7 The Sorting Hat

As the students step off the train, they were greeted by a monster of a man, "Firs' years, this way", the half-giant says with a heavy accent.

The higher years take a different route leaving the first-years to follow Hagrid to the water, waiting for them are around a dozen boats.

"Four people per boat", he says while waving for them to take their seats, hearing a caw, he looks up with several students.

On a branch above them sits a rather large crow, ignoring it as a normal thing they start piling onto the boats.

As they get on their way, they all gasp as the beauty of Hogwarts lit up in the night.

Reaching the top of the staircase, the children huff and heave as they catch their breaths, after having to walk up all those steps.

Again, they all take notice of the crow sitting on the stair banister.

The Hogwarts doors open to reveal a woman in green robes and a stern face, "My name is Minerva McGonagall, I'm the deputy headmaster here at Hogwarts, follow me in a straight line"

Walking inside the majestic castle, the new students come face to face with ghosts that represent the four houses.

Leading the line, McGonagall is surprised as a crow lands on her shoulder.

Standing next to a stool with an old weathered hat on it, she gets everyone's attention, "Welcome to Hogwarts, when I call out your names, you will come up and sit on the stool, I will place the hat on your head and you will be put into one of the four houses you see before you, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin"

Calling out name after name, each student is given a round of applause.

McGonagall pauses for a second, "Malakai Malfoy Lestrange Black"

Whispers spread throughout through the hall, the students at the back of the room stand on their seats to get a better view.

The crow flies off of her shoulder and taking a slow soar around the hall.

Flying towards the stool, the crow grows and changes until it completely transforms into a boy with pitch-black hair and wild blue eyes.

He looks up at Minerva, "I believe you called my name", he says with a smirk.

The silence that filled the room is palpable, all eyes were on him.

Looking behind him, he sees many of the teachers looking at him with wide eyes, and Dumbledore's eyes filled with twinkling stars,

Taking the talking hat from the deputy headmaster's hands, he places it on his head.

"Hmm, special one aren't you, strong, Inquisitive, and cunning, you fit three of the four houses"

"You've been through a lot, haven't you", the hat starts to whisper, "I can't make up my mind about you, boy"

"Slytherin is a place you'll find many allies, Gryffindor will no doubt be filled with people that hold disdain for you but overcoming that challenge would make you stronger, and Ravenclaw would let you take full advantage of your brilliant mind, they have a library in their room that's bigger than the Hogwarts library itself"

"Where would you like to go?", the hat says with genuine curiosity.

A devilish and almost maniacal spreads over Malakai's face, 'Hufflepuff'

"HAHAHA!", the loud croaking laugh from the hat surprises everyone in the room, "I like you kid, fighting against the norms of society and not giving a damn who stands against you... very well"

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

Taking the hat off of his head and placing it on the stool, he strolls over to the table of his house, 'Now, the fun begins'

With an enchanting smile and polite words, he introduces himself to his new classmates.

"Hi guys", Looking around, he sees the entirety of the table either looking at him like he's an abnormality or ignoring him.

'So much for the house of loyalty', he thinks with a chuckle.

The day passed rather quickly after that, no one was willing to talk to him and he wasn't much of a conversationalist, so he ate at the feast before being taken to the Hufflepuff Common Room

It was a bit strange, while the other common rooms are in towers with beautiful views, Hufflepuffs common room is located in the basement of Hogwarts past the kitchen.

The secret to getting into the room was a little strange but he instantly memorized it, out of a selection of barrels, you need to tap the correct one in the rhythm of Helga Hufflepuff, after doing this, the lid will swing open allowing the students to crawl through to the common room itself.

After being told about the bedrooms for the boys and girls, they are allowed to explore the "coziest room in Hogwarts"

Kai doesn't immediately explore, instead, he walks over to a prefect that he's been wanting to chat with for a while.

Interrupting her conversation, he taps the prefect on the shoulder, "Hi, we haven't met but we're cousins, so I thought I should introduce myself"

Nymphadora whirls around at his words, her face showing a mixture of confusion and awkwardness, "my mother was disowned, so we aren't related", she says before walking off.

Grabbing her hand, he pulls her to stop, "please, I'd like your help", it hurt his pride to beg for help but he wanted Tonks on his side.

She looks at him again and cocks an eyebrow, "what can I possibly help you with? aren't you smarter than everyone else", Annoyance and sarcasm drips from her words.

Rather than answering her, he changes his facial features in quick succession, his hair, skin, and eyes, change color rapidly.

Her irritation and annoyance is changed to happiness and delight, "you're like me"

Before they sit and talk he stops her, "please don't judge me on Walburga's actions, I wasn't even born when your mother was disowned"

She nods at his words, "sorry about you I acted, my mother means a lot to me, and seeing you brought up all my disdain for the family of Black"

He waves her off, "it's quite alright, how about we get to know each other as you give me a tour?"

She nods with a bright smile, grabbing his hand, she leads him around the common room.
