101 A Blast from the Past

All throughout English class, I sat on the edge of my seat waiting for Dakota to show, but he never did. As the class wore on, I played the conversation over and again in my head. Why couldn't I just say that I wanted to pledge myself to him? I made a silent vow, a promise to myself, that when I saw him again, I was going to tell him. I'd pledge myself to him for all eternity, if the alternative was never seeing him again. I would give him my life because without him, I didn't have a life anyway.

As soon as the bell rang for lunch, I bolted out of the room and headed straight for the cafeteria, hoping that Dakota was there and that he had just skipped class. When I got there, Michelle was waiting in line, holding my place.

"Hey, girl," Michelle said, but I looked past her, trying desperately to see Dakota. "Jessica, what's wrong?"
