Chapter 1: Reminiscing

P͟o͟v͟: Kian

Sometimes I wonder if I was ever alive before right now, this exact moment. Yet, sometimes, when my mind is less absent than usual, I can vaguely remember fragments of a troubled past. Smiling faces, smells, and later on a feeling of dread so deep and cold my mind doesn't even dare to touch the troubling darkness. My memory betrayed me a long time ago. I live in a dark time called the present, with no way out. All I am now is a shell, a ghost if you may, of a total stranger. I have only known this life. This horrible way of living. Pain, my constant companion, to keep me awake throughout the cold nights. I am an object. An object of h͟i͟s. I'm not even worthy to be called a 'pet'. I am a weapon. A pretty deadly one too, if I might say so myself. I have no other purpose then to do my masters bidding. Follow his every command. I feel no remorse. I feel nothing anymore. I stopped pitying myself a long time ago. I knew it wouldn't matter either way. So I lie still as ever on the cellar floor, my bare skin going numb from the icy coldness of the stone ground beneath me. Each breath forms a little white cloud that swiftly floats away to make room for the next one. I have no perception of time anymore. I might have been down here for a few hours or maybe even weeks. I wouldn't know the difference. The only light visible is a single flickering torch a little farther down the corridor, behind the bars that hold me imprisoned. I haven't moved since I got thrown back in here and carefully I try to stretch out my stiffened limbs again. I groan as I feel my muscles struggling to carry the weight of my tired body. Every muscle and every joint I try to somewhat revive again makes me wince and shiver in agony. I had failed my master, and this was my punishment. I pull myself towards the thick iron bars of my cell to just get that little closer to the torch in the hallway. Of course that doesn't help one bit. It's midwinter and I have nothing on but a leather collar around my bruised neck. Actually, my entire body is covered in those blueish purple spots. Not to mention the countless scars... I start shaking as the cold seems to be slowly creeping further into my body. I manage to turn my back towards the iron bars and let my head fall backwards. My body is broken, and if I'm not carefull it'll take my mind down with it.
