12 Chapter 12: Hook Up

When Edie woke up the next morning, Stuart had already left. As she finished her breakfast, Mr. Sampson was already standing by her side. He said respectfully, " Mrs. Yates, the driver, is waiting for you." Edie was startled, "driver?"

Mr. Sampson observed Edie's facial expression, surmised her thoughts, and asked, "Mrs. Yates, is there a problem?" "Why do I need a driver?" she asked. "Mrs. Yates, the Villa is in the upper east, and it takes half an hour to get to the city, going to work may be inconvenient for you. Master Yates assigned you a driver to take you to work and pick you up after work."

Edie was shocked and speechless. She is just going to work, and there is no need to make a big fuss over it. She is not Stuart. "So, the driver will be waiting for me in the car while I work? That's ridiculous." Mr. Sampson made a respectful bow, "Yes, Mrs. Yates, everything is arranged."

Edie waved her hand and said, "No, I'm under a lot of stress at the thought of someone waiting for me." She does not have Stuart's conventional ways, and she is not used to commanding others.

Mr. Sampson was a little baffled, Edie sensed it and pondered for a second. Her refusing would definitely cause trouble for Mr. Sampson since this is his job. She thought over and said, "I can drive myself; I don't need a driver; it's too much of a big deal."

As Edie made her mind up, Mr. Sampson took out a set of car keys and passed them to her using both his hands. "This is the car that Master Yates prepared for you." Edie took them and saw the red Lamborghini logo on it, and she almost threw the car keys away out of shock. "No, I can't drive this car."

"So Mrs. Yates, you don't like the Lamborghini? There are many other cars in the garage, you can choose yourself," Mr. Sampson said with confusion. Edie didn't know how to explain, Mr. Sampson had misunderstood her entirely. She's only an unknown actress, driving a Lamborghini to work would be saying she's being supported by a sugar daddy.

According to Stuart's lifestyle, Edie knew the cars in the garage must have all been luxury cars without looking. "Is there a… cheaper, more ordinary car?" she asked. Mr. Sampson pondered for a second, then asked tentatively, "Master Yates' cars may not be able to meet your requirements, Master Todd's ORV Grand Cherokee is parked in the garage, maybe you can drive his car?"

Does an ORV Grand Cherokee have anything to do with ordinary and cheap? However, in comparison to a Lamborghini, Edie did not hesitate to choose the ORV. Although it was the cheapest car in the garage, it was also the best car that Edie had ever driven. As she drove down the road, her mind started to wander. The more contact she had with Stuart, the more questions she had in mind. Who is Stuart? Her "fake husband" seemed to be a bigwig. Is she messing with the wrong guy?

Edie worked in The Star Entertainment, an entertainment corporation that could only be counted as midsized in the city. Edie was discovered by scouts and joined the company when she was still in college. Edie parked the car in the underground parking lot and took out her phone to find countless missed calls from Melissa. Crap, Edie said in her mind. Melissa is her roommate. Edie hasn't returned home for two nights in a row, and she must be worried.

Edie called back immediately, and the phone was picked up after one ring. "Edie! You've got guts! Not attending the cocktail party the day before and not even coming back home yesterday! Where the fuck was you! I haven't had a single phone call from you, and I thought you were dead!" Melissa's shout penetrated through the phone.

"Please, don't be mad," Edie comforted her, she knew the reason Melissa worried so much was that she cared about her, "I… I met someone, it's complicated…." Edie said reluctantly. "Edie Lara! You are not getting involved with that jerk Donald again, are you?!" As Edie stuttered, Melissa immediately guessed she was hiding something from her. They have known each other for over eight years, the only thing worth hiding from her could only be about Donald.

When she heard that name, Edie's heart ached and quickly said, "No, it has got nothing to do with him, it's something else. It's complicated, let's have dinner together tonight. I'll tell you then.

With so many novel twisting events happening in the past few days, it is tough to explain." "I was so worried that I nearly called the police! Can you pay the bill for me tonight?" asked Melissa.

Edie's heart was touched when she heard how much Melissa cared about her, "Of course, the bill is on me, I'll pick you up after work tonight," said Edie. She was shocked to hear that Edie had a car, "pick me up? Since when did you get a car?" It was a long story, but for now, Edie could only say, "I'll tell you tonight." She reluctantly agreed, the two chatted for a few more minutes then hung up the phone.

Edie walked into the company building, the reception greeted her, "Hi Edie, haven't seen you in a long time." Edie nodded with a smile, yes, indeed it has been a long time since she had been to the company. There are no check-in systems for actors or actresses in the company since everyone's busy filming. Edie doesn't come to the company at all if there's nothing significant. She's only coming today because her agent told her last week to come and have a look at the new script.

She went straight to Danny's office on the third floor, "Coming," Danny said. As Edie walked in, she discovered two tall, pretty ladies standing in the office. Upon her arrival, the two ladies sized her up and looked away scornfully. Edie felt uncomfortable being sized up like that, and she said straight to Danny, "Danny, I'm here to look at the script."

Danny nodded and said to the two girls, "you can leave now. I'll keep you posted on any updated news." The two girls nodded, one of the girls deliberately bumped Edie in the shoulder when leaving, probably because she thought Edie was the reason Danny drove them away.

If Stuart were here, he would have recognized the girl. She was the model named Fifi; he embarrassed yesterday. Edie was knocked back two steps by her when she was just about to respond, Fifi had already left. She frowned to Danny and said, " What kind of person is that? How rude!"

Danny adjusted his glasses, "She's a model wanting to move up the ladder and be an actress. She hooked up with Todd Anderson recently, which is the reason why she's acting so high and mighty." Edie had no idea who he was, "Todd Anderson? Who is that?"

"You don't even know who Todd Anderson is? He's the son of Anderson Family Jewellery. He invested in a television series in the name of the model who had just left, and the only requirement was for her to be the leading role." Danny poked three fingers out. "Three million?" gasped Edie.

"No, Thirty million, could Todd Anderson possibly spend that much money?" Danny sighed. "The showbiz often deals with the upper class, how come you don't know any of them? I guess even if you met Stuart Yates, you would not react to him."

Edie was confused when she heard Stuart's name. "Is Stuart Yates a bigwig?" Edie asked deviously. She doesn't know much about this man, except that he's tremendously rich.

Danny rolled his eyes, "More than a bigwig, he is the heir of the L.N. Group, the whole city will shake if he stomps his foot.

However, if you want to hook up with him, you better give up. Stuart Yates hates a woman jumping on him. You might as well hook up with Todd, and if he gets tired of the model, you might be the next lucky one."

Danny would have never expected, not only did she know Stuart, she is his wife. Edie looked at Danny in anger, "Aren't we a proper entertainment company, why are you encouraging me to find a sugar daddy?" A sneer emerged on Danny's fine-featured face, which made him look gayer. "Don't look down on those girls. How long have you been acting? Have you ever had a leading role? There are beautiful girls everywhere in showbiz if you have nothing unique to offer, why should anyone put their effort into you?"

Edie stopped talking, and they have different opinions, there's no point in arguing with Danny over this. Danny gloated as he thought Edie was persuaded. He took out a script from the drawer and threw it on the table, "Here you go, it wasn't easy to get you the audition, "Knight-Errant," don't let me down."
