54 Lucian

The vampire had tried to mend feelings between him and Caroline. He had to admit feeling slightly guilty after the girl unleashed on him back at the campfire. He simply had thought that she just didn't understand the plight of immortality, her concerns now would fade, and soon new predicaments would ravage the world as they had for centuries. This fight for her was nothing new in the annals of time, but Lucian knew that to explain it would only infuriate the witch more.

Instead, he opted to tell her tales and try to take her mind off the troubles at hand. Once conversation segued to his visions, though, the vampire could feel his frustration rising. He wanted to remind himself she was naive and that the damage done by his father was not her burden to bear.
