Love: A Memory

Still, Jon sees that she still has that courageous smile on her face as she holds onto his and Jeanette's hand, "Thank you, Jeanette."

Hearing her most profound expression of gratitude through those dried lips, Jeanette could only shake her head, saying that it was nothing, "You don't have to say that, Sam."

"No, Jeanette, if it weren't for you, those days when I was going through those hard times would have been unbearable," she says with a warm smile, "thanks for doing all of that for me. Please know that it means a lot to me all of that."

Finally, Jeanette also smiled through her tears while wiping away the tears from the corner of her eye, "You also bring a lot of joy into my life too, Sam."

At that moment, through their endearing smiles, it was like those memories between them were brought up again to their happy reflection.

Jeanette would remember walking with Samantha in the lovely afternoon as they talked about random things walking back home when they first met in middle school.

Sean, on the side, puts his arms behind Jeanette in comfort as Jeanette thinks back to those days when they were watching the movies together and joking so hard or crying together through the many scenes they watched together.

And so soon, all those years had come and gone; since they had first met each other more than ten years ago, all those unforgettable emotions sprang up in their heart as they remembered all of that.

"Jeanette, always know that you mean a lot to me," Samantha said with the deepest sincerity.

"Sam..."Jeanette touches her sobbing eyes.

Turning to see Jon looking at her with appreciative eyes, "Jon, can we go back to that place during that simple day that we always talked about."

Through the rush of the wheat field, the afternoon lazily shines down on the both of them as they smile and walk together, holding onto each other with tender affection.

The wayward path in front of them between the sizeable golden color of the wheat leads to the tree up on that hill.

She had a hard time walking up this hill now when before she found it so easy now, it was so difficult even to muster the strength to walk.

But Jon didn't give up on her as he held to her as they walked up to the top of the hill with the tree when they were here a year ago that afternoon.

Resting on the tree, she lays down her tired head as she smiles at him with faint strength and holds his hand tightly.

Seeing her smile still faintly on her face, Jon feels his heart breaks just a little more as teardrops slide down from his face.

"Jon, it is okay," she touches his cheeks warmly, "even though I'll miss you and being together, don't cry. I had a remarkable memory of us together."

She then looks out from the tree as she lays down her tired head and breathes a deep breath, "It is as beautiful as the first time we had been here."

"Samantha..."

She then turns and hugs him in the most profound embrace, "You have already done a lot for me, Jon. Since the first time I met you, I knew you weren't from this world."

He looks at her with a momentary surprise before regaining composure, "You knew?"

"When I looked into your eyes that night," her words came out slowly as she became fainter as she smiled while embracing him, "I knew you were my angel, my guardian angel. Thank you."

"Guardian angel, huh?" Jon smiles a little, hearing that reply.

Her eyes then slowly closed as she seemed like she had fallen asleep still, but Jon could feel that she had genuinely left from his side.

A teardrop runs down from the corner of his left-right eye as she could feel the heat from her hand dissipating; he could feel her hand growing colder and colder as the body becomes only a thing that used to live.

Even though the sky is still filling the ground with light, a part of him finds all of this empty of any meaning and hope like before.

'I'm ready.'

Then from the silence, that familiar voice echoes forth as though from the void, 'Are you sure? If you do this, you will lose your soul and all the memories you will ever have of her and anyone else.'

'Yes,' Jon told Death, 'Before I met her, I didn't even know there was meaning in this world. What is sacrifice if it is just my soul?"

At that moment, Jon could feel the vital energy returning to her body as the warmth in her hand came back as the minutes passed by.

Slowly her heart beats like before again as her eyes open to see him again, "Jon..."

"You woke up?"

"Am I in heaven?" She asked, looking at her surroundings with amazement, then seeing Jon smiling at her warmly and shaking his head.

Looking at her still with so much surprise in her eyes, Jon thought back to that moment on the balcony in the city penthouse, when everything was just a beginning.

There was still so much time and time for them and whatever they wanted to make of time.

"My love, do you remember how you asked me if there is a day that I want to relive again and again?" Jon asked her, holding onto her hand as his eyes looked into hers, filled with complicated emotions.

"You still remember?" She smiled and gave him a happy hug; not sure what was going on, but she enjoyed being with him again and thinking of everything they could do together.

"If I could relive a single day, again and again, I would want to relive that day when we were sitting down on this tree, that simple day," he told her and gave her a gentle kiss, "I would be happy forever and ever, again and again, just to see you smile like that."
