39 Rin Disappears

Ace and Light blinked in astonishment. Light quickly deduced, "The anesthesia in Aida must have somehow been transmitted to Xiao Ai as well when they made contact."

Ace nodded, "Looks like we will have to stay here for a little while longer while we wait for them to wake up. We should be safe here. Since there is enough food and water to last us awhile, we can make this our temporary base."

Thinking this, Ace sat down and took out his laptop. He began typing away furiously on the keyboard, ignoring the surroundings.

Light did not nod his head in agreement, he wasn't too sure about Ace's judgement. Based on their life in the apocalypse so far, nothing seemed to go as planned and the likelihood of them remaining safe anywhere was low. Nevertheless, Light also went back to eating his breakfast. There was nothing they could do right now as they were going to have to wait for Aida and Xiao Ai to wake up.

On the side, Rin, who hated sitting still, began to fidget around. He went over to Ace and started bothering him, "Ace nii-san, what are you doing on your laptop? Can I play with it too? I'm so bored~"

Ace brushed Rin off and responded in a snappy tone, "Go play with your brother. I'm busy."

"Che~ no fun~" Rin responded, as he went away. He spent his entire life pestering his two brothers, so they were completely unaffected by him.

Seeing that there was nothing fun to do in the room, Ace began walking around the store. They had cleared out a lot of the area and moved the shelves so the van could be driven in, but there were still many rows on the other side of the store that were left intact.

Half an hour later, Light noticed that Rin had still not returned. Rin was an adventurous soul, so Light tried to restrict him as little as possible. He did not want to stifle Rin's personality. Instead, they compromised and set a rule that Rin would have to check back in every half hour no matter what.

Waiting another 5 minutes, Light began to get worried. He asked Ace to watch Aida and got up to look for Rin. Yukio quietly followed behind Light like a shadow, he was also worried about his brother.

The store was only so big, so the likelihood of something having happened to Rin was large. While he liked to be active, he understood boundaries and would never foolishly walk outside without getting permission from Light first.

As they ventured through the first row, Light saw nothing out of the place. Light quietly walked down, preparing to react to any kind of danger. He did not smell blood, so was fairly certain that Rin was not injured.

The first aisle was intact, so he rounded the corner to check the next aisle. Just as he did that, Yukio called out, "Brother!!"

"MM MMM!" Something appeared to be muffling Yukio's voice.

Turning around, he saw Yukio struggling against a tangle of webs and a gigantic black spider with a female human face. The spider was focused on bundling Yukio up in webs in an attempt to silence him.

Light immediately took out his gun and pointed it at the spider creature. Seeing the gun, the female spider quickly placed Yukio in front of her body and pointed one of her legs at Yukio's neck. She was threatening Light.

Seeing this, Light quickly grasped that she was intelligent. Light raised his arms to show that he wouldn't shoot and tried to negotiate, "Let him and his twin go, and we will also leave you unharmed."

The female spider ignored his words and began backing away while holding Yukio. During this entire process, Yukio did not appear scared at all. Instead, he was focused on escaping the grasp of the spider with little success.

Light was stuck in a difficult situation. He wanted to kill the spider but he couldn't guarantee that Yukio wouldn't get hurt and he still did not know where Rin went. Helpless, he watched as the female spider dragged the calm looking Yukio away.

This spider creature was clearly related to the one that they had previously killed. Light's initial thought was that this spider was intent on getting revenge, but seeing that it did not kill the twins on sight, it clearly had other plans.

After they moved out of the aisle, Light quickly ran over to see where they went but they were nowhere in sight! He cautiously ran through the entire store but still did not see the spider or the twins at all.

Confused and concerned, he ran back to Ace for backup.

"Ace!! There's another human spider here! It caught Yukio and I suspect it caught Rin too. I need you to back me up. We need to work together in order to kill it."

Closing his laptop with a crisp snap, Ace looked up with a face devoid of emotion and a cold aura. At that moment, he almost seemed like a different person. Light stared at this face in surprise, forgetting about the situation for a moment.
