129 Counter Ambush

Despite knowing this, his job was to stall for time, so after waiting a moment, he continued to ask other questions. "How's the government doing? Have there been any interesting discoveries on the virus? Is there any juicy gossip you can share with someone about to be captured?"

Everyone listening was speechless. Lucifer sounded more like he was meeting with an ex rather than getting captured by the government. Sure, he was stalling for time, but did he have to make it sound so absurd?

The government representative continued to answer the questions meticulously, attempting to entice Lucifer to give himself up. "We have stabilized the government and infrastructure for now and restored order. Don't you want to go back to civilization? This place is so awful, even worse than the slums. If you still have any family, we could provide them with visitation hours."

Thankfully, the government representative seemed intent on bringing Lucifer in alive, so he was willing to humor Lucifer's questions. His distracting speech allowed Aida and the others to successfully get behind the armored tanks. While the government military was well protected from the front, the back was wide open with people running around and standing casually.

Aida shook her head at their casual attitude. They clearly allowed their arrogance to get to their heads.

As she continued to observe the group carefully, she quickly realized that everyone there was human. This meant the government had specifically sent these people out for Lucifer. The tube must have been vitally important to the government to risk their personnel like this.

Aida spoke into her comms, "Everyone check back in. Counter ambush is in place."

"RV is in place," responded Ace.

Lucifer grinned when he heard this and the government man with the speakerphone had a bad feeling. He immediately stood up and began shouting orders to the 50 humans he had with him. Meanwhile, Lucifer casually waved at them before having Rin pull Lucifer into the shadows. They disappeared together.

The government representative was stunned by this scene. He had read various reports of the outbreak producing many spectacular powers but this was a new one. As a strategist, he immediately recognized the value of having this kind of ability. The kid was practically the perfect assassin.

This line of thought made him hesitate for a split second, causing him to lose the chance to shoot at the two.

Aida took this time to begin their counter ambush. Everyone immediately went into action. Little White removed the camouflage and began attacking the tanks with his light beams. Every attack he made formed a deep cut on the tank. He was in charge of opening the tanks.

Xiao Ai sat on his shoulder. She guided him to sustain attacks against the tanks while simultaneously releasing an electric current to keep the others outside from moving.

Aida and Light were on the ground, disabling and/or killing each of the men as quickly as possible. They leverage the surprise element and Xiao Ai's numbing current to create opportunities. Light and everyone else on the team had long grown accustomed to wearing rubber boots so that they wouldn't get affected by Xiao Ai's AOE attacks.

As they continued to plow through the people, Aida tossed Xiao Ai a couple grenades. Floating up to receive them, she casually unlatched them and threw them into the tanks that Little White had successfully opened.

"Bye bye~", she called out as the men in the tanks were brutally murdered.

Aida who heard this faltered slightly, what had her daughter become?!

It was a fairly one-sided battle since they had the element of surprise. The government representative had no time to respond to their attacks in a suitable manner.

Aida passed down her orders to everyone on her side, "Kill everyone but leave the leader. I have some questions for him."

On the other side, Rin had dragged Lucifer into the shadows and were waiting patiently. Aida and the others could confirm that he was successful based on the static noise coming from their radios. The shadow space was contained in a different dimension, so the radio frequencies couldn't reach them from within.

Rin and Lucifer reappeared after some time. Rin was exhausted from the ordeal of pulling someone as large as Lucifer into the shadow. He felt as though he had just run a marathon. Lucifer wordlessly picked Rin up as they moved towards the RV. He communicated into the radio, "We're good."

Aida smiled evilly and said, "Good. Then it's time for us to have a little fun over here."

The fight had already been wrapped up. The others were simply gathering the weapons on the side while Aida stared at the government representative who threatened them. He had been bound tightly by a wire that had a constant current running through it. She smiled cruelly at him as she said, "Bet you never thought you would be stuck in this situation huh? I despise people who dare to threaten me."

She paused the current on the wire to give the man a chance to speak. He continued to shake as the residual current continued to run through his system, but at least he had the ability to communicate. To her surprise, the government representative had a sarcastic look on his face. He said, "You think you've escaped already?"

Hearing this, Aida had a bad feeling about the situation. She tapped her communications device, "Anyone at the RV, pick up."

There was no response. The only sound was some white noise in the background.

"Lucifer, Rin, where are you?"

Also no response.
