7 Gunshots

Jian Yu was in a good mood.

He knew he shouldn't be in a good mood for too long. He needed to stay focused on his job. But he was just too happy today, he felt giddy and excited. He couldn't restrain the corner of his mouth from curling up.

Jian Yu was still in a good mood.

However, there was a bad feeling peeking in every corner. Was it because he was too happy today that he felt guilty for neglecting his job? But he had never felt this happy before.

Zeke Roderick turned out to be an awesome player, a challenging one even. Jian Yu had never lost as many games as this before, not that he wasn't a bad player. Hey, he always won against his adoptive father every time they played. Zeke Roderick was just an exceptional player.

However, there was something about Zeke Roderick that kept bothering him. Why did Zeke Roderick keep asking him about Beta?

He asked about his life, how was it, living as a Beta, was it any different from an Omega? Was he more like an Alpha or Omega? He asked him about his heat, he even used the term "estrus", who the hell used that term nowadays?! Asked him how did he handle his heat, did he do it alone or was he accompanied by someone?

Fuck, That's a sensitive topic! You didn't just ask that to anyone, especially those who went through them!

Jian Yu merely kept quiet and continued the game when he was bombarded with such questions.

Well, forget about those, he needed to ask Zeke Roderick to play with him again. He never lost that many times and it hurted his pride. He had to beat him next time.

So, back to the topic.

Jian Yu was in an extremely good mood. He couldn't keep the smile off his face. He felt more than saw the frown sent his way from Lady Clement when he opened the door of a sleek black limousine for her to enter.

Granted, his intuition never failed him. He knew something bad was going to happen whenever he was in a good mood.

Before he could close the door, a bullet zipped through, hitting the inner side of the limousine door, close to where Lady Clement's foot was and she let out a startled scream.

Jian Yu had been in this line of field long enough to know a gunshot when he heard one. From the loudness, he could estimate the shooting was less than five hundred metres away.

He grabbed Lady Clement's shoulder and shoved her inside, his hand went for the back of her neck and made her ducked.

"Stay inside! Cover your head!" He shouted before closing the door.

Another bullet clipped through Jian Yu's bicep when he tried to evade the bullet aiming to lodge itself in his chest. The burst of pain in his arm was enough to make him go wide-eyed and jumpstart the flow of adrenaline in his veins.

He ducked under the limousine and reached the gun in a holster he had strapped across his shoulder and back, hidden under the butler suit he wore.

The assassin was quite bold, attacking right in front of the college gate. The students were frantically running and screaming with gunfire and swearing as background music.

Jian Yu trailed his gun and aimed at where he estimated the shooter was. He shot it multiple times as if to scare the shooter off.

When he was sure the shooter was gone, he rushed and clambered into the driver seat. His heart beated in his chest, pounding, banging, trying to get out. He felt as though his blood were on fire. His limbs were moving on their own, from putting his gun back in its holster to starting the engine. He was disconnected from everything but the ever present sound of his drumming heart.

"Are you alright?"

Startled, he looked through the mirror of the limousine and saw the worried look on Lady Clement's face.

He realized that he must have lost his cool in front of his client. His heart was still pounding in his chest and he tried to ignore it and slowed down his breathing. Sweats dripped down the side of his face and his silver hair clung to his cheeks.

When he finally calmed down, he turned his head to look over his shoulder at Lady Clement.

"We are getting out of here," He informed Lady Clement. "You are not hurt, are you? Did you get hit? Are you alright?"

This time, he was the one bombarding someone with questions.

The worried look she had immediately vanished like it never happened before. Lady Clement merely raised one of her sleek eyebrows and scoffed, crossing her arms together and leaned against the seat.

"Worry about yourself more, beta. You are the one bleeding all over my car."
