174 Country Bumpkin

Going back to Light and the others, they had reached Yellow Base after half a day of driving. It was slightly further away from City M than Orange Base, but closer to City N.

On the drive over, they squeezed as much information from Seven as they could. Apparently, the base was run by a mega billionaire who was so distracted by his mistress, he missed the window to evacuate the city. He was one of the first to get infected in the city as his mistress was one of the carriers.

He woke up after the city fell to the virus and came out of hiding after discovering that he had the ability to heal himself. No matter how egregious the wound, it would still heal itself over time. Realizing that he was an undying man, he recklessly ran around town with hero syndrome. Most of the people he saved had yet to turn into infected at the time. With his inhuman abilities and charisma, he managed to rally many people around him and became their base leader not long after.

While the Yellow Base was weaker, they were greater in number than Orange or Green Base. Yellow base also had far more skilled workers which was critical in improving the infrastructure and day to day operations of the base. They had many scientists, engineers, farmers, architects and cooks which allowed them to develop their base much faster than the other Rainbow bases. This was their main leverage.

Seven explained that the other bases would occasionally trade resources and gems for knowledge or manpower from Yellow Base, which enabled it to thrive. However, Yellow Base very rarely sent others out and they would only ever interact with the same few people.

Light nodded on the side, this was a sign of a good businessman. He was able to leverage his strengths to extort from others. This was what he would've done as well in the same situation.

Noticing Seven's appreciation for the view outside, he brought Seven up up to the second floor and allowed him to sit at the viewing seats where he could get a full view of their drive. The twins kept an eye on him as they continued studying.

With their renewed understanding of Yellow Base, Light and Lucifer went downstairs and began to plan. Light opened the conversation, "If this man is like me, he will want a lot in return for his help."

Lucifer agreed and asked, "So what should we do?"

Light responded, "Gather as much information as we can and prepare."

Lucifer went to Ace and took over driving while Light and Ace began to plan. They were going to begin studying the network activity and find as much information as they could.

To their surprise, there was nothing but compliments for the base leader. Everyone on the base seemed to idolize him to the extreme. His actions and everything seemed to indicate that he was the perfect person. However, they all knew that he couldn't possibly be so clean. Afterall, he ended up being stuck here because of a mistress.

The network system was far more advanced than what he had expected. Ace explained that once they got onto the base, he could dig up more information but there was nothing he could do from outside.

In the end, they simply chose to send the base leader an email in advance and ask if he was willing to ally himself with them.

As they reached the entrance of Yellow Base, they noticed there were walls surrounding the area in addition to multiple gates leading up to the actual entrance of the base. All the Reapers and Enraged in the area had already been cleared out and the few stragglers were immediately cleared by the guards. There were only a few guards walking around the perimeter who nodded with a friendly smile and waved at them before letting them in.

As they drove through the checkpoints and finally made it to the entrance, there were two young women standing by the gates ready to greet them. Both bowed as Lucifer and Light got off first to check on the situation. One of the women took the lead, "Welcome to Yellow Base, our base leader has been waiting for you."

Everyone but Seven was slightly unnerved by the sight. This greeting was a far cry from their previous experiences with the bases. Usually, they were met with extreme hostility and a lot of killing intent. However, at this base, everyone seemed oddly friendly and relaxed as if they had never experienced the pain and suffering that all the others from the outbreak had. Rin and Yukio, who had been tense and ready for a fight, slowly relaxed their positions.

With Light's confirming nod, they all stepped off the RV along with Seven and followed the two women into the base. The RV was left parked outside and wasn't allowed to enter.

This base was located at the outskirts of the city. It centered around the high rise building that their base leader formerly owned before the outbreak. As they looked around the base, it almost seemed to have the usual bustle of a city before the outbreak. There were people working everywhere while chatting, people lining up at stores and children running around on the streets.

Seven, who had never really been outside, was in awe, his jaw almost seemed to touch the floor as he admired the usual hustle and bustle of city life. He said, "Yellow Base is amazing."

The two women who were guiding them giggled when they saw him acting like a country bumpkin, "Our base leader has managed the outbreak and allowed everyone to live their usual happy lives here. We have no lack of meat for meals and even the kids get to go to school every day."

Everything here looked great yet there seemed to be something missing. Light observed everyone at the base and quickly realized that nobody seemed to be using their abilities. Everyone who was infected ended up with some kind of ability, so it was odd to see that none of the people here were exhibiting any kind of ability at all.

None of the others seemed to notice this, but they did notice that everyone seemed to stare at them as they walked towards the high rise. The two women leading them explained, "Don't mind the stares, they're just not used to seeing strangers around here.Your clothes make you stand out."

They all nodded in acknowledgement before continuing to observe the surroundings. Not long after, they reached the entrance of the high rise. The two women brought them all the way up to the top floor where there were four security guards dressed in black suits guarding the entrance.
