210 Intruder

"Let's go home," Dad said after everything died down. Between the Pledging Ceremony and the attack, we were exhausted.

"Dad, now that Cathy's been caught, I'm going to go back to sleeping in my own room again," I said as we headed out. After not sleeping in my own bed for the past few nights, I missed my own bed... and I missed Dakota, too.

Dad nodded. "Just make sure to keep the windows locked." He raised an eyebrow expectantly. "Dakota, you're still welcome to take one of the spare rooms downstairs, if you like."

Dakota nodded, opening the passenger door of his truck for me. "Thanks. I might keep it to stay there when I need to, if you don't mind. It'll be more protection for Jess, too."

Dad smiled. "You're always welcome." Then he pulled me in for a hug and kissed the top of my head. "I'll see you at home." Obviously, Dad knew that Dakota and I wanted a little time alone.
