67 Rin Awakens

After they were subdued, Light was sent back to his room with guards lined up in front of their door while Aida had been taken away by Peter back to his headquarters. It was clear what he planned to do with Aida, yet Light seemed to remain indifferent.

Right at this moment, Rin's eyes flashed open as he looked around blearily. He felt as though he had slept for a century. Looking around, he saw that he was in a strange room and felt extremely disoriented. The last thing he remembered was swallowing the gem and saving his big sis.

Yukio who was sitting on the side immediately noticed that Rin had woken up, "Brother!! Do you recognize me?"

Nodding his head, he whispered in a raspy voice, "Wa..ter.."

"Ok, let me go get it for you." Yukio quickly went to grab water.

Right then, Light was thrown into the room by the guards. The first thing Light noticed when he returned was that Rin was awake. Dashing to him, he asked, "Do you recognize me? Are you okay?"

This was the first time that Light, who was almost overtaken by darkness, had shown any response or interest towards anything. He didn't notice but the darkness surrounding him seemed to have receded ever so slightly as another hidden power seemed to be absorbing the darkness.

Rin took the water from Yukio, chugged it down and gestured for more water. Nodding, he responded playfully, "I'm good. You're my big brother dummy, why would you ask me that?"

Heaving a big sigh, Light was relieved Rin was okay yet somehow the anger within him did not entirely fade.

Taking the second cup of water from Yukio and gulping it down, he continued to ask, "Where's Big Sis? Is she okay?"

Just as Light was about to relax, his heart seized again. He finally recalled the scene of her being taken away. At this point, Yukio leaped onto Rin and began sobbing, "Brother, I really missed you. Big bro has been angry at big sis this entire time."

Light also responded, with difficulty, "Your….Aida…. Has been taken away."

'What?!?!" Rin leapt up from his seat and he screamed, "How is this possible??"

"Some people on base abducted your sister when she came to check on me. Ace is also laying in the med bay right now." responded Light, who was showing some amount of guilt for the first time since the incident.

"Waitwaitwait, I don't understand. Why are you mad at big sis? And how could big sis lose in a fight?"

Yukio looked down as he responded, "Big bro is mad because big sis didn't protect you properly. Big sis probably lost because her powers are gone."

"What?!" Rin's eyes blazed indignantly, not noticing that his pupils had turned black as he got agitated. "Big sis did protect me! She got beat up and injured so I wouldn't sustain any more injuries. I bet there was not an inch of her body that didn't hurt."

Looking down, he confessed, "It was my fault for being careless and jumping into her fight with the Reapers. She left me all the easy targets but I chose to fight the Reapers and then got hit."

"When she saw this, she got really angry and killed them all. But after she killed them, more came. She didn't back down even then. There were 5 Reapers and a whole mob of Enraged attacking us! I told her to leave me there and escape but instead she covered me with her own body to protect me and got really really hurt. It's all my fault."

Rin looked down with self blame and loathing.

Coughing, Ace crawled into the room at this time. The Variants at the medbay simply looked at him, slapped on a few bandaids and threw him back into their room. He limped towards the bed while saying, "It's more than just that. After Rin fainted from swallowing the gem, Master gave Rin all of her blood for healing and almost died in the process. Master was already severely injured but still focused all her energy on healing Rin. Why else do you think Master who is beautiful, amazing and OP, would get caught by those pieces of trash?!"

Light heard all this and was in a daze. 'She…actually did so much for Rin?'

"Why…?" Light asked out loud. The word lingered in the air for sometime.

"Now's not the time for why's stupid useless brother! Let's go save big sis now!!" Rin waved his hands emphatically. Yukio nodded like strongly in agreement as well.

While processing the information, something seemed to click within Light's mind. He felt as though the shackles that bound him for most of his life and the darkness and anger that had been brewing within him morphed into something else. However, now was not the time for him to process this information, his mind was fully focused on how to redeem himself and find a way to save Aida.

Light finally regained his calmness after overcoming the darkness. His mind quickly focused on the situation at hand, "Currently there are a number of guards outside who are going to keep us from leaving. We need to find a way to get out without them noticing."

"We aren't strong enough to overpower them. Rin, do you know what your superpower as a Variant is? That's going to be a big factor for what we end up doing."

"Hm.. I'm not too sure. How do I manifest my power?" Rin asked while thinking.
