176 Escaping Yellow Base

Rin once again snuck outside with his shadow powers and checked the surrounding. "There are 10 guards outside and the only way out is the elevator which requires a key."

Lucifer's face turned grim. This pretty much validated Light's concerns about this base. There should be no reason for the base leader to require so many people to guard their room unless it was to prevent them from leaving. The only thing that confused him was why the base leader was so intent on keeping them in the first place?

He went to the window and peeked out. There were only two exits to the room, through the door or out the window. They were on the 45th floor, so it wasn't a viable option. The only way out was the door.

"We'll wait till they bring us dinner and use that window of time to leave," said Lucifer.

Having been through so many battles, they had long grown accustomed to these sudden situations. No one panicked and instead meditated in preparation for the next battle. Poor Seven seemed to be suffering from a panic attack so Light used his powers to sedate his emotions.

Dinner time soon came around and five armed guards knocked on the door, "Our base leader would like to meet you for dinner."

Lucifer nodded to the others before taking the lead to open the door. As they stepped out of the room, the guards immediately surrounded them like they were VIPs or criminals as they walked towards the elevator. Light asked in a frivolous tone, "Where'd the pretty ladies go?"

Charlie glared at him and said in a clipping tone, "They're busy."

As they got to the elevator, everyone held their breath as they watched the guard press the buttons. Thankfully, the guard pressed the ground floor. They all secretly let out a breath of relief. Of the group, only Rin had a physical ability that could allow him to escape easily in high places but he couldn't carry many other people along with him. This meant that if they continued to stay in this high rise, they would remain in a disadvantageous position.

Night had fallen as they exited the building. As they walked through the base, there was no person in sight. Apparently, there was a curfew instated at the base. The vibe of the entire place seemed to turn from cheerful to ominous. Seven looked around warily, clearly spooked by the emptiness. They continued to walk across the base and towards the outskirts of the base with all the guards surrounding them.

Using the cover of darkness, Light signalled to Rin before abruptly stopping in his tracks. He turned towards Charlie and asked in a demanding tone, "Where are we going for dinner? This seems a bit far."

Charlie again responded in a clipping tone, "Enough questions, you'll find out when you get there. Now get moving."

"Okay okay, calm down," Light raised his hands in a gesture of compliance. Unbeknownst to the guards, Rin had merged himself into the darkness and went ahead of them.

Light casually glanced towards Ace which was his cue. Ace nodded before he began to yelp in pain, "Owowowowow, I hurt my ankle."

Ace stared pitifully at the guards as he sat on the ground, rubbing his ankle. Yukio went over and began to "check" on Ace as all the guards had exasperated looks on their faces.

Yukio said in an official tone, "I'm a healer. It looks like he somehow dislocated his bone, let me heal him first."

Yukio and Ace began stalling for time as they secretly waited for Rin's return. Just as the guards were starting to get impatient, Rin quietly reappeared behind Light and slipped a piece of paper into his hands before disappearing again.

Light kneeled down besides Ace to conceal the paper as he secretly read the content. There was only one word written on it, "RUN!"

His eyes turned grim as he saw this note from Rin, he must've seen something horrifying. Using a military signal to gesture towards Lucifer and Yukio, he calmly stood up while bringing Ace up with him as well. The guards were impatient and began walking again. As soon as they turned their back to the group, Lucifer immediately controlled the Reaper nails and shot them straight through the guard's hearts, killing 5 of them in an instant.

Rin reappeared from the darkness and slit the throats of two of them while Light used his ability to trap the last three as Lucifer finished them off. Seven was stunned by the sudden actions, "W-w-what just happened?"

The twins dragged the two deadweights (Ace and Seven) towards the entrance where their RV was located. Lucifer quickly searched the bodies while Light helped drag them into a dark alleyway so they would be less obvious.

They had to move quickly to escape before anyone noticed their absence or the guard's dead bodies. It was very fortunate that there was a curfew so no one would witness their actions and call for help.

Light and Lucifer quickly caught up to the others as the two deadweights finally snapped out of their stupor and began pulling their own weight. When they finally reached the entrance, they saw that the main gates had closed. The walls were not super tall, but they were covered in spikes which would prevent anyone from climbing them. For the few open areas that were not walled off, there was an electrical fence installed instead.

"I'll go over and see if there's anything I can do on the other side. You guys stay safe." Rin said before disappearing into the darkness.

Light called out in a loud whisper, "Wait! No! It could be dangerous." However, Light responded too late and Rin had already gone to the other side.

Helpless, he shook his head and looked around instead. The area near the wall was an open area with no place to hide. There were also no footholds for them to climb over the wall either. Whoever designed this clearly didn't want anyone from the inside escaping out, which was suspicious in itself. It made sense to want to keep people from entering, but why also leaving?

Soon after, Rin returned with his report. "Our RV is still outside and intact and the coast is clear, there's no one in sight."
