203 Reaper Guards

Ignoring the female scientist's reaction, Lucifer immediately went into action. Manipulating the objects in the area, he bashed the man's head before dashing out the door. The guard's mask fell and revealed an indifferent expression. If Lucifer were to look back at this moment, he would realize that this was, in fact, a Reaper!

Focused on leaving the lab, Lucifer continued to make his way towards the door. Unfortunately, he didn't realize that these doors were security protected, but only from the inside. Anyone could walk in, but not many could leave.

Lucifer knew he didn't have much time before more guards came so he had to act fast. Turning to the female scientist, he ordered, "Let me out."

"N-n-no!" The female scientist screamed in fear of the presumed dead body. She was terrified that one of the supposed dead bodies they had just finished processing came back to life. Her eyes were shut tight so she didn't realize that Lucifer had no vacant cavity near his heart.

Realizing she wasn't in the right state of mind to help him, he began to search her body for the keys as the scientist continued to scream her lungs out. Soon, he found something that resembled a key and began to search for a place to insert it. Time was of the essence.

At that moment, the alarm suddenly sounded and flashes of red light shone everywhere. Lucifer could hear many footsteps rushing towards his location. He couldn't find the place to slip in the key so began to use his ability to force the doors open.

Slowly, the doors slid open inch by inch. His eyes and face had turned red from the effort and the focus on the task. Soon, the door was just wide enough for him to slip through. However, just as he took a step forward, someone from behind grabbed him and pushed him to the floor. He watched as the door slammed shut and his last chance to escape disappeared.

Growling in frustration, Lucifer turned to the guards with white masks and positioned himself to fight. He grappled the guard nearest him and dragged him to the floor. After taking down the first one, he focused on taking the next two down with his body while using his telekinetic abilities to hit the other guards with nearby trash cans and other items.

From the stairs, Noah watched this scene in interest. She didn't stop Lucifer from fighting the guards but instead continued to watch him use up all his strength. After an hour of fighting, Lucifer was panting in exhaustion but the guards were endless. He realized a few minutes into the battle that all the guards were Reaper and aimed his hits towards their hearts.

Seeing he was slowing down, Noah finally raised her arm indifferently and one of the guards shot him with a dart from behind. The dart had anesthetic properties and his vision dimmed as he struggled to keep his eyes open.

Right before he closed his eyes, he saw a pair of high heels standing before his face. Lucifer struggled as he looked up, he said to her, "You… won't… get away… Reapers…"

Noah simply chuckled at his futile attempt as she signalled the guards to carry him out of the lobby and to clean up the area. The female scientist on the side witnessed this entire scene with horror as she tried to make herself as small and invisible as possible. Unfortunately, Noah had no intention of allowing anyone to know that the guards were Reapers so the guards disposed of her as well.

Meanwhile, Artemis blearily opened his eyes as he felt his body being dragged on the ground like a broken rag. Having experienced a number of tribulations, he knew that he had to continue to pretend to be unconscious while determining the situation.

Soon, memories came back to him and he realized Aida and Xiao Ai had been caught. Cautiously looking at the surroundings and the guards, he confirmed that they were the same people who knocked him out.

Realizing that he was outnumbered, he enabled his ability and slipped out of the grasp of the guard. Then he rolled directly into the building nearby and disappeared.

The guards were dumbfounded by this occurrence and quickly went to search for him to no avail. By this time, Artemis was long gone.

Artemis hid in a storage unit, huddled in a corner. He bit his nail as he contemplated his options. Clearly, he was no match for the guards and wouldn't be able to break through.

After some time, he seemed to have made a decision and silently made his way towards the wall base. Perhaps he could save Aida's companions and get their help in breaking Aida out.

When he reached the base, he quickly realized that there the guards were on much higher alert. Keeping his head down with a hat covering most of his face, he tried to slip in with the rest of the crowd. Fortunately, the base was more guarded against people leaving than people entering.

Wandering around the base, he quietly listened to conversations from the nearby soldiers. He quickly overheard the news about the infected getting caught and being brought to a lab. This was in line with the information that Xiao Ai and Aida provided earlier on.

Tapping the shoulder of one of the soldiers, he asked, "Excuse me, can you point me to where the lab is?"

The soldier gave him a weird look before inquiring, "What do you need to go to the lab for?"

Artemis put on an innocent and puzzled face, "I'm new here and they assigned me to the lab. Is there something wrong with that?"

Hearing this, the soldier gave a big sigh and patted him on the soldier. "I'm so sorry man." Then he pointed towards the tall white building. "It's right there. Good luck."

With that, the soldier walked away. Artemis was confused by the soldier's reaction but shrugged it off, it didn't matter anyway.
