23 Chapter 23: Home

Edie was surprised how the receptionist could change her face so quickly. Her heart was inexplicably a little unpleasant—why was she so unhappy that someone was coveting Stuart!

Immediately she explained to herself that she was now his nominal wife.

Although the marriage was a fake, the marriage certificate was authentic. If others like that coveted her husband, it was she, the official wife, to be embarrassed! Edie made a telling-secret look, covering her mouth and whispering, "But he is gay and dislikes women."

"What!" The receptionist screamed, and everyone in the hall looked at them. She simply continued like she didn't realize, "Really? Impossible! Such a handsome man is a homosexual? What happened to the world!

There were only a few good men, and they all like men. I thought I met my Mr. Right. Why am I so unlucky…?" She said and almost began to cry. Edie was merely stunned and suddenly understood a little why the character of Stuart was so cold.

He might have been coveted for more than twenty years with such an appearance even though he was so cold and kept far away from others. If he had been slightly friendlier, the person who pursued him would have been as many as the water drops in the Pacific Ocean.

Edie hadn't got her answer, and she quickly stopped her, "Hey, don't cry. Did you see where he went?" The dream of the receptionist was broken, and she didn't care for her. She simply pointed to the door, "There was a limousine waiting for him outside. He just got in and left."

Edie nodded and thanked the receptionist and then chased it outside, but the car had already left. She hesitated for a moment, biting her lower lip, took out her cell phone, and dialed the number of Stuart.

At that moment, in the limousine, there was a subtle silence. Stuart lay lazily against the seat with his legs crossed elegantly. He kept his eyes half-opened without saying a word, but his tight thin lips indicated that his mood was awful.

If you were to look a little closer, it was easy to find that his back was very stiff, but he concealed it. Mr. Sampson and the secretary looked at each other, and no one dared to speak. They were both confused in their hearts.

When the young master got out of the car, he was in a good mood, how could he become colder than usual when he came back? As soon as he got in the car, even the temperature inside the vehicle was several degrees lower.

The secretary carefully pulled his suit closer, and he felt a bit cold. The two did not dare to speak out and used their eyes to argue.

"You ask Master Yates what happened!"

"Mr. Sampson, you can't bully me like that. Since you who have worked with the CEO for many years, you dare not speak, how can I risk my life to do it?"

"You are the secretary, and this is your responsibility!"

"If I ask, maybe I will lose my job."

The ring of a mobile phone broke this suffocating silence. The secretary touched his pocket in a conditioned response. He had two mobile phones with him, both of which were not his. He didn't take his own since it could not be turned on during working hours. The two of them were working phones of Stuart, but usually picked up by him.

The secretary looked and then shook his head to Mr. Sampson, indicating that it was not his. The mobile phone of Mr. Bates was also turned off. The eyes of the two of them carefully moved to Stuart.

There was also a mobile phone with Stuart himself, which had a private number which only a few people knew. Stuart seemed to be aware of their gaze. He slowly opened his indifferent eyes and glanced at the two people.

They quickly removed their eyes, looking around and pretending to be careless. They secretly observed the actions of Stuart from the corner of their eyes. Stuart took out a black mobile phone, and it turned out that it was this phone that was ringing.

It was a pity that both of them are sitting far away and couldn't see the name on the screen. Stuart's slender fingers crossed the screen and picked up. "Hello."

The beep sounded for a long time, and Edie was a little bit distracted. She didn't quite react to the sudden response of getting through. "Hello? S… Stuart, why did you leave?" Edie said with a little panic. Then she wanted to bite her tongue after she finished.

Was it necessary for Stuart to report to her when he was leaving? They were not a real couple. He would undoubtedly ridicule her. She didn't expect that Stuart would not tease with as usual and just asked, "Is there something you need?"

Edie listened to his voice and lowered her head, asking, "When did you come back? Why did you come to the Movie Entertainment as soon as you come back?"

"Business." The answer was brief. It turned out to be business. She thought that he came to look for her. She was really overthinking. Edie was a little disappointed, but she concealed it well.

"Well... you just fell, are you injured? I heard them say it was very loud..."

"It doesn't matter." Stuart said and seemed to realize he was too cold and added, "I was not injured. I am okay."

"You are going to the company now? I will wait for you at home this evening. I will see you then."

Edie knew his character. Even if he were injured, he would definitely not tell her. She couldn't be assured if she didn't see it with her own eyes. It was not good if he was really injured because of her.

The word "homemade" Stuart move slightly, and the cold eyes recovered a little warmth. Then he faintly hummed. Mr. Sampson was not sure if it was an illusion. After hanging up the phone, the atmosphere around Stuart was not so cold. It was like the melting of snow and ice. His eyes were even a little warmer and almost seemed like they were glowing.

Even the secretary noticed that the atmosphere had changed and he took out the notebook and tentatively said, "Mr. Yates, there is a video conference in an hour later..."

"Go to the company." After that, Stuart closed his eyes and had a rest.

Hanging up the phone, Edie was still worried about the injury of Stuart. She went straight to the nearest pharmacy to buy medicine. The pharmacist asked her, "What are the symptoms?"

"They are... he caught a person who fell from a three-meter-high place, and then his back or his spine made a loud noise; apparently it sounded like a crack....."

Before she finished, the pharmacist frowned, "How can he be so careless? The gravity of a person falling from a height is very high. Is it the spine that is injured. Hurting his bones is easy. It would be better if he were to go to the hospital to have an X-ray."

Edie's face was immediately pale, "So serious?"

"What do you think? It is easy to leave a hidden danger of being lower-half-paralyzed by being injured on the spine. Edie thought about Stuart's face that refused to be close to anyone and was a little disappointed. "Well, what if that person is not willing to go to the hospital?"

The pharmacist had been working for so many years and had seen lots of strange people, knowing that some people would instead take medicine and didn't want to go to the hospital. He curled his lips and took out two bottles of medical cream from behind the counter and complained, "You are young and don't pay attention to your health at all. Go back and check if the spine has a misalignment or if any sharp joints are sticking out when you touch it. If there isn't, apply this cream on the back."

Edie was relieved. She paid for the medicine and left. She was thinking that Stuart had been injured heavily for saving her, so she must thank him after he came back tonight. She was absentminded and slammed into a man's arms when she walked to the door.
