88 Nim

Summer had begun a slow transition into autumn on the Great Oak Farm. Nim could smell it on the wind as she watched the patchwork of tents sway in the warm afternoon sun.

Life had settled into a comfortable routine since she arrived back home with Gareth, Sana, and Lorna in tow. The group of four stayed within the small frame of her white-washed farmhouse, but women from the field tents were often bustling about the house, cleaning summer vegetables, and preparing meals.

There were now many hands available to lighten the load of farm work. Nim stood watching children pick apples from the trees while a steady stream of people was tending to the cows and chickens. On several occasions, she marveled that her Caroline and Callum could maintain everything, just the three of them for so long.
