6 Chapter 6 What now?

My head pounding I try to open my eyes, only to see blurs. I wasn't worried because my nose told me I was safe.

" Hey, Benny?" I called into the dark.

"You're up! Thank god that's a nasty bump on your head. Are you feeling okay?" Benny's voice called from the hall.

" I am feeling okay. A little sore, and I had this weird dream." I responded. My sight slowly clearing, I tried to look around. As soon as I moved my head black spots swam across my vision.

"Hey I got some medicine for you just stay still and relax." As he talked, I could hear him moving things and getting stuff down around me.

He started rubbing a horrible smelling paste on my face that I recognized as an old leash trick. As soon as he was done rubbing it in he helped me sit up and had me drink some broth.

Slowly the world became clear again. I saw a look in Benny's eyes that I had never seen before. The look held so much emotion that it was hard to look. No person should ever be so bare yet he was fully dressed. I saw worry over if I was okay. A burning love that I didn't know why I had never seen it there before. Hope for a future I knew could never happen. Anger at himself for never telling me. And a sadness so deep I was drowning in it. I knew I shouldn't look but I couldn't look away.

"Are you okay May? What's going through that head of yours?" Benny inquired. Finally able to look around I notice that the sun is just starting to rise.

"I can't. I just can't." I replied with a heart in my throat. Tears start building at the edges of my eyes. I let them fall because with Benny I have never had to hide my emotions.

Benny having heard the change in my voice started to pay closer attention. He watched a tear fall and looked with shock straight into my eyes. I don't know if I will ever know what he saw in my eyes but the look on his face still haunts me.
