110 Ice Bed

Meanwhile, the others were fighting a bitter battle outside. Rin was particularly aggressive and focused as he mowed down Reaper after Reaper, unrelentingly stabbing each of them through the neck. He was extremely concerned for his twin brother and wanted to finish this fight as soon as possible.

Lucifer could be seen controlling a set of 10 nails as they flew around the battlefield, killing each Reaper with just a tiny hole through its head. Xiao Ai continually discharged electricity and kept all the Reapers stuck in place, while Little White flashed in and out of the field like a bright light.

Since Yukio seemed to have stabilized, Aida joined them out in the battlefield as well. She ran through the field and threw out tens of metal fragments imbued with lightning. Each metal fragment successfully lodged itself into a Reaper and burned them to death. Soon, the entire battlefield was filled with a burning smell. Aida looked like the Grim Reaperon the field, all she was missing was a scythe.

With her intervention, the battle quickly ended. Everyone was in awe of Aida's power but had no time to appreciate it. They quickly gathered the gems and returned to the RV.

Upstairs, Yukio remained unconscious as his power had finished running its course and he was beginning to heat up with a fever. Rose also noticed that the powers stopped wreaking havoc and had stopped channelling her energy into him to protect his organs. She simply sat there, staring at Yukio with a confused and somewhat angry expression.

Having returned to the room, Aida noticed her expression and pulled her onto her lap. "This is what family is about. We help each other and never give up. Your older brother Yukio has a fever. Can you help create an ice bed for him?"

Nodding while confused, she took the 20 buckets of ice that Ace had brought in and began manipulating it with her hands. Shortly after, she created a capsule like bed that could encase Yukio. Rose even thoughtfully added a headrest to it.

Aida nodded in appreciation. While Rose's facial expression didn't change, she clearly still cared a lot and was extremely meticulous. Light carefully picked Yukio up and placed him into the ice capsule and then continued to sit next to him, controlling his empathic powers to help Yukio with his transformation.

"How long will this ice bed last?"

Rose responded by stretching out her hand and showing 5 fingers.

"5 hours?"

She nodded in confirmation.

Hearing this, Aida was delighted. Rose's skills were so amazing! Picking Rose up, she went downstairs to give Light and the twins some space. It was all up to Yukio now on whether he would be able to merge the two powers.

As they went downstairs, the disgusting smell of burnt flesh reached her. She wrinkled her nose in disgust, this wasn't a suitable environment for Yukio to recover in. She asked Ace to drive them out of the city and into the outskirts.

As they drove out, Aida and the others sat atop the roof. They killed all the Reapers that charged towards the RV while Lucifer collected the gems. Rin remained in the room with his older brother, watching carefully over Yukio. Both their eyes were a deep red as if they had been crying. Rin, who was hugging Light, was exhausted and drifted off.

The next day, they continued on their journey. While passing through the city, they were extremely careful to avoid the base and other Variants. Ever since they learned about the notice for Lucifer's arrest, everyone was extremely cautious about where they travelled. Fortunately, with Ace's map, they were able to circumvent all the people.

After they parked, the night passed quietly but the tension was extremely high again as everyone worried over Yukio's state. Nobody was in the mood to chat or joke around. Everyone focused just on the task ahead without any conversation. Even the normally talkative Xiao Ai remained quiet during this time.

They continued the following days in the same manner. Light and Rin never left their brother's side as occasional flashes of green and white would appear on Yukio. Rose would stop by on occasion to renew the ice bed but never lingered in the room longer than necessary. The others continued to drive towards City M, battling Reapers while driving during the day and meditating during the night. They began to purposely avoid cities and bases to prevent unexpected events from popping up, and only killed Reapers while on the road.

During this time, Ace and Lucifer jointly took over the task of preparing meals. Both grown men were not very adept at cooking. The only thing Ace could prepare adequately was cereal. Fortunately, Lucifer was good at grilling meat, having gotten accustomed to doing stakeouts in the wilderness. It was only at this point in time that the others truly realized how fortunate they were to have Light on the team.

At the beginning, Light was so concerned about Yukio that he refused to even take a sip of water let alone eat. However, seeing this situation, Aida used her electricity and forcefully dragged Light out of the room, scolding him thoroughly. She reminded him that if he was in poor health, he wouldn't be able to help Yukio. He was also setting a very bad example for Rin who was looking to him for instructions on how to behave.

He had no right to be an irresponsible, moping brother. If he were the one in a coma, there's no way he would want the twins to react in the same manner he was. Recognizing his mistake, he silently bowed towards Aida and went back into the room with the two bowls of food, eating them ravenously.

Nodding her head in approval, she left. She was extremely concerned about Yukio as well and dearly wanted to sit in the room and watch over him, but knew that it would not set a good example. If she were the one in a coma, she would not want Xiao Ai or the others to have their lives come to a full stop just because of that.
