", Richard chuckled as something stupid had happened on tv, but Jinn didn't respond. "Babe?"

"Oh huh?", Jinn said as he had been snapped back to reality.

"What's wrong babe? You spaced out on me.", said Rich with a pout.

"It's nothing Richard, I'm just a little tired is all.", Jinn responded, pulling his boyfriend closer to him. Letting out a barely audible sigh, Jinn closed his eyes, it was true that he was tired, but that wasn't all that was wrong, he couldn't stop thinking about Kai.
