2 Tales of typos

"Seriously Grenade, what was that?"

"Maybe a cave-in?"

"No, it was getting louder the longer we waited."

"Well maybe it was the final boss?"

"Grenade this isn't a video game, what do you mean final boss?"

"I mean the mother."

The mother was a myth formed by the first adventurers to enter the dungeon, its said that she's a god-like entity that creates the monsters we fight, but no one has ever proved the existence of such a creature.

"Don't tell me you actually believe in the mother."

"Branch, you can tame the monsters by singing to them, which is more unbelievable?"

"First of all, I can't, and second of all, even if I could, I think a god who creates monsters that try to kill humans is a bit more unbelievable."

She eventually accepted that I'm not easily convinced (she seems to forget this all the time) and gave up. She said good night and headed off to her room. Seeing no reason to stay up, I headed to my room as well, and as soon as I drifted off to sleep, an image of snakes and a melody burst through my head like a bullet. I tried to keep hold on the thoughts but they escaped me, giving up, I fell asleep.

"Morning sleepyhead!"

"Huh? Oh, yeah, morning Grenade."

She was once again sitting on the edge of my bed, like she did every morning, but she seemed a bit closer than usual.

"Ready to train those vocal chords?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Singing! Your gonna sing to the monsters and tame them!"

"Yeah, sure I am. And I'm gonna suddenly win the lottery and buy a better weapon."

"Oh come on, you don't need a weapon anyway, you can just befriend all those nasties."

She sounded so sure and optimistic that I couldn't bring myself to turn her down, we got into our gear, grabbed our weapons, and headed back to the dungeon.

"Think we'll hear that rumbling again?"

"Listen Grenade, I am bolting if I hear any rumbling."

"Your no fun."

"Rumbling means a big monster! And with a blade the size of my finger, I don't think we are ready for that."

"Well if you would just sing then you would be fine."

"Listen, if somehow we get into a situation where we can't escape and I need to speak my last words, I'll sing. Alright?"

"Don't be so pessimistic, we won't die."

With a few minutes of walking, we were in the dungeon, and after just a few hours of hunting (and killing on rare occasion) we had enough shards to buy a nice meal, I never mentioned that monsters drop shards when killed did I? These shards of who knows what can be used for fuel and even small ones are worth quite a bit. Naturally I did the stupid thing and spent my half on a nice weapon that could actually do a good amount of damage, while Grenade spent hers on snacks and an exit spell.

"Hey, everyone knows about the mother, but you know something else?"

"What?"

"It's said that she is a evil god, but that there is also a good god, this good god created the typos to combat the monsters."

"Then why are some typos, like mine, negative?"

"Well no ones perfect."

"You are."

"Hmm?"

"Oh nothing, so you wanna head home?"

"Yeah, I've had enough adventuring for today."

We head home and that night, the same thoughts and sounds burst through my head again. This time more vivid, and I was able to keep hold of them, I saw a snake, I heard the sound of my own voice, but I was singing, singing a song my mother used to sing to me, and the snake was calm.
