41 Just Visiting

There is something I must do. I can't just have a peek at such important information about transmigrators and whatnot without doing anything. This calls for a guardian meeting!

As much as he is unreliable concerning magic, I think the old ghost might still be my best bet on that one.

[Alright you guys. Onward toward the old ghost's place!]

And then I start walking and they follow me. Then I stop and they stop a few paces behind me.

"What is it, teacher?"

[I mean I have no idea where he lives, why are you guys the ones following me?]

"Oh, that's true! This bear forgot!"

[By the way, why did you stop whispering? It's a good thing I'm just curious.]

"Well, teacher, the lesson you just gave us made me reflect on myself. Being silent at all times is a great idea but maybe I need more flexible ways to hide too."

[Oh? What do you mean by that?]

"That…I'm actually not sure. I get the feeling there is a whole world of possibilities that only awaits me. But sadly I have no clue what it is or how to get there. Do you have any advice teacher?"

[None. Just take your time and go at your own rhythm. Finding your own path is always good. I believe in you!]

"HEHE, teacher believes in me!"

He is cheerful.

"T-that…what about me teacher? Do you believe in this tiger too?"

He is worried.

[Of course, otherwise I wouldn't have accepted you as my disciple. Don't you think?]

"Ah! Of course! HEHE, teacher believes in me too!"

"It's great, isn't it! Haha!"

The more I interact with these guys the more I notice something.

I might be completely useless, or close to, but I can still do something. I can be their emotional support. The one to encourage them from the sidelines.

Of course, my role will always remain minimal. I am not crazy enough to believe otherwise. But it does bring me joy to see them so happy. Happy for a reason most wouldn't even consider valid.

It reminds me of an old internet friend that I used to have. Back when I started my own business, he was the one to encourage me. Everyone was telling me how dumb it was for me to start my greenhouse. I even indebted myself to afford it.

I knew I had a gift for that already. But I still wasn't ready to take the last big step. I was remaining in the status quo. Barely living via a part-time job. Part of me was scared of something as big. Part of me was comfortable in the current situation.

All he did was give some moral support. Told me to go for it. After making sure I had a plan of course, and that I did, a very carefully crafted one.

He checked it and told me the truth. That deep down I truly wanted to accomplish this. That otherwise I wouldn't have given so much thought to the project.

He turned out to be absolutely right. I quickly repaid all the loans and started making a steady profit. Enough to easily live my life comfortably.

If anything this is what I can be to these two. The fake wise master that is there to believe in them.

We keep walking for a while in silence. Me thinking, them just smiling. At some point, we reach a clearing with in the middle a large tree stump.

In the very center is inserted an elegant blue and silver sword, adorned with a few jewels. Somehow it doesn't feel opulent in any way. One could simply describe it as a work of art. Yet it exudes power. A sharpness that is unparalleled. A tool for killing.

What kind of thing is this? Is the chosen one supposed to draw it? This reminds me of a game…. Will there be a catchy jingle when that happens? Ta-da-da-da!

[So, what exactly are we doing here?]

The tiger points toward the sword. Am I supposed to try and get it? Will I become king if I manage to? Of course not haha. I wouldn't even know how to use one.

"This is the old ghost's sword!"

[So why are we here, and why is his sword here randomly? Shouldn't it be with him or at his place?]

"Ah, teacher, this is his place!"

[This clearing?]

"No, this sword."

[He lives in a sword?! Ha, he is a ghost. Is he haunting it?]

"Something along the lines."

"This bear thinks so too."

There is obviously no doorbell on a sword. Neither is there a door for that matter. Do I just knock on it? Then again it looks really sharp. There is always the flat side, but even then, I'm really not sure about the etiquette to respect here. Do I just call him? Do I wait for him to come out and welcome us?

[So what are we supposed to do to meet him?]

"This tiger doesn't know."

"This bear doesn't know either."

[I don't know. Now what?]

They look unsure.

[Hello old ghost! Are you there?!]

No answer. Is he perhaps not home? Do I just leave a message? Ah…he won't be able to read English I bet.

[You guys know any way to leave a message by any chance?.]

"I don't."

"I don't either."

Could you imagine writing directly on his tree stump? Would that count as the destruction of property? Graffiti perhaps? Yeah, I don't know.

[You guys want to play rock paper scissor or something?]

"What's that?"

"Can I play too?!"

[So here is how the game works *Omitted*]

Unsurprisingly they both suck at this. They are way too easy to read. I play a few times, but then I get bored. Meanwhile, they keep going. Being boisterous and having fun. I wonder how long we'll have to …

"Why are you guys disturbing the peace of my home?!"

Ah! There he finally is!

Floating above the sword.

I'm not exactly sure where he came from exactly.

Alright, time to get some answers out of him!
