35 Field Assignment 6

The teachers watching the field test started to discuss heavily about the situation Jerod and his team were in. They had seen Bart's team take out scent bags to attract magical beasts and had assumed that they were trying to make a last ditch effort to get some resource points before teleporting out of the test. Once they handed all the bags to one person and teleported out they knew something was wrong.

As the students teleported into the courtyard they were examined by the healers first and then teleported to an office to be questioned about what was going on. Unfortunately, the events of Bart collecting the scent bags and running towards Jerod's team followed by him throwing the scent bags into Jerod's shelter were too quick for them to get any information from the students that had just returned. After collecting Bart into an office for questioning immediately after he teleported in the teachers watched with baited breath as Jerod and his team clashed with the magical beasts.

.....

After Bart teleported out Jerod decided to get a better understanding of what he was up against before deciding what his next course of action was.

With this Jerod felt that if he was alone he would likely not be able to handle all of them at the same time. Luckily, most of his team was still there and they had set up some defensive measures to limit the attacking angles. He turned and ran into the shelter to regroup with the team and directed them on where to build walls to create a narrow passage to slow down the magical beasts and to keep it down to only one attacking at a time.

He stated that none of them seemed as strong as the wolf from the night before and that he had a plan on how to get rid of them. He also told them to have their teleportation rune handy at all times just in case one of the magical beasts broke through their defense.

As prepared as they could be in the short amount of time it took for the magical beasts to charge towards their shelter the team watched the first one charge down the narrow corridor they had created with earth magic. Luckily Wendy and June both were able to attract earth magicles, so they were able to work together to build the corridor.

The first magic beast to enter the corridor was the Crazed Deer. It was one of the first beasts to exit the forest and one of the fastest. It looked similar to a regular deer, only a bit larger than most. It also had what looked like runic symbols on its hooves. As it charged down the corridor it lowered its head to try to impale the humans at the end.

Jerod cast Frozen Land down the corridor to reduce the speed of the on coming magical beasts. After the Crazed Deer entered it was followed by the three Giant Lizards. The Wildcat was circling outside wary of the defense that was set up. While it was attracted by the scent bag it was high enough level to partially resist the effects that it had. This allowed it to keep a bit of a clearer mind compared to its compatriots.

Seeing the approaching magical beasts Wendy couldn't take it anymore and used her teleportation runestone to get out of there. This left only Bear, Rich, June, and Jerod in the shelter. Jerod looked at the remaining three teammates while he prepared his next spell.

"If you are too afraid to stick around that is fine, I have a spell I want to test out on these magical beasts and if it is successful it should deal a heavy blow to them. You don't have to stay but if you do I will give you a warning when I am unable to hold them off any longer. I just need a bit longer for this spell to be ready."

Nodding to Jerod, Bear cast the only spell he was proficient with, Wind Blast. Wind Blast typically is used as a defensive spell to cause arrows and other projectiles to be blown off course by a strong gust of wind. When using it against a person, if they are caught off guard, it can even knock them over. Mixed with the ice on the ground from Frozen Land, it was surprisingly effective in slowing the magical beasts charge. Bear cast it two more times before he was low on his mana.

Rich cast Fireball at the deer trying to do some damage. He didn't want to melt the ice so he threw the spells high hoping to hit it in its head. Of the three fireballs he threw, one hit the deer, and the other two missed but luckily hit the Giant Lizard that was right behind it.

As his team was doing their best to delay the magic beasts in the ice laden corridor, Jerod gathered water magicles. He then took out the fire magicles to turn them into ice magicles. Instead of fixing them into a spell matrix he had them spread out in preparation for his next step for this spell. Next he gathered wind magicles and had them swirl around the ice magicles causing them to collide with each other. After letting them collide for a period of time Jerod combined the ice magicles with the wind magicles and formed a spell matrix.

Finally, Jerod let the team know his spell was ready and they backed away from the corridor to give Jerod a straight shot. Using the knowledge from earth, he was able to replicate a force of nature that scared man and magician alike. By causing small slivers of ice to collide with each other he was able to generate the ionization he needed for the spell. With the earth walls to the side and the ice underfoot acting as a great conductor Jerod released his spell using the Wind Blade spell matrix and the new magicles.

"LIGHTNING STIKE!"

With a peel of thunder and a blinding flash of light, lightning was unleashed down the corridor striking all four magical beasts in its way.

(Lightning Strike caused 115 damage to Crazed Deer! Critical Strike! Crazed Deer has been inflicted with Paralysis!)

(Lightning Strike caused 100 damage to Giant Lizard! Critical Strike!)

(Giant Lizard has been defeated! Overkill!)

(Lightning Strike caused 120 damage to Giant Lizard! Critical Strike!)

(Giant Lizard has been defeated! Overkill!)

(Lightning Strike caused 75 damage to Giant Lizard!)

(Giant Lizard has been defeated!)

After seeing the aftermath of Lightning Strike Jerod finished off the Crazed deer with an Earth Spike to its soft underbelly since it couldn't move while paralyzed.

(Earth Spike caused 60 damage to Crazed Deer! Critical Strike!)

(Crazed Deer has been defeated!)

'Phew, the increased critical chance due to them standing on ice helped tremendously. Unfortunately we won't be able to really cast this spell without cover from others unless it is a surprise attack. Trying to cause the positive and negative charges to build up takes a lot of time.'

'Yeah but it sure was awesome! I am afraid you didn't warn your teammates to close their eyes and plug their ears though. I am sure they are suffering a bit.'

Jerod turned in surprise at that and noticed Bear had blood trickling out of his ears and his face was scrunched up. June, quick to react had already healed her own ears and was treating Rich. With a sheepish look on his face Jerod went over to Bear and cast a Light Heal to recover his damaged ear drums.

With that he stepped back and scratched his cheek while the rest of the team stared at him in bewilderment.

"Sorry about that, I forgot to warn you that the spell was loud and bright."

The others continued to stare at him blankly while trying to process what just happened.

So too did the teachers who were watching his team prepared to jump in and assist if needed. Not one of the teachers who had witnessed the Lightning Strike spell could make a noise. The power of lightning was akin to the power of a god. A natural occurrence in nature with the destructive power that rivaled tier 2 and tier 3 spells. And this power was just shot forth as an attack by an apprentice mage.
