Chapter 2

I had only ever used magic on a human once before. My Father had always told me I didn't have enough skin to save everyone….. Sometimes kids should really listen to their parents.

I jolted up from the small dorm bed with a bland sheet. Yawning my eyes went straight to my phone, swiftly checking if my Mother or Father had so much as texted me... Ah…. As expected.

No new messages.

Never minding the painful drop of my heart when I saw I had no new messages I got up from my bed and ran my fingers through my purple hair. My hair had been the only strange thing or rather magical thing about my body. Since birth just like my mother I had the darkest shade of purple hair, mildly curly and uncomfortably full, reaching down to my stomach.

When I was younger I used to make my Mum take me to the salon where they would brush off the extra hair almost breaching onto the crown of my forehead with a clipper. I stopped doing it when I realized it was a waste of time since it just grew back.

Walking towards the bathroom I caught my reflection in the mirror. My pale form on the mirror, and the large wounds on my shoulder blades that had begun to heal. They were morbid to look out, not filled with blood but the oppressed and blood stained flesh was winking sardonically at me from the mirror.

Never again would I use magic on a human.

I took a shower, brushed my teeth and wore the clothes I arranged on the desk earlier in the morning. I hadn't gotten a uniform yet, maybe I would ask Sin? He was the head prefect wasn't he? No, he seemed to not like me very much. I would ask Drusilla, she was the assistant head prefect.

Reaching for the room's nob the door was pushed open from the other side. On the other side was a female. She had blonde hair which she shaved into an army cut, a feminine box-shaped jaw with a slight cleft. Her pair of sky blue eyes were staring curiously at me whilst her finger removed the cigar stick from her pink lips stained with an obscene blackness.

She wasn't wearing the uniform Drusilla and Sin were wearing yesterday, no hers were different. A baggy long sleeve black crew neck shirt with patches and holes around the neck region, close to the chest, green cargo shorts, black stockings, and black sneakers with— Captain Inscribed on the white soles.

I noticed on her neck was an iron necklace of a hexagon. Then on her ears were several piercings, two barbell earrings one ear, and the other a full gold painted earring that covered the edge and shell of her ear with one lobe earring. On her left cheek was tattooed on her pasty skin— Martyr.

The hand holding onto a skateboard with several colors painted on it squeezed. "Whoa, who're you?" Her voice was extremely raspy, like someone who spent lots of time smoking.

I placed a hand on my chest to make a gesture. "Me? I'm Psyche Charming, I live in this dorm."

Her lips parted and she dropped the cigarette on the ground, crunching the stick with her foot. "Fuck, you're my new roommate? That's like so cool, everyone has been talking shit about the newcomers,"

She gave me her hand which I took, pondering her words. "Talking shit?" I parroted.

She bobbed her head. "Huh, some of the newcomer started a mess with the Crescendos." She released her hand from mine.

One of my eyebrows arched. "I'm not following." I replied, watching her move into the room, dropping the skateboard on the side of the room.

She threw her head over her shoulder as she crouched down at the bed opposite my, hand diving underneath the bed. "Wait, it was Drusilla Blackwater who welcomed you right?" She asked.

"Drusilla Blackwater and Sin Crescent."

Her hands visibly waving around underneath the bed suddenly stopped. "Seriously? Shit must've been serious then," she muttered under her breath. "But who escorted you to the dorms?"

My fingers scratched the itch in my hair. "Drusilla."

Her hands finally came out from underneath the bed, dragging a beige bag out which was covered in some dust.

"Fuck, well then things might be awkward between us."

My hand dropped from my hair and cocked my head to the side with question marks floating above my head. "Awkward? Why?"

She shrugged, her hand falling on my shoulder. "Who knows these things KiKi,"

"It's Psyche."

She jolted her lips up and then clicked her tongue. "You look more like a Kiki though."

This my roommate might be weirder than I had earlier realized. It would be difficult keeping up with her in the future.

"Well Psyche is already an abbreviation, it would be weird if you shorten a nickname." I said, hoping to deter her from abbreviating my nickname.

She removed her hand from my shoulder, only to raise it higher and ruffled my purple locks, then dropped it.

Yep, she was most definitely weird.

"Nickname, real name, these things are Vanity Kiki," She responded before, swinging the bag on her shoulder and beginning to walk away.

I blinked. What? "What? What does that even mean?"

She lazily threw her head. "I have absolutely no idea KiKi," She added with a chuckle.

Incredulity was definitely itched at every corner of my confused expression. "Then why did you say it?" The words came out more emphasized than I had wanted.

One hand held onto the edge of the door. "You really know how to make a girl confused, KiKi." She had a sympathetic expression on her face for whatever reason I couldn't understand.

Wait, what? Apparently I was the one who came off as problematic right now.

"Come on, KiKi, the Junior Prefects issue punishment out on students who aren't in the canteen by 7:00." She said, walking off.

Deep into a sea of dumbfoundedness I close the door after me.

"So KiKi have you signed up for Club Salem yet?" Her blue eyes glanced back at me.

I blinked, then shook my head. "Club Salem? What's that and why would I join that club?"

She turned back at me while she continued walking which I found to be a highly impressive skill. "You don't know Club Salem? When did you get here?"

"Yesterday."

She nodded, understanding crossing her face. "Well according to the rules you have to join a Club the first week of your arrival."

I felt like I was rolling a whirlwind of confusions and questions which made me feel oddly stupid.

"Rules?" The question was clear in my face.

Before I could register it she was unzipping her bag and pulling something out from it. It was a clean piece of paper which was even laminated.

She handed it quietly to me, and I hurriedly collected it.

IT IS US VS THEM.

I scrunched my eyebrows at the rules, not even realizing I had stopped waking until I was finished with reading the rules.

"This…. Don't you feel like some of these rules are a bit strange?" I asked.

A bit was an understatement. It was utterly weird, especially the last rule— Us Vs Them? And in case of death and injuries? Did death and injuries happen so often that they handed alarm gadgets to students.

I looked up at a pair of blue eyes which were looking back at me. "Your name is Arabelle?" I couldn't help but blurt out when it suddenly flashed in my mind.

She nodded. "Uh-huh, but most people just call me Stoner,"

I glanced down at her lips tinted with blackness. "'Cause you smoke a lot?" I couldn't help the question.

Her hand which I had only just noticed pushed against a door which opened, revealing a canteen?

"Ohoy, I knew I liked you for a reason!" She cheered at my question, entering the Canteen.

As we entered the Canteen my legs instantly became rooted to the ground hearing some chilling words.

"Perhaps I should rip out your oesophagus and feed it to your sister."

These words were spoken by someone I recognized— Sin Crescent.
