68 Stealing from the Armory

Ace, who had been useless this entire time, finally chimed in. "Since you took the gem, I assume you inherited the powers of the gem. You showed some of your powers before you fainted. Try to visualize what you did then and regain that feeling."

"Eh~ okay, let me try it out!" Rin sat cross legged on the ground as he breathed deeply.

Everyone watched him eagerly as they were intrigued by what power he had. Five minutes later, nothing had happened and they suddenly heard a loud snore coming from Rin.

Light gently slapped Rin, waking him up. He didn't blame Rin too much as he was just 10 years old and being pressured to use a mysterious power to save them all when he just woke up was a little much. He opened his mouth and was about to propose a different idea when suddenly a dark shadow spread across the ground with Rin as the origin.

As the dark shadow spread, Rin melted into the darkness around him. "Wha??"

"Brother!!" Yukio called out, frightened.

Then Rin re-emerged from the darkness. "Haha! That was so much fun!!"

Cautiously walking up to pat Rin, Light asked, "What just happened there?"

"It's my new ability brother! I can merge and travel through shadows now! Hehe~ aren't I cool?" Rin said proudly. Somehow, he was able to intuitively sense how to use his power.

Ace nodded vehemently with wide eyes. One could see the envy within them.

Rin continued to play around with the power, disappearing and reappearing in various places. Light watched on with interest as he contemplated something.

Rin seemed to be able to control the general direction of his travel, but was unable to be precise with it. He speculated that with practice, Rin would be able to travel with much better accuracy but, for now, they would have to make do.

Tossing a cup towards Rin, Light called out, "Catch!"

"Eh?" Turning around, Rin saw there was a cup coming at him as he was disappearing into a shadow. Catching the cup, he continued to disappear into the shadow and then reappeared a meter away from Light.

Whining while rolling on the floor, he asked, "Why'd you throw something at me brotherr"

Placing a hand on his head to calm him down, Light explained, "I needed to test whether you were able to bring things with you in and out the shadow. Now, can you bring me along with you while you travel?"

"I thinkk soo" Rin stretched out his words as he responded, clearly thinking about something. Then he put his hands and slowly pulled them apart while concentrating. The movement was slow as though it took a lot of effort. As he continued to pull his arms apart, the shadow beneath him grew proportionally. Soon, it was large enough to fit both Rin and Light and they both dropped into the shadow, but quickly reappeared just across the room.

Rin was lying on his back gasping for air as though he had run a marathon. It appears that while traversing the shadows was not strenuous for Rin at all, in order to bring animate objects along with him took a lot of power.

Nodding in confirmation, Light went to grab a bar for Rin to eat and recover while beginning to map out a plan. He requested that Ace bring up a blueprint of the dormitory and hack into the security systems so that they would have eyes outside. Lately, Ace had been resistant towards communicating at all with Light, but due to the stakes, he compromised for the sake of saving Aida.

Consolidating all the information, Light determined the best course of action. His plan would place Rin in some danger, but it was the solution with the best likelihood of success. Thankfully, Ace was able to hack into the systems with ease so they would be able to monitor Rin every step of the way through the cameras.

Rin was able to recover enough of his energy during this time. His goal was to reach the armory and "borrow" some weapons.

Taking in a deep breath, he slowly submerged himself into the shadows. The others watched with wide eyes as they saw the shadow merge with the shadows cast by the sunlight and disappear.

"Ah shoot!" exclaimed Light, "I forgot to ask him how long he can stay within the shadow. Hopefully he'll be okay."

"Brother will be fine." Yukio stated firmly. He had gotten a lot more mature over the past couple weeks.

Nodding in agreement, they all stared intently at the laptop screen, looking out for Rin. Occasionally, they would point at a figure and yell, "There!" Everyone would turn their attention to the screen only to realize that they were mistaken.

Rin was very fortunate that the skill of travelling through shadows used very little energy. It's energy usage was akin to Aida's scan ability. There were cheat skills in a sense because the 5 meter limitation on powers didn't hinder his progress at all. The building's hallways were filled with shadows so he was able to progress very smoothly through. Due to a lack of finer control, he did tend to overshoot and be forced to retrace his steps.

Eventually, he reached the armory. There were two guards standing there, one was holding a gun while on his phone texting while the other was leaning against the wall snoring.

Laughing evilly in the shadows, Rin entered the room and emerged from the shadows. He quickly grabbed guns, stun guns and a couple other materials before submerging himself back into the shadows and heading back to the room. The two bored guards were none the wiser.

Light and the others were watching very carefully and noticed Rin's reappearance which was caught on camera. Fortunately, they had an ace hacker onsite who helped him cover his tracks.
