Charlotte Russo, a student who was thinking of dropping collage after her miserable life. She wanted to make a change and prove that she can make it work. Alone! No mum, no brother, no no one. One day, she walked the night as always and saw someone standing by the bridge. Ready to jump. She stopped them and brought them home. Help him, but then things getting complicated. She regretted bringing him home.
The warmth from the heat pad inside Charlotte's pocket relieved the tension she got from the cold night. It was 7 degree, but she was fine with that. She then opened a packet of Monster Munch that she just bought from the gas station next to her. She munched the snacks, fully ignoring spam messages from her mum. She did not want to argue with her anymore. Not when she always ended up wrong even when she had a great stand.
Charlotte was not trying to avoid her foster mum's topic about her idea of dropping collage. She just needs some breaks from that. She did not even get a chance to explain about it. Charlotte glanced her watch. It was already midnight. She opened her steps and walked home. She turned off her phone as soon as she got to her small apartment. After drank half of a water bottle, she pulled off her clothes and covered herself under the comforter like a cocoon.
Next thing she knew is, it was already 6.55 am. Her night was the same as before, bland, and meaningless. She turned on her phone and all the messages and missed calls bang in on her screen. She was still tired despite she just woke up. The sky was still dark with just little lights emitted from the sun that barely even there.
She got up, took a quick shower, and got ready for another stupid day. Before she left the house, she listened to the voicemails.
/Charlotte! Answer my messages! You cannot leave me hanging like that/
/Hey! What were you thinking, Charlotte? Why are you so ungrateful? Answer my messages!/
/Stop being such a coward, Charlotte! Don't you know how worried am I? What is wrong with you?/
Charlotte took a deep breath. 'She never understands, don't she?'
/...…./
Weird. For few seconds, the voicemail was silent.
/That's it. If you are still ignoring me this morning, guess what, do not ever, ever, dare to speak to me again. I do not understand why you want to drop out. Why can't you just be like your brother? You never make my life easier. Taking you was a mistake/
[I didn't said I already drop.. chill mum. I was thinking about it]
Charlotte messages her mum. She was so done with her exaggerating mum, and she do not want to feel bad hanging her once again. She adds.
[You ever consider letting me go for real? Don't want to be in the way since I was a mistake]
[I am very sorry for coming into your life. But guess who the dumb one thinking taking me was a good idea?]
She did not even care how rude she sounds. This was a good idea to run from that fucked up family. She is already 22, she lives alone, why bother staying with walking hell? She finally got up, took her Loki stamped bag, and went straight to the nearest Starbucks. Her family may be a little fucked up, but she still managed to work and have her own pocket money.
"Hi, Charlie! Good morning. How can I help you today?" Devon the cashier greeted her. Charlotte put a big smile on her face.
"Hi, Devon. Good morning. Can I just have a frappuccino?"
After taking her drinks, Charlotte went to her safe place. The library. She sipped finish her drink. Afterwards, she headed to her table, far from others, and people only went there for some history books. She opened her laptop but then she stopped. Charlotte's mind was back to her problems. She was still thinking either she should drop or just stay.
June and her bitches will never leave Charlotte alone. They kept bullying her with all the assignments since they were in the same classes. Those professors never believed her. June has always been the favorite and forever will be hold dearly. Even though Charlotte has the proves, she will never win. That did not change the fact that June is the principal's only daughter.
June was the princess. She was the favorite. She was the head. She was that one rich and beautiful girl. Charlotte did not want to make a big fuss about her, she ended up not suing the college. She will step out of the problem and give no shit.
However, she still had no idea what to do if she drops out. Stripper? No! That is a bit too much for her. She did not think she will do fine if she is a stripper. Not even she knew how much a stripper could make her life better. What else? Painting? It was not that easy to live with such small operation. Those painting cannot pay the bills. Her current work as a freelance programmer did not pay much.
A freelance programmer uses a lot of time but not much money. She did not like programming that much anymore in the first place. She tried to think of her other talents to use. She knows how to play piano.
'Eh, not interested to that for money. What else?'
She does have one hobby. She held it close and she precious that hobby. The problem was she was not that committed to do that for few years and it might will eat a lot of time to produce such little money.
'I love writing'
Charlotte stared her laptop. Maybe she can write in the same time paint?
'I mean, my painting talents are not that bad. I can make maybe 30 pounds each? Or is that too much? Is that above average?'
Yeah, she was talented for painting, but she was interested in writings that she had no talents for. Charlotte can still make it works though. In addition, she can go to McDonalds and work as a part-timer there. Her money she kept since middle school was enough to pay the bills and rent while she is getting used with her new jobs.
'Yeah, this would work. How hard would it be? PewDiePie dropped to become a part-timer too, look at him now. Billionaire. Why can't I do it?' Charlotte smiled. She wanted to make it works.
Maybe this was it. She will start it new. She will think about her mum later. Hoping that she would let Charlotte go. Her mum held a very dark memories between her and Charlotte. Charlotte was still a child, so she did not fight back. She stayed silent and never really talked with people throughout her childhood. Her mum being that way when she looked very nice really taught Charlotte not to trust anyone with her valuable heart.
