1 chapter 1 introduction/happy birthday

Eve wakes up to hear her mother call her name. She groans and gets up from bed begrudgingly to change and start her daily morning routine which consisted of brushing her teeth, hair and going to get breakfast. Once she does that her mother says to her, "So, my little Evangeline has come of age."

Eve sips from her chai latte and says "Finally."

She asks "Can I start full-on training now? Or even better, get a mission!?"

Eve's mother replies "Soon, very soon."

Eve groans "You and Dad ALWAYS say that!"

Her mother replies "This time I mean it Eve"

Eve says sarcastically "Sure you do."

Her mother says "Now eat your breakfast, we've got a big day ahead of us."

Eve says "How so?"

Her mother replies "That's for me to know and you to find out."

Eve sighs "I hate it when you and Dad are like that, especially you."

Her mother smiles "Well, first finish your breakfast and then you'll find out," Eve says " Ugh, fine." She chows down her breakfast and then says "Ok, now, what is it?"

Her mother says "Well, come with us." Eve says "Us? Is Dad back?" Her mother nods just as Eve sees her Dad and tackle hugs him saying "Dad!"

He ruffles Eve's hair and says "Happy birthday Princess!" Eve cringes "I hate that nickname!" Her dad says "Ok then, my little warrior," Eve says "I guess that's mostly acceptable,"

Eve's dad says "Well anyway, let's go." Eve asks "Where?" He gives her a goofy smile, "We're not telling you, what I will tell you is-" her mom cuts him off and says "Shush Harold!" Harold replies "It's just minor Celia, what I was going to say is, that it's something you'll like."

Eve huffs "Fine, seeing as you're both not gonna tell me."

Her mom replies "That's right."

Eve's mom blindfolds her and Eve says "Oh come on! You and Dad won't let me see either!?"

Her Dad says "Nope, sorry sweetie."

Eve huffs "Fine."

A little while later they pull the blindfold off and Eve sees Frederick, a friend of her parents, and says, "Uncle Freddyyyy!" He laughs and says "Nice to see you again as well Evangeline!"

Eve says "What am I doing here though?"

Uncle Freddy then shifts a statues head and some Hunter weapons appear on a shelf. Eve asks "Huh? Are my parents here to get new weapons again?"

Harold says "Nope, you get to choose your first REAL Vampire Hunter weapon, my little warrior."

Eve says excitedly, "REALLY?!" The two of them nod and Celia says "Your the proper age now." Eve tackle hugs them saying, "THANK YOU!"

Harold and Celia laugh lightly and Eve asks "Is it ok for me to test each weapon first?" They all nod and Eve excitedly does so. After testing each one, she selects a Silver Crossbow that she shoots at a target in the room which she gets right in the bullseye and says excitedly "Yes!"

Uncle Freddy says "Good shot!"

She says "Thanks!"

Uncle Freddy then asks, "Where did you learn to shoot like that?"

Eve says "I've practiced in private."

Her dad says sternly, "Even after we told you not to?"

Eve gulps fearfully, but then Harold's expression softens and he exclaims, "I'm so proud of you."

Eve gives Harold a confused look and Celia says "I am too, but to clarify, we were testing you more or less."

She asks, "Testing me?"

Harold and Celia nod and Harold says, "I'll explain. It's because in our world you have to make close calls and take risks and often do things no one else will." Harold continues with, "To make it more simple, it's risky work and sometimes you have to take the initiative." Eve nods in understanding.

Harold and Celia let her get some more Vampire hunting equipment and once she has it all they drop it into her pouch.

Harold then says "There's a little something at home I wanna give you, too." Eve nods and they leave for home. Once they get home Harold leaves for a bit and returns with a cloth that is wrapping something up. He hands it to Eve and says, "Charles and Dalia, more so Charles, told us to give this to you once you had come of age."

Eve asks, "You mean....?"

Harold nods and Celia says, "Your biological Mother and Father, they were good people."

Harold says, "Now, open it, my little huntress." Eve nods, she unwraps the cloth from the object to find a beautiful dagger sheathed in a knife holster. She takes it out and says "Wow... It's beautiful..."

Harold says "It was Your Dad's."

Eve smiles "I can tell that it's well taken care of."

Harold says, "Your Dad was peculiar over his weapons, they had to be clean and well taken care of."

Celia says, "Dalia also told us to give you this," she hands Eve an amulet wrapped in a cloth.

Eve asks "What's this for?"

Celia says, "Just good looks I suppose. It's nothing more than a regular necklace."

Eve says "Well, I like it."

Celia says, "Your mother would be glad to hear it."

Eve puts the amulet on and puts the dagger she got on her waist with a holster thing.

After Eve puts the two things on she asks "Were you guys close with my biological parents?" They both nod. Celia says, "Dalia was my best friend for many years and Charles and Harold were like brothers. We were both quite upset when your parents died, but they told us to take care of you for them and so here we are. Now it feels like you are truly our daughter."

Harold says, "Indeed it does."

Celia says, "Though, we should be off." Eve asks "You are leaving already?" Celia says, "Oh, no, not out on a mission yet."

Eve says, "Then what?"

Celia says "Well for one, your father and I are going to test your combat skills, see if you're ready, and we're going out."

Eve asks "Going out where?"

Harold says "You'll find out."

Eve sighs, "Again with the not telling me thing?"

Celia says "Yup."

Eve sighs, "Not fair."

Harold says, "First, we'll test your strength, so come on." Eve nods, so they all head out to the training spot.

First, Harold and Celia set up targets and they do a few rounds of the crossbow. Eve hits the bullseye every time and so Celia says "Wow... "

Eve says "I never miss."

Harold says "You are doing well."

Celia says "I'm proud of you Evie."

Eve says "Mom, dont call me that! I've told you before I hate it."

Celia replies, "All alright fine, fine"

Eve says "Thank you."

Celia says, "Now, Eve I want you to fight me."

Eve replies "What, why?! Is that even fair!?"

Celia says "Yeah, sure why wouldn't it be?"

Eve says "uh CAUSE YOU HAVE A TON OF FIGHTING EXPERIENCE!"

Celia says "Oh, relax, you'll do just fine." Eve says "If you say so." Celia gets into position and Eve stands across from her and Celia holds a knife and Eve asks "We're using knives now?!"

Celia says "We need to know you are ready to be a Vampire Hunter is all Eve. Vampires have superhuman strength and superhuman speed Eve. If you can't even take your Father and I on, you don't stand a chance and you'll be dead within seconds."

Eve says "Ok, fine." Celia and Eve run at one another, weapons drawn, their weapons clash and Celia says "You're doing great!"

Eve says "Thanks," and they continue. The only sounds being heard are weapons clanging and snow crunching. Eventually, Eve overpowers Celia and has her cornered, pointing the dagger at Celia"s throat, but then Eve sheathes her dagger and offers Celia her hand saying "Need some help mom?"

Celia takes Eve's hand getting up and says, "You'll surpass me in no time, well I think you already have, it makes me proud to be your mother."

Eve smiles,"Thanks, mom."

Harold says,"All alright, let's go."

Celia says, "Harold, my dear, not yet." Harold says "Yes, my dearest?"

Celia says "You know how it works, it's essential we BOTH test Eve."

Harold sighs, "She's our daughter dear, I don't want to harm her, let alone fight her, she's our DAUGHTER!"

Celia says, "Ok, would you rather she be sent out unprepared and ends up slaughtered by filthy Vampires?"

Harold replies, "No, obviously not." Celia gives him 'the look' and he says "Ok, fine, Eve if it proves to be too difficult tell me and we will postpone the testing."

Eve nods and Harold says, "I'm going to test out your hand-to-hand combat skills, princess."

Eve says, annoyed, "Dad! Don't call me Princess!"

Harold says, "Ok, ok fine, fine!"

Eve says, "Would you quit stalling Dad?" Harold says, "What, I'm not stalling." Eve says "Yes, you are, come on Dad are you scared that I'm gonna kick your butt?"

Harold says "Not that, I just simply don't wanna fight my daughter."

Eve says "Daaad if you don't fight me, I'll fight you!"

Celia says "Quit stalling Harold."

Harold says,"Fine, fine!"

Harold sighs and heads towards Eve starting hand-to-hand combat. Eventually, Eve out of nowhere gains a new source of strength and speed and sends him flying against a tree. Harold coughs a bit but gets up

saying, "What was that?"

Eve says "I have NO clue! But it was pretty awesome!"

Harold says, "You did great!"

Eve says "Thanks."

Harold says "But let's get going, you're more than ready to be a Vampire Hunter."

Celia says "Indeed, let's go."

Eve nods knowing that they wouldn't tell her if she even asked.

Harold and Celia go to some restaurant with Eve where they sit down after saying their reservation. A bit later a waiter walks over and asks for their orders, so Eve orders a steak wanting that and Harold and Celia order some stuff too. The waiter returns with their orders a bit later so they all eat.

After being at the restaurant and doing a bit more testing on Eve's strength they return home. Eve heads to bed but thinks about what suddenly happened when training since out of nowhere she had gotten some kind of super strength and speed. Eventually, Eve shrugs it off and decides to go to sleep.

Eve wakes up and gets dressed after she's changed and brushed her hair. She goes into the kitchen and grabs some brunch, while munching on it Celia and Harold walk in and join Eve with hot plates of eggs and bacon for each person. Eve gobbles it down and

Celia says, "Is it just me or has your appetite increased and you are eating ALOT more meat especially?"

Eve says "I thought I was eating just as much as usual."

Harold says "No, you are eating more, but maybe you're finally growing?"

Eve scoffs, "What do you mean 'finally' growing?!"

Celia laughs, "Calm down Eve, you know your Dad likes to tease you."

Eve says "Yeah."

Harold says, "In all seriousness now, we have received word from the leader and the council that there's a mission for you."

Eve says excitedly, "REALLY?!"

Harold and Celia both nod and Eve hugs them both.

Eve then says, "Thanks so much! I won't fail you or the city!" Harold chuckles and Celia simply laughs and smiles.

Harold says, "Come on, we're supposed to take you to the main building."

Eve asks nervously, "Now?" They both nod.

Eve says, clearly nervous, "Umm ok."

Celia says, "Relax, Eve you'll be fine."

Harold asks, "What happened to our brave and fearless warrior?"

Eve replies with, "I'm not fearless."

Harold ruffles Eve's hair "Well I'm certain that you'll be fine."

They head over to the leader/council building and once they get there

Celia says, "We can't go with you."

Eve asks "Why not?"

Celia replies, "It's always been that way, so I guess it's to test you under pressure, plus often what is discussed is top secret."

Eve sighs, "Ok, fine." Eve goes in and sees a group of people with one sitting at the head of the table who looks to be the town leader.

The town leader says, "Do sit down Evangeline." She simply nods and sits down with the leader and council, who all then explain a bunch of stuff to Eve.

However eventually, the leader says, "So for your first mission we need you to track down an individual and get an important object from them. Then once the goal has been achieved we need you to 'dispose' of them, do you accept?"

Eve nods and so the chief says, "Very good, then I shall give you the details, listen carefully." Eve nods eagerly.

The Chief says, "Well it's a Vampire and he looks like this." He drops a picture in front of Eve.

Eve asks, "Who is he?"

The Chief says, "His name is Vlad and he's a Vampire explorer or something of the sort. We have enough evidence to prove that he's also behind the missing villagers. So what we need from you is to find out information from him, grab an object called the Vampire Fruit from him and once you have both intel and the fruit, kill him, that's an order."

Eve says, "Gladly." The Chief then shows her a picture of a blood-red fruit of sorts and says, "That's the Vampire Fruit, he stole it from us."

Eve asks, "What does it do?"

The Chief says, "It reverses the effects of Vampire transformation after being bitten, it's a mysterious fruit."

Eve says, "Coool!"

The Chief says, "Now, go get ready, you leave at sundown and our best hunter shall accompany you." Eve wants to complain but then holds her tongue knowing not to talk back to the Chief and that she isn't experienced in missions yet.

She leaves and finds her parents. Celia asks "How'd it go?"

Eve replies with "As good as it could, I guess."

Harold asks, "What type of mission did you get?"

Eve replies "I don't know if I'm supposed to share that."

Harold says, "We're some of those who are allowed to know Eve."

Eve says, "Well, long-story short I have to capture some stupid Vampire guy named Vlad and get something he stole back and intel and then kill him."

Harold and Celia look alarmed at the mention of the name.

Harold says angrily, "What does the Chief think he's doing?!"

Celia adds, "Is he insane?! Vlad is VERY powerful and definitely not someone you should face on your first mission!"

Celia and Harold go into the building in a huff and both say to the Chief "ARE YOU TRYING TO GET OUR DAUGHTER KILLED ON HER FIRST MISSION?!"

The Chief says, "The reports the two of you, along with many others, have shown me is that this should be easy for her."

Harold says alarmed, "PREPOSTEROUS!"

Celia says, "This is Eve's FIRST mission and you're already trying to get her killed!"

The Chief says, "You both underestimate her, she's invaluable and you both know it, besides she likes a good challenge, does she not?"

Celia says, "Yes, but Vlad is VERY powerful! And her wanting a challenge is exactly what's gonna get her killed!'

The Chief chuckles, "Don't get all bent out of shape about it. I'm sending our best Hunter out with her"

Harold asks, "You mean Flint?"

The chief replies, "Yes, with him along it's sure to go smoothly."

Celia says, "Is that gonna work? He's so young."

The Chief says, "She looks up to him doesn't she?"

Harold says, "Well, yes, but uh... He's not exactly 'friendly' per say."

The Chief says, "All will be fine."

Celia says, "But he's too young, why can't one of us go with her?"

The Chief replies, "Because the two of you are far too valuable. I need you two in case something goes wrong, or if there's a major mission needing to be carried out."

Celia and Harold sigh in defeat, however, Celia threatens, "If ANYTHING happens to our daughter, I'm going to gouge your eyes out and cut your head off!"

Harold says, "Woah there Celia dear, calm down."

Harold drags Celia out of the building before she does something she regrets.

Harold says to Celia, "Are you out of your mind?!"

Celia says, "Perhaps."

Harold says, "We both know you can't talk to the Chief like that! Even if he can be a pain!"

Celia sighs "I know."

Harold says "He could have us killed for the disrespect!"

Celia says "Well you weren't exactly being polite either!"

Harold says calmly as ever "Yes, but threatening to murder the Chief is much much worse."

Celia says "Ok, fine."

Harold says "We need to go and apologize for the disrespect shown Dear."

Celia says "Yeah."

They go back in and the Chief says "Yes?"

Celia says "I apologize for the disrespect I showed sir"

Harold says, "I too, apologize."

The Chief says "Very well, as you had a valid reason I will let it be, but if it happens again you will be punished. Now, you are dismissed."

They both nod and leave.

They head home to see Eve getting things ready and decide to help her.

Eve asks "What took you both so long to get back?" They both laugh nervously before Harold says, "We went in to hopefully change the Chief's minds."

Eve asks "You mean to display your anguish?"

Celia says "Yes..."

Harold says "Your Mother threatened to kill the Chief."

Eve says "Mom!"

Celia says, "I know, I know, I shouldn't have, but we both apologized for our actions."

Eventually, they finish getting things ready and Eve prepares to leave as soon as sundown has fallen. Eve goes to the gate of the Village and finds Flint already there.

He says, "You are late."

Eve offers her hand for a handshake and says "It's been a while huh?"

Flint simply ignores her.

Eve mutters, "What a douche."

Flint says, "You don't look like much."

Eve says, "Well looks can be deceiving, prick, and to think I even looked up to you."

Flint says "Feisty as ever."

Eve rolls her eyes and says, "What happened to you, Flint? You taught me alot of the things I know."

Flint says, "I only did what I had to."

Eve rolls her eyes, "You've changed, and not in a good way."

Flint simply says "Let's go."

Eve says, "You used to be so nice, now you're a prick."

Flint says in annoyance, "Let's go. Now." Eve nods and they leave to begin tracking Vlad.
