Micah squinted, as if trying to see through new eyes. "Michelle? Dakota?" 

"Yes, we're here." Michelle started toward him, but Dakota held her back. If he was now a vampire and new, then he would be ravenous with thirst. 

"How are you feeling?" Michelle asked, tears filling her eyes. 

"Hungry." Micah grabbed his throat. "Thirsty."

Dakota took a step forward. "Micah, what happened to you?"
