6 Confidant acquired: Muffin Champione

My roommate was a bespectacled girl, with a round face and a cute pair of twin braids, she was supposed to be a Hawthorne mob character but she was still darling nonetheless. She withheld me with sparkly eyes the moment I entered and squealed.

I swear the ends of her braids raised in excitement.

"You...you are!"

I curtsied.

"It's nice to meet you, my name is Anais Letiffany. I look forward to sharing this room with you for the rest of the year."

The girl fainted.

I blinked.

I know Anais has an angelic aura but not enough to warrant this sort of reaction.

As I helped the girl up, I couldn't help noticing her nose bleeding. I sighed.

I got stuck with a weirdo.

I would learn later after she recovered that her name was Muffin Champione.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried.

Students have seen Amelie wandering the ship, and now if they saw her at school... what if my roommate wakes at the same time to see her?

If she faints, I can just say she must have imagined it since she's prone to fainting but watching her mental sanity gradually deteriorate over time would make me feel guilty.

I couldn't help worrying about this during orientation, the new students were given a campus tour but since I remembered the layout from my memories of the game it didn't matter that I wasn't paying attention.

I almost didn't notice when I bumped shoulders with Donald. He did not glance at me but a hand brushing against my arm startled me.

"Pay attention."

"Oh-ohh!"

"And over here is the Grand Courtyard of May Le Toilette," Our guide explained.

The group stared at the fountain which was a toilet filled with flowers, water sprayed out of them into the fountain well.

"The Late Master was known for his strange tastes but looking at it, it's quite interesting no?"

"I heard the Late Master used to use this place as his emergency potty grounds since it'd take too long to walk to the other side of the estate to pee." Muffin whispered.

My mouth couldn't help dropping at this new source of information.

"Is that true?!"

"Ah-hem." The guide had heard us. His expression was odd. "Yes...it was true. Not just him, the male servants were also allowed to pee over here to fertilize the Orache flowers."

"Orache flowers?" I muttered. Why did that sound familiar?

The guide gestured towards the field of what looked like zinnias.

"Orache flowers although belonging to the island are completely harmless. They emit a barrier at night."

A student raised her hand. She was a tall girl with auburn hair and dark brown eyes.

"What did he need a barrier for? And why at night? Isn't the school campus already encircled by a protective barrier?"

The guide smiled mysteriously.

"That's a good question. Unfortunately, not even I can provide an answer. However, it's a tradition that this area is used so gentlemen, you know, feel free to carry on the Late Master's wishes." The guide suddenly sped up as he walked away. "So moving on..."

Flowers that put up a barrier huh? But if they do that... why not plant them around the school?

If they're packed densely in one area like this it is weird, it's more like a blockade.

Or perhaps is there something in the center of this field?

No matter how I thought about it, it seemed like something was being sealed or living here. Seeing that it required male essence was it a succubus or dryad of some sort? Just lurking here? The endless possibilities were disturbing.

As we walked further away, I mentally highlighted this area in my mind. It might not be urgent now but I should investigate it later... I'm currently still too weak.

Once the orientation had ended I headed straight for the office to request a room transfer.

Upon hearing the news, Muffin Champion was devastated.

"D-do you perhaps not like me?" She asked.

"It's not that... I was just worried that my being around you would be detrimental to your health. You fainted when you first saw me after all. I also used to be quite sickly and sensitive to the energies of other people when I was young, so I know."

"Oh, even Lady Letiffany suffered from the mana constriction as well?" Muffin's eyes were sparkling as she asked.

I made a wild guess but it seems like it was really the case.

"May I ask how you overcame your illness?"

Muffin's face became pale.

"Ah, well, you probably don't know but I come from the Champion family."

"Yes? Wait, THE Champions?!"

They were a family of knights, descendants of the aborigines of Clepeo, the land west of Briarlore Kingdom. Her skin was so pale and her arms and legs weren't that muscular, I never would have made the connection.

"I'm an illegitimate daughter," Clepeo explained upon seeing my shock.

"Oh..."

She eyed me for a bit longer with sorrowful eyes.

"And?" I ask. She seemed to be waiting for something. I couldn't tell if it was a pause for dramatic effect or not.

"Eh?"

"How did the Champion family approach your mana constriction?"

"Ah, that... well... Training."

"Hm?"

"Father said, that so long as I train the body to keep up with my pool of mana, there shouldn't be a problem. It's been working but sometimes. I still get light headed when I meet people with large mana pools."

"Ah, I see." When I was young, Mother had prohibited Amelie, Clifton and Father from visiting me after I fainted once only after spitting out blood when all three entered my room at once. I thought Mom was being a bit too overprotective but that really was the case!

"Still, it's been a while since I fainted, Lady Letiffany's mana pool must be quite large."

"Is it?" I wondered aloud. Not much information was known about the Anais Letiffany in the game other than that she had got along with everyone, was one of the four celebrated heroes due to the Cruise ship attack.

"Eh?"

"Oh, I wouldn't know. Up till now, I've mostly been bedridden so I'm not sure what I'm currently capable of. But if, Lady Champion would be willing to teach me her ways then..."

Muffin froze for a second. It was like someone paused the screen. Did I just break her?

"But of course! I'd be more than willing to!"

Not only did she seem to know a lot of information about the Hawthorne Campus, but she also seems like a reliable teacher as well. I look forward to our future interactions, Lady Muffin Champione.
