Dakota and I were swaying to the music on the dancefloor, enjoying having just been pledged, when Crystal stood and looked toward the door, her eyes wide with shock. 

"What are you doing here?" she asked. When I followed her gaze, Cathy was standing in the doorway.

"I was just about to ask you the same thing." Cathy smirked, her eyes glowing red. 

Dad rushed over to us. "Dakota, get Jess out of here."

"Not on your life," I replied. "If you think for one minute that I'm leaving you to fend for yourself against who knows what, then you've got another thing coming." Then I announced to my pack, "Granby Pack, prepare yourselves!"

"Aye!" they all said at once, rising to their feet, ready for what was to come.

Dad grabbed my shoulders, looking into my eyes. "Jess! As you can see, I'm not alone. Go!"
