23 Factions

As she inserted the fork, a huge amount of energy entered her system. 13 kiloVolts of electricity coursed through her veins, and even electrically charged the air around her. Aida let go of the fork shortly after as she felt herself getting bloated with electricity.

Xiao Ai on the side saw the sparks of electricity flying around the air and floated over to eat up each piece of lightning. Seeing this, Aida allowed herself to continue to discharge more and more electricity to see what Xiao Ai's eating limits were.

In the end, she was dumbfounded. Somehow Xiao Ai never got full. Instead, she just got slightly bigger and rounder over time. This glutton!!

Doing a couple more tests on both herself and Xiao Ai, she realized that that both had essentially become a walking battery. Aside from converting food to energy as with most humans, they now also had the ability to convert electricity into energy and her energy into electricity.

She was sure that the changes to her body were more than just this, but there were more pressing matters to attend to.

Getting down to business, she began dishing out orders.

"Xiao Ai, is the internet still up? Help me search everything we can find on the virus and anything that is happening in the city. We need to understand the current situation as much as possible."

"Mm~"

"Ace, start consolidating all our food and water. Prioritize the high calorie foods and water. Yukio, you go help as well."

"Yes Master."

"Oh! Umm yes Master," Yukio responded cutely with a small bow.

"Light, tell me what's going on in the airport. I need to know what we are up against."

"Yes Master," Light echoed Ace's words as well.

"…" Aida was speechless as she noticed that Light and Yukio were quick to adopt the same odd manner of speech as Ace but chose to ignore it. Whatever made them happy, she didn't care too much about formalities.

Light explained that the airport had split into two factions. The science faction, which comprised of all the scientists, a small part of the police force, and most of the civilians who were initially waiting at the gate with them. The war faction was comprised mainly of police force who were heavier handed and a handful of civilians.

The impetus for the development of factions was the realization of imminent danger from the virus. Everyone tracking the news on the virus quickly realized they would not be rescued by the government and someone proposed they leave the airport and fight a route to safety. However, the scientists, who were not fighters, immediately denied the idea. They firmly believed they would be saved by the government due to their value, thus the scientists wanted to shelter in place till the government arrived.

At first, the divide wasn't so obvious. However, the war faction refused to sit quietly. Instead they acted swiftly and commandeered the armory. The war faction then went to confront the science faction with the intention to coerce the scientists to join them. While most of the scientists and people from the airport were not from the area, most of the police force had all their family members and friends infected. It was impossible for them to just give up on their friends and family so quickly. Since the scientists were the only hope to curing this virus, the war faction wanted to bring them along and have them continue researching the virus.

However, things did not go as planned. When the war faction confronted the science faction, they soon realized the science faction were not as helpless as they anticipated. The scientists had collected most of the food in the airport, and each of the leaders held a bottle of the infected blood as assurance. They were confident they would be able to break the blood vial before the war faction could hurt them.

The two factions were at an impasse. Everyone was in arms and ready to fight when, suddenly, Randy stepped out and mediated between the two factions. Calling for the two groups to engage in friendly trade and not contribute to diminishing the already limited human population.

Randy was the man who Aida encountered when she was accused of bringing a bomb into the airport. Aida had a slight impression of him since he handled the situation well. She nodded to herself in confirmation, he was indeed someone with a background.

After this incident, both factions decided to keep a truce temporarily. At this point, the trio decided to leave the faction they had joined. They preferred to act alone, and nobody wanted to accept a person bring two kids along as extra baggage. (That's because they didn't know how capable those two kids were.)

"What happened to all the infected bodies outside? Are they all still sedated?" Aida inquired.

"That... I am not too sure, but seeing as none have broken into the airport, I assume they are all still out there sleeping." responded Light uncertainly.

Hearing the summary of the situation, Aida leaned back and closed her eyes, drumming her fingers against the ground as she considered their options. She thought, 'If only I had a layout of the airport, then perhaps we could map out a route.'

Right then, a holographic screen popped up in front of her eyes with the map of the airport.
