197 Ambushed

Artemis, who looked over her shoulder, also read this information. "I suspect they all came to look for their families," he said quietly. A lot of people who got caught unprepared by this outbreak and were separated from their families in the process.

Aida nodded. "There's not much we can do for them at this point. If we see them, we will help them out. If not, they're on their own."

Artemis opened his mouth before closing it. He understood that Aida was not responsible for the lives of everyone on the base. His personal relationship with most others on the base wasn't great, but he still empathized with their struggles.

Aida already stopped paying attention to Artemis at this point and began thinking about her companions. At this point, 24 hours had passed and there was still no notification from Lucifer or Ace. Aida was beginning to get concerned about the wellbeing of her companions.

Tapping her finger on the table, she continued to consider their options. Then with a sigh, she came to a decision. "I will need to break back into the base and make sure the people caught aren't my companions. You can choose to stay here and live life as an ordinary citizen or follow me. I won't force you either way."

Artemis rolled his eyes as he laid back on the couch, "Please woman, I already made my decision long ago. Stop acting like you don't already know."

Aida smirked at his attitude, it was amusing, refreshing and somewhat irritating. Turning towards Xiao Ai who was busy working within the laptop, she said, "Xiao Ai, we need to go rescue them, when will you be ready?" Aida also inwardly asked the working Artie.

"Mm~ Mama, brother and Xiao Ai still need one more hour to finish everything."

Aida nodded, "Okay, we will leave in one hour." That should be enough time for them to prepare. She needed to go out and obtain some weapons from the underground channels during this time before breaking back into the base.

Artemis stood up as well. "I'll come with you."

The two of them put on hats and walked out of the place, heading back into the center of the city. Before heading out, Aida added electricity to all the entrances so no one could get in easily.

Unbeknownst to the two of them, Trinity was tracking Aida through the camera feeds. While they had worn a hat and kept a low profile, he was intimately familiar with her techniques and found her in a heartbeat.

Passing the information and visuals to Enyo and her team, she grumbles in anger. "That cheating b*tch. She deserves death." Enyo was reacting quite negatively to the sight of Artemis being dragged along by Aida. She gestured for her people to close in on the two of them.

Soon the assassins that Enyo sent had reached Aida and Artemis. They quietly stalked the two and prepared for the perfect moment to strike.

As they walked by a park, Aida suddenly detected a killing intent and immediately shouted, "Duck!" As she pulled Artemis down to the ground with her.

Shocked, Artemis laid on the ground and immediately turned on his abilities to pass through items while Aida rolled to the side. Five daggers landed where Aida had been and where Artemis still was. Fortunately, Artemis had his ability on so the daggers went straight through him.

Continuing to move, Aida rolled to find cover. She saw that Artemis had his own ability to protect himself so she left him to fend for himself. Artemis sulked on the ground as he dramatically rolled on the floor complaining, "Aida~ How could you leave me here to die?"

Aida rolled her eyes as she hid behind the slide and continued to look out for the attackers. Meanwhile, Artemis finally got off the floor and quietly disappeared.

Aida also kept a low stance as she cautiously stepped out from the slide. The moment her body was in view, more daggers came flying over. She was trapped under the slide, unable to leave.

She continued to observe. At least now she knew where the perpetrators were. They had hidden themselves in a tree not far from where she was. Recognizing the daggers, her bloodlust began to radiate from her. Despite being at a distance, the attackers shuddered slightly as they felt the threat and focused all their attention on her, ignoring the other man who came with her.

Just as she was going to bite the bullet and step out, Artemis popped up and dragged the attacker into the tree. With Aida's distraction, he managed to kill the assassin by using his ability to phase through the tree. He had also phased a part of the person as well and the assassin died a gruesome death of being chopped in half.

Despite being assassins, everyone but Aida was still horrified by the scene. Taking this time, Aida dashed forward and finished off the second assassin in the tree.

The two of them hopped off the tree and Aida had a concerned look on her face. "We need to go back to the house now."

Nodding in understanding, the two of them abandoned their plans to acquire weapons and sprinted back to the house.
