7 First fight together

"-y, you okay?"

"Yeah... How long I've been out?" I still felt dizzy.

"About a minute... So it works?"

"It does."

I slowly stood up. Dizziness almost completely went away, only exhaustion was left.

"I wanna try something too. Can you give me your finger?" Said Leon

"Sure."

Leon grabbed my hand and concentrated. I felt a very small change in my strength.

"Huff Huff. It works." He was exhausted, even if the change was almost unnoticeable.

In the future, he would also be able to play a support role it seemed.

"I think that's enough for today." We needed to wake up early.

"Huff. I agree." Leon went to his room watching at the floor, deep in thought.

Before going to my room I went to the bathroom, I smelled really bad. Luckily I managed to find towels in the house. I wasn't sure if it would be smart to expose my injury to the water so I didn't, I regretted not ever reading about medicine. I just washed my lower body and hair while upper with a wet towel. The gross smell of stacked dried up sweat was finally gone.

I took bandages from my backpack and removed the ones I had. Thankfully it wasn't infected. Did Leon clean it for me? How deep was I sleeping to not wake up from the pain? After a few tries and some pain, I managed to put them on correctly. As I was about to reach for another towel, that was dry, my vision was blinded by complete darkness.

"Leon?"

No voice came from the other side. Probably wasn't him. With the light from my phone, I dried and clothed myself, with clothes from the owner of the house. Opening the bathroom door, carefully, I made my way to the room. Not glimpse of light could be seen in the whole house.

"Hey, Luke!" I heard Leon from where our rooms were, they were next to each other.

As I made a turn light blinded me. It was Leon, as he realized it was me he pointed at he turned his phone to the floor.

"Seems like power ran out." I said

"I already checked through the window. There's no electricity in the whole street."

"Well, we expected this to happen." I answered. It was true, there was bound to be a disappearance of electricity with all the stuff going on outside.

"Let's just sleep, this will just make it harder if we don't make it to the factory before the night." I advised. Our new destination for tomorrow was a factory, it was similar to the first one.

"Alright. Goodnight." He agreed.

"Goodnight."

I made sure to lock the door, I wouldn't be making the same mistake again. Now sitting on a bed I looked at the top right side of my phone. No signal.

'Can I not even talk to them?... Mom, Dad, Noah, Emma wait for me. I will come back.' I put my phone on the table and went to sleep. Rather than crying now it would be better to wake up earlier.

Ray of light poked my eye. It was morning. I made my way to the bathroom. After which I went to the living room. Leon was already there.

"Good morning. Here." He handed me one of the cans. He waited for me to eat together.

"Good morning. Thanks." I took it and sat on the sofa.

We chatted for a few minutes. One of the topics was on zombies.

Wouldn't humanity be fine? There were much fewer zombies compared to humans, since in the beginning, only those that died in accidents became ones. Many were also handicapped and couldn't walk. It's true that many were killed by them, considering the surprise of the event, and became zombies after, but it still shouldn't be too much of a problem considering shelters were already made.

It was time to go.

There was already a group waiting for us at the front. Jumping over a wall a few meters left to them we dashed forward. We couldn't even see if there were any Runners. It was time to see if Leon could fight.

First to make contact was me, destroying the brain of one of them. I readied my knife to stab the other. While I was mid-motion its head was cut off by Leon's sharp katana. I was completely lost looking at this.

Quickly bringing myself back together. Now with a knife in my left hand and the spear in the right, I went forward. Leon already took care of one more while I killed the other, only one was left. Leon was already next to it.

"Wait! Don't kill it!"

As Leon heard my words instead of going for the brain he changed his trajectory for the lower body. Managing to cut off one of its legs. As the zombie lost its balance it fell down.

Trying to get up I stabbed it into the back to stop it. While I was holding it down with my spear and legs I kneeled down. Extending my arm to its shoulder,

'It works!' It felt like when I tried to use it on a desk. They were really dead. Probably anything that doesn't have a pulse will be recognized as dead, no matter if it had a brain.

However, even if it did work it was still useless in combat, it's too undeveloped. Done with my research I finished it off.

Going for the same target is a waste of time, energy and can even bring you in an unfavorable position. Our teamwork wasn't even near perfect but it was at least good. I knew if we keep fighting together, with the time, it will get better.

"Hey!" From behind us we heard a female voice. As we turned our heads we could see a few people jogging to us.

"What do you need?" Said Leon when they were close enough.

"What's with an attitude. We just wanna help." Women that looked in her mid-twenties said while smiling and showing her hands in the air jokingly. She was eyeing Leon's sword greedily.

"We don't need any help." Leon said coldly.

'He probably had a bad experience with people like I did... Now that I think about it, why do I trust Leon so much? Well, I wouldn't really say that much. It's a truth that I always saw him as the only guy in the class I would maybe be friends with, but I'm still too trusting. Didn't you learn anything from that scumbag?' While I was thinking the women closed in on me.

"Hey, what do you think? Do you want my help?" Ignoring Leon she grabbed my arm, tightly putting it in between her chest, whispering in my ear seductively. I'm not gonna lie I was at a loss for a bit.

"Let go of my friend. Bitch." Luckily there was someone to help me get out of my stupid teenage thoughts, well I would turn her down anyway. Also, I was a bit surprised at the word friend.

"Kid! You crossed the line!" Some white knight shouted from the group as he walked up to the front. He was easily over 2 meters tall.

"Huh? Gonna do something about it?" I was a bit surprised at Leon, I didn't know he had such an aggressive side.

Massive guy started running towards Leon. I knew extent of Leon's ability, but this guy didn't look like a joke either. Even if Leon could take care of that guy they have the advantage in numbers, if a fight was to break out we would definitely lose. But, didn't I have a perfect solution just next to me?

"Oy, big guy. Turn around and leave." As a guy saw me his eyes became angrier than before. But I wasn't scared, they were doing something they shouldn't, time until I see my family longer.

"Kid! I will ki-!" He fierce shout was stopped.

"Idiot! Turn around!" I tightened my knife onto her neck as he shouted, making her scream back. I wasn't completely sure if I was ready to take her life, but at least I was confident I could fake it.

"All of you." I said to the others in the group.

As everyone left my sight I took my knife down. The woman started to run towards a direction where everyone left to, opposite of ours.

"Well, that's a fun way to start a day." Said Leon jokingly. Again, Leon's chilled back attitude grabbed me by surprise.

"*Sight* Really fun."

We continued our journey forward. We already took care of a few groups. There were visible changes compared to the days before, now, the average number per group was six instead of four.

"Let's rest after finishing this one." I could see a new group.

"I'm getting kinda tired not gonna lie."

Two Runners left the group and ran to us. We killed them without much problem. Others were now in our range. They were packed closely together.

I stabbed the brain of one of them. Something unusual happened. One from the side grabbed my spear before I could retrieve it.

The smell of burnt plastic came into my nostrils, unfortunately, I knew what this meant. I didn't try to attack it with the knife since its head was already flying.

Leon took care of him and the last one.
