1 Who is Steve?

My new classmate had some supernatural powers. Whenever he was around, something peculiar used to happen. Once in a maths class, professor Duncan gave us a tremendous amount of homework. After the class, while I was going to the music room, Steve came out of nowhere and said:

"You don't have to complete your maths assignment, professor Duncan would get sick tonight and will be unable to attend school tomorrow."

"Wow! and I would become the president too," I replied. He chuckled and said: "you'll see by tomorrow." The next day I did finish my homework for obvious reasons as I thought Steve was just messing around with me, but he wasn't. As the bell rang for maths class, I was thoroughly revising my maths assignment since it was one-fifth of our total grades. But to my surprise, our English teacher Mrs Linda arrived instead of professor Duncan. At first, I thought she entered the class by mistake, so I said to her "Mrs Linda your class is after lunch, not now." To which she replied," I am aware of that Marla, it's my arrangement since Mr Duncan got sick last night and would not be able to attend the school till next week." I got goosebumps and was in disbelief that how did Steve guess it yesterday? I immediately glanced towards, Steve, he was sitting on his seat with his heads down and was playing with his curly black hairs. It seemed that he wasn't even bothered about what was going on. That's what Steve does all the time, remains alone, plays with his hair instead of kids and acts weirdly. After the class, I tried to approach Steve and asked him, how he knew that professor Duncan would get sick, but I failed as he would just smile at me and say weird things which didn't make any sense. I tried to reach him for some days but then I stopped as I deduced that Mr Duncan must have already been sick and would have already applied for leave and I was just making a fool out of myself assuming that Steve had some supernatural powers.

Though the other incident made it clear that Steve had supernatural powers. For the sports day, months after the previous incident Steve and I were paired as a team for the annual school race. It was the first time Steve and I got to talk properly. Though I did most of the talking since Steve was so shy and would barely utter a single word. When we used to practice for the race steve used to say, "Marla don't practise too much your practice will turn out to be worthless." I used to get confused about what he meant by it and why he kept on saying it a lot but his words did make sense on the sports day. On that day, both Steve and I reached school early and helped our sports teacher, Mrs Olivia, with the decoration of our school ground with banners and ribbons. As the race was about to start, suddenly Steve just left the start line and said to me" Marla just start the race I'll just bring the ice and come back." and went running inside the school. As the race began, I started running in confusion and went off the track and hit my ankle to a pole. As I was laying down on the ground off track, hurting my ankle, Steve came running towards me with a pack of ice in his hands and without saying a single word, he put the pack of ice on my injured ankle, I got shocked, did he knew I was gonna get injured? Lots of speculation about him was going on my mind. Meanwhile, Mrs Olivia and several other teachers came for my rescue and I later got admitted to the hospital and the reports showed that I broke my ankle. Finally, after resting for 43 days, the doctors gave the good news that I am now fit to go to school. On my first day of school after recovery, there was only one thing on my mind and that was to ask Steve how he knew that Mr Duncan would get sick and I would get injured. But, unfortunately, on the very day of my return to school, Steve was absent. I was sad to see him not present in the class but it was not just because I wanted to know about his mystery but also because we were in the same team and it would have been nice of him to at least ask "how I was doing?" While I was going home after school, I saw Steve standing near a small alley with his face towards the wall of a small house and his hands inside his coat pocket. "Hey Steve" I shouted and went near him. "How are you doing, Marla?" said Steve. To which I replied, "Oh! now my ankle is almost recovered and by next week I'll be able to run as fast as a cheetah."

"That's what you wanted me to say to you," he said with a grin.

"Excuse me what."

"You wanted me to attend school today because you wanted me to ask you, how you were doing."

"OMG! Steve, you're a freak, how the hell do you know everything. You are not normal, you know the outcome of everything before it occurs and now you know how I was feeling! Tell me who are you?"

"I know a lot of things, I just get the vision of several events. Maybe I am psychic." He said laughingly.

"What other things do you know?" I asked panickily

"I know that a truck coming at a full speed will hit you today at 2:45 pm."

I quickly checked my wristwatch and it was showing 2:44 pm. I got distraught, I had only one minute left, I had no idea what to do. Suddenly I saw a truck proceeding towards me at full pace and with a bang it hit me and I fell on the floor bleeding all over the place.
