"That said," Dad said, turning down another road, headed to the lake, "I'm just glad that you're not at home alone so much," he replied. "Also, with everything going on during the full moon, I'm glad you have Dakota to protect you."

I nodded understanding. "Thanks, Dad."

Then he looked over at me and raised an eyebrow. "So, there's nothing going on, right?"

"Dad!" I yelled, ready to climb under a rock. "No! Nothing's going on. We want to wait until we're married."

Dad nodded. "Okay. Just be careful—"

"Dad!" I yelled. "Let's change the subject... please. So, how's work?"

He shrugged. "It's been fine." He let out a deep breath and his smile disappeared. I immediately regretted having brought it up. "The department is having me investigate the murders that's been going on." Then he looked into my eyes. "Do you know how hard it is to investigate something that you already know the answer to?"

I nodded. "I can only imagine."
