5 I Can See Spirit I

Ever since I was a child, I have always been someone special.

I could see something illogically that the average person's naked eyes shouldn't be able to, it's the ability to see the spirit.

Of course, I didn't know about this till I grew up.

When I was a kid, my grandma would always gently smiles at me while she was accompanying me with my nonsense.

She's a very kind grandma that I have never seen any other expression on her face other than her smile.

My mom would often look at me with a pitying gaze whenever I mentioned my grandma.

The child me back then was very innocent to a fault.

Until one day, I saw a picture of my grandma in one of the drawers of the cabinet when I opened it out of curiosity and asked my mom about it.

I have never seen grandma talking with my parents, so I thought they were purposely ignoring her.

Even when I tried attracting their attention, they would just huddle up together before tears started pouring out of my mom's eyes while my father hugged her with a solemn look on his face.

Why are they ignoring grandma?

Then the truth was revealed to the innocent child me.

The fact that the grandma I saw and played with should've already departed to the afterlife, she passed away peacefully in her sleep a few years before I was even born.

But even then, I didn't believe them.

If she already passed away, how could she play with me this entire time?

That was until one night, my grandma suddenly appeared in one of my dreams.

She wasn't smiling, but I could tell she was relieved as if something heavy pressured her shoulders the entire time had been successfully lifted.

She went down on her knee so that she could see me on the same level while her old hand was on top of my head.

She then told me how worried she was about her only daughter which results in her lingering around as a spirit in the mortal world.

She also says, after seeing me born and taking care of me, grandma was relieved, relieves that her daughter had already moved on from her passing.

It is also one of grandma's wishes to see her grandchildren.

I knew from that moment onward, my parent was telling the truth.

As to why my grandma appeared in my dream, I have an inkling that she was trying to tell me she had no part in my life anymore.

My grandma ended up telling me about my mom's childhood years throughout my entire dream.

I didn't understand most of the words she was saying, yet I quietly listened as if sensing this might be the last time I would see my grandma.

And when I woke up the next day, I no longer see a glimpse of her shadow around.

I could still see the other spirits floating midair, but no sign of my grandma anywhere.

She had already left this mortal world, and ascend to her next life.

I was crying nonstop the entire day when I realized my grandma had disappeared and would no longer be there to accompany me whenever I'm home alone.

Even though I'm already a young adult, I still missed my grandma and visited her grave from time to time.

As someone with special eyes, I'm already numb to seeing the spirit floating around, sometimes in a creepy place like alleyways, and other times appearing in a weirdly laughable spot, I'm all used to it.

Yes, it was to a point I'm no longer afraid of them.

Even if they appeared in my dream, I'd subconsciously treat them like a picture in the background.

Human is very resilient and adaptable, you know?

Even when my classmates distanced themselves from me, and began to treat me like a weirdo because I sometimes converse with a spirit publicly, I am not disturbed, to say the least.

It does hurt to be treated unfairly, but that's just how the world is.

'You get used to it,' what wise words.

"Hey, junior! Over here!" I looked up from my phone and saw a figure in the distance waving at me within a crowd of people.

Looking at how she was attracting the attention of the surrounding people, I'm starting to think that this was a bad idea.

Why did I even agree to meet up with a senpai from my Culture Research Club outside the school premises?

Her name is Hibiki, and she's in her second year.

She is certainly cute, has big boobs, and lastly, gentle and kind.

There's nothing about her to hate.

But her outgoing personality makes it harder for me to stand beside her, it just feels wrong as if I shouldn't be here.

"Mou! Why are you late? Didn't we promise to meet up at this location 15 minutes ago?" She pouted while reprimanding me for being late. With a few casual glances at my surrounding, I immediately noticed a few boys at my age occasionally glancing toward our direction, Hibiki-senpai to be exact, with a shy look on their face.

"I'm sorry. Though I already warned you that I might be late, and even possibly not coming at all in the beginning, didn't I? You were being persistent about trying to catch a ghost or something, they are not real, you know?" I muttered and sighed.

"They ARE real! Didn't you spread the news to the whole school that you can see ghosts? I learned it from a friend, so of course, I want to chec—Cough, I mean, catch real ghost together with you! Doesn't that sound exciting to you?!" So she says with beautiful smiles.

"...I spread no such news. It must be my classmates again, haiz." I shook my head before looking up, to be more precise, the shadowy figure floating in the air behind Hibiki-senpai. If she could witness what I see, I bet she wouldn't be so happy-go-lucky about it.

Seeing a ghost in one's daily life isn't fun at all.

Imagine minding your own business in a toilet, but then you suddenly looked up when you felt a sudden chill, and realized there's a shadowy figure staring straight at you with their bloodshot eyes without a word.

Or that time when you're just about to drift into the dreamland, a group of shadowy figures intrudes into your room, and all of sudden, decided to dance on the spot.

Or maybe that time when you're about to confess to your crush when the shadowy figure appeared and ruin the whole atmosphere causing your crush to ran away in fear of her life.

Does that sound interesting to you? If so, you really need to meet up with a doctor asap to check whether your head is alright.

Even when I'm already numb to their existence, that doesn't mean I'm completely fine with it.

There's a reason why normal people are unable to see them.

When people died, they should have gone to the afterlife, not lingering around in the mortal world.

Understandably, they have regrets back to when they were once alive, but they are gone now, and should their past too.

I learned that most spirits that stayed behind mostly have regrets which prolonged their stay.

Once their regrets or something akin to it has been achieved, they would move on to the afterlife just like my grandma.

But how would I have the time to put the other spirits to rest when my hands are already full with everything life had thrown at me.

That's why I had been ignoring them all like how a normal person would.

However, there are times that you simply can't do anything about it.

When Hibiki-senpai brings me to a place where it was said to be haunted, and the cause of many car accidents in the past year, I could already predict what was in store for me ahead of the road.

There are so many shadowy figures here and there, feels like I had just visited the afterlife. It was just full of them that I was having a hard time acting like a normal person.

Hibiki-senpai just thought I was tired from all the walks so she decided to take a break for my sake, I wish she didn't.

If we had left there and then, I wouldn't have experienced what was about to happen to me that will change my life forever to come.

Amidst the shadowy figures flying aimlessly around the road, I saw a figure of a living person huddling on her knees at the side of the road. I quickly went after her thinking she was unable to move due to the chill air caused by the many presences of dead spirits in the surrounding.

I shoved the shadowy figures away with my hands even though I knew it wouldn't affect them at all.

"Senpai, there's a living person here that needs our help!" I shouted as I bend my knees on the same level as the girl in front of me while eyeing around her body for the hint of any injuries. The girl's face was hidden by her long black hair so I couldn't tell what she looks like. But senpai's next words brought my mind into a stupor as chills went through my spine.

"A person? Where?"
