12 Chapter 12

"Ha~ Learn to control your emotions or they will control you. Would you like that? No? From what I have seen through your memories, you have the ability. At least you managed to pass. So now you sort yourself out."

Daniel was currently in his spiritual world as gazed at the dragon before him and he nodded after hearing what it said. "I will work harder, Brother Ice to be stronger to suit my lifelong goals,"

The sapphire blue eyes peered at Daniel and the eyes gleamed in approval. Even though the cold mist was constantly being emitted, he felt comfortable. Yes. More at ease in this type of climate.

"You know I can read your mind. Your elemental island is there for a reason, isn't it? You can visit it as you check on your body before awakening. I'm sure it will be comfortable as I am guarding your Spiritual world. You may need the silence to reflect."

The massive beast spoke reminding him of something he forgot about. Daniel looked at the dragon and saw that its eyes were closed shut and its breathing even. Memories and Death. He hated to admit it but he knew these memories would continue to plague him for some time.

His consciousness flickered towards his Mana island Looking at the tiny island filled with refreshing mist and endless ice surrounding it. Familiarity. Silence. Yes, this was necessary for him. Motioning toward it, the island responded by shimmering a pale blue before dimming.

His energy body sat on the frosty island in a comfortable quietness. The surrounding water which surrounded the island had stopped slush sloshing about.

Peace.

Tranquility.

Meditating inside the island he reached an emotional equilibrium. Well, until the next turbulent wave comes about, he needn't worry. Visibly in the outer world, Daniel's muscles turned slack and the injuries quickly mended themselves. Even though inside his body wasn't looking too pretty, it was quickly mending. The collapsed ribs had by now evaporated and a new set formed to replace them. The pierced lung had by now inflated and was healing nicely.

In the battle, his ankle had been sprained and it had swollen significantly. Now it began to deflate and return to its normal size. More improvement was needed in his body manipulation. Flexibility, stability, and strength were necessary but now he thought of nothing but his mother.

Each contour of her face, the laugh lines, her loving smile whenever his sister and he were around. The sorrow when she was sick, the helplessness when she was confined to the bed. Finally, he did the deed... Such were the memories the illusion had brought.

Stop.

Healing.

Yes, he had to think of better thoughts, and to distract himself, he opened the system interface where he saw his stats. (Changed a bit of the stats - Author)

1.Chilling Aura (Passive)

2.Protection of Ice Lvl 1 (Passive)

- Affinity to Ice +15%

- Elemental Suppression +15% (To Fire and cold-based elements only)

3. Basic Ice manipulation ( Tier 1)

- Manipulation of Ice Tier One has been increased. The user's body has been adjusted to suit this.

4. Ice Field (Pseudo Domain) {New!}

- Self-created skill that uses ice to the fullest by spreading it around you and cold mist permeates the air. The affinity to Ice is increased even further and in this field, your ice-based abilities will experience an increase. Heat-based elements will also experience a 10% decrease in efficacy.

5. Frigid Body (Passive)

- Due to your affinity to ice, your physique will be tweaked to suit this without having a backlash from using ice magic. He was at least cheered up by the new pseudo Domain which helped increase his ability to control ice to such an extent. With the build, he was going by. Health and Intelligence were the way to go as he needed both. "Going by what I know, strength is necessary for the power output but agility is also needed as I need the speed and momentum to land the damage. In terms of my need, intelligence, vitality, strength, and speed are the main guzzlers of my stat points. As such the importance of each attribute is layered respectively. Power beats technique, technique beats the speed and in most cases, speed beats power. Unless some overpowered person dominates the battlefield as such any agility-based mage would be bested." He muttered as he studied his stats.

He was miffed after peering at [Strands of Fate] skill as the system just had to do this to him. After making his temporary home in the dry and unbearably hot abode of the desert, he only understood this a small portion of the skill. The only strand he knew was the complete white and the corrupted black one.

What he had learned the white strand meant that he had no relation to the other party whatsoever. Strangers in short. The latter signified negative emotions whether that be anger, resentment, greed, and etcetera. The pure white line would be tinged with a layer of black on the tips connecting the corresponding parties.

I guess it's time to wake up. Dismissing the interface, his mind opened up as his eyes fluttered. Eye-catching azure eyes peered at the stone ceiling as could be seen by the immaculate structure washed with porcelain paint. Feeling his body, his injuries seemed to have mostly healed. Just a bit sore. Nothing more.

His back was lying on a hard wooden bed. Where is the mattress? Is that my first thought? He chuckled amused at his thoughts. Inwardly he was missing the soft, deliciously hard mattress. "Seems like I have to find my way around."

Feeling his clothes for some odd reason felt different. Ah! His clothes had been changed. Anyway, he had worn those clothes for some two years and they were worn out. Luckily he learned some sowing when his mother was around. He could roughly mend his clothes. Practical. Indeed for survival's sake. Not a hobby.

"Looks like I'll be stuck here for months. If I am in this dorm that must mean that I passed. No mattress, forced school uniform, and bloody tired what an odd mixture." He sighed and grumbled tiredly.

He looked at himself. Black polished shoes, long maroon trousers, a short sleeveless shirt, a long striped tie, and a blazer littered his lithe body. Well, it looked neat. He felt tempted to look at himself when he reverted to his true appearance. Caution. It always followed wherever he went.

"You're too suspicious of your fellows," A deep voice sounded in his mind.

"It kept me alive though." Daniel's voice echoed back.

"True." And the voice disappeared after this.

Brother Ice always spoke whenever he wanted. Most of the time he would always be the one to initiate the conversation. It was him who kept the loneliness at bay. And as such he decided to be known as Brother Ice. Authoritative as he was, he didn't mind for he could already come up with his conclusions on how the system came to him. Sometimes wondered why he was so bent on control. Control... Perhaps that was it. Whatever his suspicions were he currently didn't have any answers.

Pause.

Silence.

He found a piece of paper on the floor and he picked it up. Simple yet neat handwriting was plastered on the paper.

*You marvelously passed the test with flying colors. Such an interesting fighting style, I like that. Continue poking and you might find yourself a new fan. But seriously don't fight a human opponent like that, death threats may rain down on you. But enough with the sentiment. Welcome to Sky. Oh! Your body should be healing quite nicely or so the healer said. Good day and SURVIVE.*

Survive. That was a rule he kept for himself. Survival only for the fittest. Nothing less. At least he passed the test and he can now learn more things to better his future.
