Caroline tipped toed her way back to the room she would be sharing with Ender after leaving Aniyoh. For a brief moment, she thought of using a spell to cover the sound of her footfalls but ultimately decided it didn't matter anyway. If one of the vampires wanted to find her, they surely would without any trouble.

Only James stood towards the top of the stairs with impassive expression and hands clasped resolutely behind his back. Caroline sighed with relief when he didn't even glance in her direction and slipped in through the door. She glanced around the room and felt slightly disappointed that Ender had not arrived back yet. It was unlikely he would return anytime soon. Undoubtedly Marciaus would have many questions about her and how she came to be with Ender.
