5 Curiosity

"Hey, do you guys have any idea who that was?"

The group of three he had been eating with all turned to look at him before following his gaze to the empty corner. Not seeing anyone, they looked back at him, confused.

"Who are you talking about, Zee?" Mika asked with a mouth full of food. He was munching on his burger, filling his mouth continuously without swallowing. He was resembling a chipmunk right now.

"Don't talk with your mouth full," Dong-Hyun chastised, pushing his thick and oversized glasses with his middle finger. Mika merely stuck out his tongue at him.

Zeke rolled his eyes and chuckled. These people made his day.

"Someone was sitting in the library most of the evening. Didn't you see him?"

"No. What did he look like?"

"And if you wanted to know and he was there all evening, as you claim, then why didn't you simply go ask him?" Dong-Hyun added.

"For once, he has a point, " Mika mused, earning himself an annoyed look from the brunette.

"So what did he look like?" Mika interjected hurriedly.

Zeke shrugged.

"From what I recalled, he had interesting hair color. Light gray, silver maybe? Looks quite neat and taken care of, his bangs are a bit longer on the left side," he gestured with his hands to illustrate his point.

"Obsidian eyes if I am not wrong... kinda pale too..." he paused when he noticed the stare he got from his friends.

"My, my, aren't you quite detailed?" Mika smirked. "Found an eye candy?"

Dong-Hyun's eyes lit up in recognition. "Oh! That must be Huang! He is your soon-to-be spouse bodyguard."

"Huang?"

"Huang Jian Yu," Dong-Hyun stressed out as if he was talking to a bunch of toddlers. "He is hired as Ms. Zero bodyguard a few weeks back. They had signed him up in all her classes."

"Why would she need a bodyguard? Ain't that too extreme?" Mika asked.

"Who knows, heard there were a few assassination attempts on her," Dong-Hyum shrugged his shoulders.

Zeke quietly paid attention to everything Dong-Hyun said and frowned, but Mika just had to brag into his mind.

"Aww Zee, you should have acted as a knight in shining armor and save the damsel in distress, you missed the opportunity," Mika teased, wiggling his eyebrows. "Or... Do you prefer silver head more?"

Zeke smirked at him. "And if I am?"

Without letting Mika continue, he turned toward Dong-Hyun, completely ignoring the dumbfound look Mika was supporting, his jaw had slackened too.

"So, what was he like?"

"Who? Jian Yu?"

"You didn't call him by his surname, are you familiar with him?" Zeke frowned.

"I worked with him once, during a project," Dong-Hyun turned back to his food, snapping his chopsticks together and made clicking noises.

"Then?" Zeke urged, asking him to continue. Mika was busy wiping his tears and sniffling loudly, muttering something about 'first love and love in first sight' bullshits.

"Since we are in the same course, he's in a few of my classes. He always gets full scores, but he doesn't talk much and... he is always reading," Dong-Hyun continued.

"Was he the one who helped you in your midterms and gotten you a full mark?" Mika suddenly jumped in and interjected, sniffles and tissues forgotten.

"Yes, he is the one."

"Wow! Then he must be very skilled!"

"YA! What's that supposed to mean? Are you saying I am incompetent?"

"Calm down, your dialect is coming out," Zeke snickered.

"You said it yourself, so you must have thought of yourself as an incompetent then?" Mika taunted.

"Why you little--"

Dong-Hyun rubbed his fingers across his forehead, trying to ease the headache from appearing, sighing heavily.

"I don't know much about him, but he's pretty quiet, either it is due to his occupation or he just doesn't like people much," Dong-Hyun explained.

Zeke hummed but didn't say a word.

"If you are really dying to know more in detail, why not try talking to him?" Dong-Hyun asked. "And maybe woo him while doing that."

Dong-Hyun smirked. "Hitting two birds with one stone."

Zeke raised one of his slick eyebrows and looked at Dong-Hyun. He wasn't entirely sure about this situation, should he try pursuing his soon-to-be spouse's bodyguard?

Sure, Huang Jian Yu looked amazing. Tall but not so tall, the perfect height to cuddle and hug. He had the face of an angel, silver hair, and long eyelashes, he appeared just like he had just descended from heaven.

And his eyes.

They shone like onyx stones that had been polished multiple times under those silver lashes. Last but not least, he smelt particularly good, delicious even, for a beta.

It reminded him of the forest, rusty and wooden feeling. The coldness promptly made him imagine the dew that dropped from leaves during the dawn.

The more he thought about it, the more unsure he was. Maybe he would start keeping an eye out for Huang Jian Yu, observing him when he could.

But what had started as curiosity had grown into real interest.

XXX

The day Jian Yu locked eyes with Zeke Roderick, he was dead set on finding out about the other. He needed to investigate if this man was the right one for his client. Did he know about those assassination attempts? Was he involved? Everyone had been put in his suspect lists.

Yet...

After researching for a few nights, he had wasted his free relaxing midnight moments, where he and his balcony should be having intimate times, it turned out that this guy, who named himself Zeke Roderick, was just a typical boring Alpha.

He was the smart type, armed with eidetic memory or what people commonly called photographic memory. He was majoring in Law, hoping to be a prosecutor one day.

That aside, a straight A's student. Decent attitude, unlike those typical conglomerate family Alphas who always fought, he was quite calm. He even acted as a peacemaker for some. Omegas flocked around him like birds, a few alphas, and betas too.

All in all, He was the perfect prince charming.

Nevertheless, he had never imagined being approached by the man himself.
