40 Chapter 40

Night, the entire city was filled with lights and the place which shone the brightest was the Central part of the city. The entire Central part of the city was covered with city guards and a batch of soldiers of the city and every mansion were also filled with private guards of the families. This was because the entire area is filled with clans of the Golem city as well as the private mansions of clans from other cities. Currently two figures were rapidly moving towards a big mansion with Alexander insignia. These two were the Mercs who had identified Bernard's dead body. Soon they entered the Alexander Mansion after telling their code to the guards at the front gate of the mansion and made their way towards Rutherford's suite.

Knocking sounds were heard at the main door which led to Rutherford's suite. "Come in" said Rutherford in an impatient voice clearly affected by the news he had heard earlier. The two Mercs entered the suite and bowed at Rutherford before the captain of the Merc squad walked to the front and said "Young Master Bernard along with Kevin and Andrew were found dead. Their corpse were badly burnt, the only way we could identify them was due to the insignia and scars on their bodies" while placing their insignia before Rutherford.

"Fuck!!" shouted Rutherford and threw a paper weight towards the Mercs in anger and tilted his desk and threw it at the wall. "Bang!!" a huge sound was heard as the desk shattered as soon as it hit the wall. The Mercs trembled in fear as they watched Rutherford in rage and moved towards the door and huddled in the corner letting Rutherford calm down.

After two minutes of throwing a fit Rutherford finally calmed down and asked "Who were these guys. Do you have any lead on who attacked the restaurant?"

"We have only heard that it was a group of bandits and apparently they had killed all of the guests who were staying at the VIP suite and stole their belongings. They had also killed the entire city guards stationed at the Southern part of the city as well as the reinforcements who came while they were retreating" said the captain of the Merc squad.

"Conduct an investigation on this group and find me some goddamn clues on where they came from. These guys had the nerve kill one of our guys and we need to pay them back" shouted Rutherford and watched the two Mercs bowing to him and leaving the room. Rutherford did not care about the other two, he was pissed that Bernard was dead and needed to vent his anger on the group who killed him. "Fuck!!" shouted Rutherford once again and shouted "Someone come and get me some wine and women".

The Mercs standing out on the hallway were used to Rutherford's temper and said " Yes, Young Master" as they went to get some women and booze.

Meanwhile in the eastern part of the city, Just as Sean and Lucy were planning to have dinner a knocking sound was heard from the front door. Sean looked at Lucy and asked "Were you expecting someone?". Lucy shook her head while saying "Stay here and be calm, I think it must be the city enforcers. I heard that they are doing house to house search in the eastern part of the city. They should be gone after i show them our insignia".

"Don't do that. Even if we do have the insignia they would feel suspicious since we are staying at a different place from the headquarters. There is also the possibility that this might be a stolen badge. Let's let them in to search the place. I don't think there is any clue relating to the case inside the house. We can always show our insignia once they complete the search and turn empty handed" said Sean while calmly walking towards the door along with Lucy.

Lucy went towards the door accompanying Sean and opened the door. They saw a total of 4 enforcers wearing the symbol of the enforcers around their neck like a chain waiting at the doorstep. One of the men wearing the enforcer badge walked towards Lucy and said "We are the city guards and we would like to check inside your house".

"Why? Does this have something to do with the attack on the Sapphire restaurant?" asked Lucy while looking at the enforcers vigilantly. "Those are investigative details and we are not allowed to talk about that. Don't worry, this is only a regular search. So long you have nothing to hide you don't have anything to worry about" said the enforcer who spoke to Lucy and turned towards his team members and asked them to search the property. Judging by the way he took command and ordered the other three he was the team leader of this four man squad. The team members nodded their heads and entered the house and started searching for clues while the team leader turned to Lucy and asked "Who are you both?"

"I am Lucy Walker and this is my little brother Sean Walker. He is joining the Four leaves Academy this year and is currently staying with me" said Lucy with a preplanned back story while Sean just nodded his head without saying much.

"Oh, so you are students in the Four leaves Academy" said the captain of the squad and came inside the house while looking at his team members diligently searching for clues. Sean and Lucy stood at the living room while looking at the other enforcers searching throughout the house. One was looking inside the kitchen, one inside Lucy's room and one towards the back door which was at the end of the living room. The captain just waited for his team members to complete as he stood at the front door blocking the entrance to stop any possible runners.

Sean continued to observe the situation in silence while Lucy looked towards the captain and asked "Would you like to have a cup of coffee. We were in the midst of having a hot one". The captain looked at Lucy and smiled "No thank you". Lucy turned to look at Sean and signalled him using her hands which meant that there was danger and Sean had long noticed it and nodded his head stating his understanding while at the same time they heard the back door being opened with a click.

The second Lucy and Sean heard the sound of the click Lucy ran towards the captain with her sword taken out of her spacial pouch and slashed at the captain who though seemed surprised was able to easily block the slash with a grin on his face. "Who are you?" asked Lucy while taking a step back and readying herself to make her next strike.

"Why don't you take a guess. More importantly, how did you know that we were not city enforcers?" asked the captain of the fake city enforcers while the guards who were in various rooms searching were at this time pointing their crossbows at Lucy and Sean while only showing their silhouette from within the dark room.

Sean had also taken out his gun and was ready for combat and entered the blind spot of the room, out of the way of cross bow's route and pointed his gun at the captain. Lucy did not say anything and planned to attack the captain at full force to breakthrough the encirclement and escape. She did not know who they were and who had betrayed her and Carmella as no one other than Carmella, Sean and few of her trusted friends knew about her residence. Just as she was about to attack the captain with all her power, she felt a strong danger from behind her and tried her best to escape by running towards left corner of the living room. However she could not escape and felt a sharp pain in her abdomen as she hit the left wall in the living room. She held her abdomen and stood leaning her back against the wall while looking at the source of the attack and said in anger and surprise "You!! Bastard, who bought you? Why?".

The person she looked at held a gun with smoke coming from the muzzle of the gun. It was Sean as he looked coldly at Lucy and continued to point the gun at Lucy. The captain moved towards Lucy and held her chin roughly and turned her face towards him and asked "You never told me your answer. How did you know that we were not from the enforcers. We had the badge of the enforcers and I believe we even searched the house diligently to make you believe we were part of the enforcers". Lucy looked at him coldly without giving an answer and spat on his face. The captain did not expect to be spat by Lucy and could not react in time. The captain's face became red as he slapped Lucy face with anger and shouted "Bitch!! how dare you spit on me. I thought I would make your death painless. Since you asked for it, I'll show you what pain and humiliation really is". Then Captain became abnormally calm as he started looking up and down, eyeing Lucy's body and licked his lips and had a lecherous smile on his face and said "Now that I look at you, you are hot. It is such a waste to kill you without thoroughly enjoying you" said the Captain while he moved his hand towards Lucy's dress planning to tear her dress open. Lucy who saw this became pale, but could not move due to pain and blood loss. Her mind started to turn hazy as she looked at Sean with hatred while thinking 'Is this how I am going to die. Even while in death I am about to be defiled. Carmella, I am sorry, looks like I won't be able to accompany you anymore".
