1 A Job

"Jian Yu!"

"I need the file!"

"Sir!"

"Good morning, sir!"

"-in office-"

"I can't find the file!"

"Sir!"

"It is under that pile of rubbish on your desk, idiot!" Sighing, Jian Yu rubbed his head to ease the headache from forming. It seemed that rubbing doesn't provide any assistance at all, he almost considered pulling his silver hair out of frustration.

Chaos. That was the situation Jian Yu was in right now. The place he was standing in right now was absolute chaos. And right in the center, there he was.

The office he currently working in was a part of police forces, specializing in bodyguards. The role of the bodyguard had always been misunderstood, instead of engaging in fights constantly, it consisted mainly on planning routes, pre-searching rooms and buildings where the client would be visiting or researching the background of people that would have contact with the client, searching vehicles, and attentively escorting the client on their day-to-day activities.

There was some combatting needed, but it all depended on which contract the client sign-on. There could be a driver bodyguard contract, a close-protection bodyguard, like protecting from an assassination attempt, or maybe a children bodyguard, usually for kidnapping cases, and a lot more.

"Sir! I need help with this report!"

"What? You haven't written anything yet?" Jian Yu snapped at one of his juniors. He wasn't even done easing one headache, yet another was showing up. His junior placed his right hand at the back of his neck and shyly rubbed them.

"Umm... I don't really know what to write?" He smiled sheepishly. This time, Jian Yu literally pulled his hair out of frustration.

He knew he was reliable, but everyone needed to stop being so dependent on him. He was going to look like a wrinkly old man, regardless of his age. Guess he should be glad, right? That's the only thing he was good at, as a beta.

Having the lowest possibility to carry an heir or giving one, he got the only job a beta could ever wish for, a bodyguard. Without being really affected by the pheromones produced by either Omega or Alpha, heats that rarely came, he could do this job perfectly without risking his client. A perfect occupation.

His train of thoughts was abruptly cut off when someone tapped his shoulder. Jian Yu turned around, narrowing his obsidian eyes and preparing to glare with all his might, only to face his subordinate, his one, and only reliable subordinate, Rei, an Omega.

Slightly shorter than Jian Yu, but unlike most Omega should be, Rei supported quite a manly look. Light brown hair held up with some hair gel with a few strands escaping made him look even more fierce. But those large emerald eyes of his made him lose all that image immediately.

"Sir? Sir! Huang Jian Y-!"

Realizing he had been staring too long, Jian Yu coughed into his hand to hide his embarrassment. "What do you need?"

"Inspector said he needs you in the office now. Said got a job only you can do," Rei pouted.

Chuckling, Jian Yu ruffled Rei's hair, messing the properly styled hair, ignoring Rei's squawk of protest about disordering his precious hair. "Maybe I could bring you along again this time, hm?"

"Really?!" Rei's emerald ones showed against Jian Yu's obsidian, beaming so brightly. See, just like a kitten.

"The choice's not made by me though," Jian Yu waved a hand at Rei while making his way towards the office. Straightening his tie and suit to look more presentable as he was always professional anytime and anywhere, Jian Yu knocked on the door. A muffled "come in" was heard and he let himself in. Closing the door quietly, Jian Yu stood stiffly in the center of the office, waiting for further instruction.

The inspector, Han In Sik, sat gruffly behind his desk that was completely filled with paperworks. Han In Sik was a man in his late forties, the adoptive father of Huang Jian Yu. The moment he saw Jian Yu in his office, he gestured Jian Yu forward.

"The house of Zero requested a beta to guard their daughter, their only heir. There had been sightings of snipers aiming for the heir. Furthermore, they just caught a maid poisoning the prepared breakfast," The inspector informed, standing up briefly to hand Jian Yu an envelope before sitting back down.

Jian Yu pulled out a file from the envelope and scanned through the data in the file. A picture of a young woman in her mid-twenties, which must be the heir Jian Yu guess, was placed on top of the paper.

Dark curly hair, framing her face, the look of arrogance was distinct in there. Scanning through the pages, his eyes bulged a bit. The heir was an Alpha- Female Alpha. He should have expected it from the way she looked, too beautiful and dominant.

"When will I start?" Jian Yu inquired, slipping the file back in the envelope, Jian Yu handed it back to the inspector.

"As soon as possible," Han In Sik ordered. Bowing a bit, Jian Yu turned and reached for the door.

"And be careful, I don't want you coming back losing any of your limbs."

"When have I ever come back losing one?" Snorting, Jian Yu turned to face the inspector, his adoptive father. But the worried look on the inspector's face made him shut up.

"You worry too much, old man."

"Be a kid once in a while and let this old man pamper you."

"You've done enough for me. Worry about yourself more or you're gonna grow wrinkly and hideous."

As soon as Jian Yu said that, he rushed to the door and slammed it shut. A loud thud hit the door he was currently leaning on. Had he been a second slower, his head was gonna be smashed by the lamp the inspector was holding.

The corner of his lips turned upwards. It's nice knowing there was someone worrying about his well being. The inspector had picked him up when he was abandoned by his father for being a beta.

As a kid, he had loathed himself being born a beta. No one cared for a beta. His father had abused his mom for having a beta, he had wanted an alpha. A good for nothing species that couldn't provide anything to society, he said.

The inspector had been really patient to teach him, patched him up piece by piece, and taught him that his resolution was wrong. And look at him now, a grown young man, with everyone depending on him, he had proved himself wrong.

Jian Yu walked back into his office with a fond smile on his face for the rest of the day. He even ignored Rei's voice calling out to him.
