6 Professions

After their initial shock, both Sasha and Sister Tully calmed down with smiles on their faces. Gathering herself and arranging the papers, Sasha Leirever looked at Aser with an expectant smile.

"Aser, now that we've confirmed your aptitude and rate of cultivation, I want to go over the rewards that the Guild has decided to give you as well as your Guild School arrangements."

"Rewards? There are rewards for getting tested?" Aser replied quizzically.

"Not for everyone, but due to your results, we can call this a reward, but its essential to your development. The only reason humanity has been able to prosper in this age is because of The Guild's and other organization's initiative in fostering talents such as you." Sasha replied, runmaking through the files and handing Aser a document.

"The Guild has decided to allow you to attend the First Son's Guild School for your 5 years of compulsory education. As long as you are agreeable to attending First Son's, we will also award you with a large scholarship of the highest specifications, our Gold-Standard Scholarship. With the scholarship, all the fees for your board, tuition and education will essentially be paid for by us. You will also get a monthly stipend of 50 Gold Notes throughout your education to do with as you wish." finished Sasha.

Listening and reading the extravagant option The Guild had decided to provide Aser, both Sister Tully and him were tongue-tied. After processing the information and going over the document, Aser contemplated before asking, "Miss Sasha, I appreciate the reward The Guild wants to give me, but can I ask if there's a catch? I just don't see it making any sense for The Guild itself to provide for me so much benefits even before I have proven myself."

Hearing Aser's inquisitive question, Sasha smiled before getting a serious face, "Yes, there are a few conditions The Guild wants to let you know beforehand. During your 5 years of compulsory education, we require you to have a complete clean history. The moment there is a notice of any unforeseen actions or any of the Guild School's rules being broken, there will be a disciplinary hearing where we will decide whether you are qualified to keep the scholarship. Other than that, we won't interfere with your schooling. Once you are finished with your compulsory education though, The Guild will provide you with an internal evaluation which you would need to pass with high ratings in order to convince us that The Guild's efforts have been worth it. If you pass your evaluation, The Guild will try to follow your Profession preference as much as possible to set you up with further education in either a Guild College or Specialization Apprenticeship. On the other hand, if you fail the evaluation, depending on the margin you failed by, The Guild will have to ask for compensation to a certain degree. What follows after that will have to be talked about at that time, but do know that we do not want to take advantage or harm you in any sort of way. The Guild has spent centuries nurturing numerous talents and we do it for humanity's survival in this world."

After receiving her reply, Aser once again began contemplating. Regardless of what it takes, since he has the ability to receive such an award, he was hesitant on accepting it only from one party.

[Aser, it is best for you to receive the scholarship from The Guild. From my readings of the Essence History, The Guild has set up multiple scholarships for gifted individuals, and these are the standard terms. I believe that you and I can prove to them that their investment has been worth it. They are also the most trustworthy and well acknowledged organization in today's society, so they won't do anything that would prove fatal to them in the future, such as a scorned genius thrown to the side.]

Listening to Ashes's logic, Aser realized he was being naive again. Of course, The Guild is so huge, what would they gain by tricking a 7 year old child? And he shouldn't be too greedy either, thinking of making The Guild fight for him with other parties trying to fish benefits. In this situation, it is much more simple to accept the scholarship and let The Guild take care of him so that he can focus on improving himself.

Putting on a solemn face, Aser said, "I understand Sister Sasha. I accept The Guild's Scholarship and nomination for enrollment in the First Son's Guild School!"

As Sasha heard Aser's reply, she smiled and gave him the scholarship and enrollment packet.

"I've filled up everything for you already, I just need your Crystal signature on the packet and we'll confirm your enrollment and scholarship."

Taking the file from her, Aser looked it over once more to make sure that there were no issues, and concluded by pressing his newly received Crystal ring on to the designated spots. A Crystal signature is unique to each individual, and as such almost impossible to forge. Confirming Aser's signature, Sasha took the files and handed him a copy of his enrollment card as well as a Crystal card to pay for his expenses at school.

"Just show the enrollment card when you go to the First Son's Guild School and pay for everything you need at the school with The Guild's scholarship crystal card. The card will also have a balance of 50 Gold Notes that you can withdraw at any Central Las Bank in the Southern Seas. Oh right, Aser, I have to ask, have you thought about what type of Profession path you would like to advance on?"

"I'm not sure Sister Sasha. I don't really know much about Professions, but I've always wanted to explore the world and fight demonic beasts", Aser replied excitedly, back to his 7 year old child-like self.

Seeing the child's excited face, Sasha starts advising him on what type of Professions there are.

"There are a lot of opportunities for Professions in Gigantis, and they are determined when you advance your rank. You will need to think really hard about which exact profession is best for you, but let me give you an overview of the types."

"There are 5 types of Professions available in general, namely the "Warrior", "Social", "Knowledge", Crafter" and "Hybrid" types. Warriors are generally the Professions of Soldiers, Warriors, Defenders, Mercenaries etc. as an example, focusing on battling and being on the war fronts. Socials include Artists, Musicians, Politicians, Administration and so on, this line focusing on societal roles. Crafters are generally Alchemists, Refiners, Crystal Specialists and Artificers, along with many other branches, mainly concerned with advancing humanity's technologies. Knowledge Professions including Researchers, Explorers, Investigators etc., mainly focusing on gathering information to assist other professions as well as contributing to humanity's growth. Finally, Hybrids are as you might have guessed, a mix of two or more profession paths."

"The Guild believes you are most suitable for the Knowledge path at the moment, but its still too early. Just keep in mind that whichever path you want to go on has requirements, and the earlier you start, the better it will be for you in the long run."

Finishing the long explanation, Sasha sat down and drank some water, waiting for Aser to process all the information.

"Thank you Sister Sasha! I'll definitely think on it and figure out what suits me the best!"

"Good, that's what I hope for. Regardless though, I think it's getting late, so why don't you head home for now. Your first school year will start on September 1st, but you can start boarding at the Guild School starting August. That means you'll only have one month left in the orphanage. I'm sure you have a lot to think about and take care of, so I won't keep you." Sasha finished, standing up and coming towards them.

"Thank you Sister Sasha, like I said, I definitely need to think about this. I really love it that The Guild has decided to support me, I really really appreciate it." Aser replied with a silly grin, before getting back into contemplation.

Throughout the meeting, Sister Tully simply listened as she believed that Aser was capable enough to decide his own future. Seeing his decisions, Tully herself was relieved to know that he is still the sensible Aser that she had seen grow up. A bit sad and also happy, she got up and gave Sasha a hug, thanking her and taking the contemplative Aser back home to the quaint little orphanage in Southern Shelfield City.
